I agree, they rushed the ending. Mario & Peach didn't speak much in the end. I think there's also other cutscenes like when Mario & DK were inside the sea serpent, it feels like they're gonna have a heart to heart but they just don't right after it was introduced. Also, they went with the plot point that Bowser wants to marry Peach from the Nintendo Power magazine, but besides us having to assume we love her, it's not really explained why he cares this much for her.
You gotta remember, Illumination isn't USED to making movies with good writing. You can't expect them to hit it outta the park on the first movie they actually had to TRY for XD
I can pick out multiple places where they could’ve easily made it a two hour movie and smoothed out the edges in some parts of the writing (like how Mario says to Luigi that nothing can hurt them as long as they’re together but it’s said at really missable moments I would personally have Mario say it at the beginning after their first plumbing job fiasco and the Luigi could’ve said it when he saved Mario from Bowers fire breath) but at the end of the day it’s a kids’ movie. But I had a smile on my face the whole way through.
In my opinion the movie doesnt need a complicated plot. It needed to be the movie about Mario that we didnt get in 1993 and it delivered in that regard.
Even though the story was super rushed, I still really enjoyed this movie. I felt like a kid again, and honestly that's all I could ask for out of this movie. The animation was surprisingly good, the voice actors had decent performances (even chris pratt wasn't as bad as I thought he would be), and the fast pace at least makes the movie entertaining to watch. I think the studio might have cut the movie short because they we're afraid it wouldn't hold the audience's attention (keep in mind Illumination is used to making movie targeted at really young viewers). I kind of wish this movie was 2 hours long.
Luigi definitely got the short-end of the stick, but that was the only way to get Mario to want to fight Bowser. Having him risk his life going through an unknown world to save a princess he doesn't know wouldn't make sense.
I think the only reason he got the short end of the stick is because they couldnt have Peach in that role. If they had the movie just take place in the mario universe (rather than it being a "mario comes from real life Brookline" thing) then all that establishing stuff would have been smoothed over, they could have peach get kidnapped, and then it would just be mario and luigi. But then you'd be having a female in a leading role that isnt constantly the best who can "do anything" and does everything right on the first try...
Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie Me and my husband saw it the other day I totally agree with the rushed feeing of the movie it just feels to me like we went from point A to B too fast like we took awhile to even get to the mushroom kingdom and then we were out of it I expected longer also I have to ask this question the pipe explodes after bullet bill goes into it how did everyone get back to the mushroom kingdom? This fact is never addressed
Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed this movie with the references but I felt like every scene felt really predictable probably because of the trailers revealing way to much of the film even though the scene with Mario and the cheep cheep was cut even though the cheep cheep on his face was shown but the scene with peach and toad was cut even though it was shown in the trailer and seeing Mario and Luigi family were shown for a long the mystery was revealed the blue shell koopa was so well done as it’s meant to represent his independence but beside that the film was so good and would recommend to gamers especially Nintendo fans
Everyone I know, myself included, absolutely LOVED this movie from begining to end! Even those who haven't touched a controller of any kind since the SNES era.
I'm sure the next time they make Super Mario bros 2 movie they will flesh out the story make the characters more exciting and fleshed out a lot more because this is probably is test to see how people react to a Super Mario Bros movie today so next time they could make a more original story and have a lot of fun character interactions
maybe work with a different developer like Illumination, because they're not known for making deep movies with great writing. Maybe it might work without Illumination. But they're known for making kids movies mainly with the Minion's movie. Maybe Nintendo could work with Sony the way Sega worked with them on the Sonic Movies.
I really liked the movie as well. You kind of forget that Chris Pratt is voicing Mario when watching it. Overall, I do agree with the bad things. I'm looking forward to the sequel as well!!
Hear me out, I think that a starfox movie would be best for nintendo. We've seen intergalactic space exploration work great with Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. It could introduce more people to the Starfox franchise. Chris Pratt would be a great fit for a Fox type character, with Jack Black being Falco. It could be more of a hit with old school nintendo games who played the original Star Fox video games. This is just my opinion.
If the Koopalings are going to be in a sequel, I want Richie Vecseii to voice all of them (With maybe the exception of Bowser Jr.). Look up SuperMarioRichie and you’ll see.
the post-credit scene hints at Yoshi in the next movie. So maybe it'll be a yoshi's island type movie. I don't think the koopalings will be in the next movie if they move with a yoshi's island type movie.
I’m gonna admit the ending wasn’t the greatest it was definitely good I like seeing Mario and Luigi go through a level but there should have been some sort of cake or something
Probably the only thing I found bad about the movie other then I think they could’ve used the full versions of the Super Mario Bros Super Show Intro and DK Rap in the movie credits.
It's like this Mario movie has no story and it's like the same thing from the 1993 Mario the only difference is is Luigi 2023 is a damsel-in-distress like daisy as in 1993 when they were swapped and is an action and Luigi Mario 1993 was in action and Mario is just like the other one Mario the origins of Mario Bros how they went from their own world to the other world and as well as they saved Earth and another differences is president Koopa actually died in after he overthrown the king in Dinohatten and 2023 Mario movie they went to the Mushroom Kingdom that's the differences add Bowser actually shrunk in tiny sides and then he went to prison.
Good but peach's character was stupid. That's the only issue. Mary sue "girlboss" peach. Because you cant have a strong female lead have ever faced any kind of adversity ever. And of course there always needs to be some male character that takes the hit for it. In this case, luigi, being the damsel in distress. But overall I loved the movie.

Yeah I hope they fix those issues in the next one.
@ABrandonToThePast we'll see. I hope to see if and how they handle Roselina and the Galaxy stuff. Or how whatever comes next stack up against Sonic 3
The animation and graphics of the movie was amazing though
@greenbanana1001 if I wanted to watch something solely carried by animation and graphics, I'd watch Demon Slayer
I agree it was rushed in the story department.

Great video!! You should talk about the orignal Super Mario Bros movie next!
yeah the story did feel like it was quickly from one place to the next once mario got into the mushroom kingdom

Always great content on this channel.
Thanks for watching!

Such a fun experience
I'll be able to watch the movie on April 19 in the Philippines. I can't wait to watch it!
I really want to watch the movie, but I’m always working and I haven’t gotten paid yet.

Great review Brandon 👍
Thank you!

Wasn’t as good as I expected but that doesn’t mean it was bad
This movie did everything well that wasn’t story or characters
Make a video about pokémon horizons please ?
This movie to me was a fever dream

Another fine video, thank ya!
I’m gonna admit the ending wasn’t the greatest it was definitely good I like seeing Mario and Luigi go through a level but there should have been some sort of cake or something
I’m watching the movie anyway even though I know what’s gonna happen
You call Mario's reaction rushed...
I call it lamp shading.
Now I'm waiting for a Zelda movie to come out
So saying the movie was rushed.....could you say it felt like a speed run?
Cranky Kong's VA 🤢
Nah

Let’s gooooo!!!
Bowser was definitely the best part of the movie
Does this mean the Mario movie is technically an isekai?
Spoil me all you want I’ve already seen the movie twice
It was good
I loved it
it's definitely over rated. people act like mario can do no wrong.
No one wants a 3 hour mario movie bro. movie was dope.
Cry.
Good but peach's character was stupid.

I tend to ignore them... I'm sorry, try to ignore them, lol.
