not to be too cliche, but I think Dave is the Ringo of Blur (literally and metaphorically, I suppose). He doesn't play anything technically flashy, but his drum parts always perfectly fit the songs
He's not that much loose and creative but he is accurate, the precision he has is unbelievable and rarely comes out of script when performing live. Refer to the first song he plays here, it is practically a copy of the album and it is one of the few songs he actually adds a little more flavor to his drums, also when he gets progressive he does it when needed and is very rewarding like in the drum parts in caramel.
29:32 Graham is playing quite a hard riff while singing, and he makes it look like he's bored. He's a natural at this, his performance especially is amazing !
To me, 32:49 completely encapsulates Blur. Dave putting in a shift and pulling the strings hidden by his drum set, Alex wandering around the stage laying down a lovely bass line looking like he couldn’t care less, Damon being the centrepiece jumping up and down like a crazy person, and Graham shredding his guitar mimicking Damon and looking for his adoration
Graham's ability to make one guitar sound like there are 3 playing, what an underrated guitarist. He kinda stole the show here, even if Damon tried to reach to the crowd speaking German to them. His "Parkpissed" that broke Damon is golden. Too bad the crowd was there only for Duran Duran
You guys aren’t paying attention to Alex! He has some really good bass lines throughout Blur, he’s a really underrated bassist! They’re all actually really great, Graham can make one guitar sound like three and I love his backup vocals, Dave’s drums seem to always fit really well with the songs, and I really like Damon’s voice. They’re all really good, it just blends so well
I went straight to the commercial break - this whole performance is probably one of Blur's greatest - Our Euro friendly number - There's No Other Way - Danke, Danke, Danke - Tough crowd but the boys give it large
Oily water is so good I can't ever get sick of it. I feel like all hardcore Blur fans are in love with that song. If you've only listened to Parklife and the other popular one, you're missing out. (Parklife and the great escape are amazing tho) edit: holly crap I forgot about this comment XD
This is great, Blur were so good. Thanks for posting. I wonder what happened to Graham's guitar in Chemical World. Weird that it was just silent, there was no feedback or anything.
Wow! Thank you so much for uploading this pivotal Blur concert in such fabulous quality! By the way, to those of you wondering, bands performing album tracks premature to their release is not an uncommon practice; the fact they played Parklife in 1993 isn't surprising, as its demo was recorded that same year. A similar occurrence happened at their Glastonbury '98 show, where they played Trailerpark (introduced as "South Park") for their 1999 album 13.
Just to add to this a year later, according to Jason Cox who worked with Damon and Blur from 97-99, the bands normal practice was sometimes writing songs, rehearsing them and playing them live way before recording began.
Dave, smashing it like you never really hear on their studio albums. Come Together around 9 mins, for example. Love that whole early Blur, angsty, couldn't gaf energy.
Imagine assisting at one of, if not the best blur live performance and being there just for Duran Duran...THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL IN THIS ONE!!!!
Oasis made two great records and were huge, I understand that when people say that. HOWEVER, Blur's discography overall is far more impressive, varied and just hits on a deeper level (at least for me); this performance to me proves that further - Modern Life is Rubbish was a fantastic record and this setlist peppered with songs from Leisure and some previews of Parklife is perfect!
Really great to watch as well as listen to. They come out of the box swinging hard and keep the pace strong for the entire performance. Please bring back bands of this caliber. ⚡️🙏🏼🎶

Graham is utterly fantastic here. and everywhere! love his vocals. they are tight af

THERES NO ATHER WAYYYYY
at the beginning of Colin Zeal there are two guitars playing different riffs! (and the bass!)
Graham is an underrated guitarist. His playing is skillful, but not flashy
He’s fantastic. Incredibly underrated. At least here in the US.
There's way more difficult songs where the singer-guitarist does that
