Despite the optical mismatch, Kasey's video does a great job of highlighting the noticeable differences, making it educational for newcomers to photography. In conclusion, great job, Kasey.

    You can fix the Sony muted greens by just moving the white balance adjustments into green and blue, each camera is a bit different so you just have to point it at a sky and some green to see what you think is the best range.
    All sensors these days pretty much shoot the same darn colours, its just the colour profiles backed into the camera that are different from each manufacturer, but the white balance adjustment is the best way to correct the in-camera colours as much as possible, also gets rid of that yellow hue on the skin by going more green-blue on the hue adjustment.

  • @KNZ5

    One reason the Nikon is sharper is the raw format that doesn't have any noise reduction. Noise reduction soften the image. The lens doesn't make that much of a difference, perhaps it doesn't make any difference. Center sharpness between these two lenses are almost identical.

    The Nikon looks really good except for not focusing close. That's the advantage I gave to the Nikon 180-600, if you remember. Yes, crop mode works for video (not so much for photography). But if light weight is more important, the 600 wins.

    11:25 the Nikon looks so much sharper here, damn.
    That lens definitely is a lot sharper, it rivals the big 400/600 primes and almost matches the 800 PF with the 1.4 TC, but I was kind of afraid that the HD 240 is going to be crap, looks pretty decent though. They recently added the feature to cycle through area modes with one button, would be cool if they'd do the same for video codecs.

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 3 місяці тому

      I have them both, the Z 600 PF and the Z 800 PF. The Z 800 PF wide open (f6.3) is sharper than the Z 600 PF with 1.4x TC wide open (f9), and, obviously, its a whole stop faster. The Z 800 PF at f7.1 is considerably sharper vs the Z 600 PF with 1.4xTC at f9, while still being 2/3 stop faster. Even sharper still at f8, while still being 1/3 stop faster. The Z 600 PF with or without TC's get's less sharp when you stop it down. The Z 800 PF also maintains its resolving power at considerably further distances vs the Z 600 PF with or without TC's. I also find that the Z 800 PF is a little bit more contrasty and the colors tend to punch a little bit more, but that could just be my particular copies. I am not saying don't buy the Z 600 PF or to get the Z 800 PF over the Z 600 PF. Both of these lenses are exceptional. IMHO, the Z 800 PF is the very best handholdable 800mm+ lens currently available, with or without TC's, of any system. The Z 600 PF is not "almost" that.

    • @cy9nvs
      @cy9nvs 3 місяці тому

      @@KungPowEnterFist I myself got the 800 PF, and I was referring to the lab tests from photography life, which show that the 600 PF is sharper wide open and not far behind in terms of sharpness when used with the 1.4 TC.
      Of course the 800 PF still has a slight edge in sharpness and is faster, I was just trying to point out what a ridiculously sharp lens the 600 PF is.

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 3 місяці тому

      @@cy9nvs Looking beyond sharpness - and, make no mistake, the Z 800 PF is sharper than the Z 600 PF with the 1.4x TC - the Z 800 PF overall just produces better images. Being only 1/3 of a stop away from the golden focal length to aperture ratio is a huge advantage over the Z 600 PF which is 1-1/3 stop away when it comes to the 3D pop/subject isolation/magic fairy dust.

    • @bsc001

    • @KungPowEnterFist
      @KungPowEnterFist 3 місяці тому

      @@bsc001 If you can only buy one, the biggest reason to get the Z 600 PF over the Z 800 PF is the much smaller size and weight. It's much easier to hike with, will fit inside a standard camera bag, and will even fit in your typical hotel safe. If travel is on your mind, no brainer to go with the Z 600 PF. However, one should not ignore the F 500 PF, and the fact that you can get one in 10/10 condition with a 6 month warranty for about half the price of a Z 600 PF. They are virtually identical optically, similar VR, similar AF speed. I have noticed the F 500 PF AF does tend to get stuck on foregrounds on a Z8/Z9 a lot more than the Z 600 PF, but it is not a dealbreaker. My wife actually prefers the F 500 PF over the Z 600 PF, because its easier to track moving subjects with the wider view.

    The linear focus feature can be found in the Controls section of compatible Z series mirrorless cameras’ custom settings menu under “f9: Focus ring rotation range.”
    (f10 on Z6iii)
    By default, this option will be set to “Non-linear,” but you can choose between any of the 12 preset degrees of rotation. If “f9: Focus ring rotation range” is grayed out in your camera’s menu, your lens may not be compatible with the linear focus function or may require a firmware update.
    In Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras and lenses that support the linear focus function*, you can choose from any one of 12 possible rotation increments, from 90 degrees, for rapid movement between points, to 720 degrees, for scenes that require slower, precise focus racking.

Actually, with the original ballhead tilted on the side to make it like a wimberley monopod head, and once the lens is well balanced on it, it works very well. And suficient for my needs as a tripod or hiking sticks. But I would enjoy lighter telephoto lens of course, to be able to move more freely ! Didn’t know that the teleconverters affect stab, only knew about image quality. Will see if I try this 300 one day or if I change my system, depending on the nexts « perfect » cameras we will enjoy to hate with you ahah. Thanks for the replies, love your show 😉

      It is quite well-known that for wildlife, you will struggle to beat Nikon Tele primes. The 600 6.3 z prime will destroy the 300 with 2x Tele. Even in Nikon world, it is the same, no short prime with 2x Tele will compete against a longer prime.

    The Nikon is sharper by far, and in a nice way rather than the gross oversharpened digital way. Seems to have more 3D pop too, except maybe in low light. Even in the HD 240p side by side comparison, the Nikon has it. I forget if the Nikon is still doing raw in that mode? Or if the Nikon's HD 240 is being downsampled from 5k or 6k? Or maybe the prime is sharper? But sharper is much better when we're examining tiny details on feathers that are hard to see so clearly for so long irl.

    • @cameraconspiracies
      @cameraconspiracies  3 місяці тому +1

      HD 240p can't do raw. Not sure if it's downsampled but it looks better than A7S III.

      I have looked at it to, but a much better solution, of course much bigger cash-splash, would be the 24-120 f4 as a general travel Lense, and the 100-400 4.5-5.6 as the telephoto zoom. Significantly better than the 28-400.

      No, imho, not. It is very handy having that top display on these bodies. A lot of peeps try to keep the viewfinder and main display clutter-free, as such, it is good to have this small info display on the top. It does have all the important settings there.

    Casey, this is a bad video. You are making me want to buy a Nikon 600PF and z8 even though I have A1+200-600. Can you compare 200-600 on A1(Camera Canada will lend you one) vs 600PF or did you already sell the 200-600? I tried Sony 300 F2.8 with x2.0, its lighter than 200-600 and sharper with more contrast, does that beat the 600PF?

    T stops??? no way the T stops are equal to F stops on these 2 lenses

    • @bsc001
      @bsc001 3 місяці тому

      T-stops mostly means it is lab-tested and certified across the range for a specific lens, vs the f-stop, which is generally calculated based on lens optical and mechanical design. Hence the reason why t-stop lenses are so much more expensive vs f-stop designated lenses, that certification is hectically expensive.
      I am sure someone wiser will correct me if I am wrong, above just my layman understanding of it.

    • @godsinbox

    S-Log3 loses the 3D pop compared to Standard PP Off. You should see it side by side and you’ll be surprised.

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 3 місяці тому +2

      3D pop is a compositional feature, not a lens nor camera feature.
      You are probably thinking more about the micro contrast, which neither cameras are particularly good at since modern sensors just absolutely destroys any fine colour details.
