I appreciate the insight. I'm getting ready to build a sleeping platform and was just looking for other people's experiences. Like you mentioned I'll be putting in drawers instead
Love having a burb for camping, I just lay the seats flat lay couple sleeping bags down for bedding and another for a comforter if it's too cold. Just got some window vent visors to let some air flow and it's great and secure, don't gotta worry about any wildlife messing with you like a ground tent
I'm the original owner of a '95 4WD Suburban with cargo doors that I'm outfitting for photo excursions. For the rear side windows, I picked up a roll of the silver reflective bubble insulation and cut it to fit the window opening with a press fit...easy to remove when necessary. I started leaving them in full time to try and tame the Texas heat.
A nice simple setup, but I agree with the drawers idea vs the lids. I was wondering what lift kit you have on your Suburban and how’s it holding up? I bought a ‘98 K1500 and I love it, ready to build her up now! Thanks for sharing and good luck all!
The lift is actually a little complicated. U have a video from a few weeks ago that covers the whole thing in detail. But its about 7" all around with a solid axle swap up front. 🤙🏻
Cool , I have 1997 K2500 suburban. Working on my platform drawer system now. (2) 8" deep rear drawer with (2) 8 " front drawer that when the 2nd row seats are folded down I can pull them out and put a the plywood top on and have almost 8 foot of sleeping platform.
Very nice. One thing I've never seen is anyone taking out the rear panels and resting the bed frame on the wheel arches. I think one side has the rear aircon and the other just space for the jack, so just remove them and ply against the wall. I can live without aircon in the back and need a wider bed cos our dog is a bed hog and its a tight squeeze with the three of us. Your thoughts?
Beautiful Burb. I own a '99 C1500 LS. Yeah i wont be hitting any crazy trails with a stock 2wd on street radials but i did a little 3" suspension spacer lift to get her at stock 4x4 height. In a few years id like to find another OBS Burb. Gonna get a 4x4 diesel 🤞 Question, have you ever seen or heard of an extended overhead consoles stretching from the front all the way back to the middle row? I believe its OEM because the ac controls are in there as are dome lights and it doesn seem tampered with. Problem is the previous owner had some kind of flip down screen/entertainment system which he removed before i purchased it. Been trying to find a similar console for knick knack pieces like compartment doors and possibly a new OEM flip down screen. Cant find an overhead console like it though. Any thoughts?
The only overhead console I've seen are the wooden ones that people have made. I suppose you could get those screens that go on the back of the front headrests. 🤙🏻
@@FortuneOffRoad sounds like that's the only logical solution besides ripping my hair out lol. Will just replace the console with one of the usual ones i find at junkyards. Thanks for the reply!
I know this is a 6th month video and things could of changed by now, check out suboverland, but that area on rear passenger side is for rear AC unit. For tint, I run 5 % Limo tint in all passenger rear windows (2nd row back).
I do deflate the tires to get a better ride. The harder the trail the further down i go. The lowest for the suburban was 13psi. I use a homemade Co2 Tank setup to air them back up. Search my channel for DIY Air Tank. 🤙🏻
Hey, I am basically wanting to build a suburban very similar to this to take my family of 6 wheeling. It will be a project over time, I am curious though why would you be "beating up the vehicle" if you went over 50? Is it the gear ratio that your using and makes the motor Rev real high? If so is there a different gear ratio that would work for both on and off road? Most of our trips would be several hundred miles on the interstate to get to our wheeling location. Thank you for any help/ advice on advance 👍
@jonahshupert1329 got it. After the straight axle swap the front suspension was really soft and needed a sway bar, which I didn't have. Also the transmission was on its way out and the steep grades were a struggle with it slipping.
Oh man! So much better. It corners better too! When it was stock I remember it feeling like I was going to roll off the road in turns. Just need slightly stiffer front springs.
@@FortuneOffRoad Good to know! Truly no reason not to go solid axle then I guess. Awesome build and looks like some good memories with the fam. I enjoy your channel/videos, keep up the good work!
Question- is your steering wheel very light? Cause since I can remember our suburban has had the steering wheel very very light. Keep up the good work!
@@FortuneOffRoad ok ok. Once again. Gives me more confidence lol. I wont be crawling rocks like this but. I will be hitting some trails. Cant wait. Ill be looking for new uploads from you as well so get out and hit some trails before the lockdown! Its coming.

LIFTED SUBURBANS RULE, I WILL NEVER EVER SELL MINE. COOL VIDEO BROSEPH!

Yeah, it's nice camping in a truck for the weather shielding too!

Trying to get inspiration from your video watching from Redlands, CA
Cool man, what kind of setup are you working with?
You should check out suboverland for ideas for your bed platform. Thanks for sharing.
I've seen their stuff! Very clean. I actually picked up some ideas from them! 🤙🏻
Like you video the drawer system will be a much better way to go for you and the family. Best of luck on your project
Thanks Ralph!

I'm working on a new system right for my sleeping platform right now!
Oh man I live in the Sacramento area also! I recently picked up a 99 k2500 suburban and looking to very similar set up.
Going to tow the Samurai tomorrow and I'm sure I will wish I had the 2500!

Yeah, there is definitely some empty space in those wheel wells.
@@FortuneOffRoad yeah, just never seen it done and like the way you did what suited you.
I haven’t been there in years ! I hope to get out in my yj soon.

Yeah, Suboverland was what motivated me to build the truck, years ago! He's much better with wood though. The ti t definitely helps! 🤙🏻
Do you use tire deflators for soft roads? Also, do you carry an air compressor to refill and which kind? Thanks.
I do deflate the tires to get a better ride. The harder the trail the further down i go. The lowest for the suburban was 13psi. I use a homemade Co2 Tank setup to air them back up. Search my channel for DIY Air Tank. 🤙🏻

Ya know, I don't remember why I said that. Would you be able to give me a timestamp so I can put some context to the question? Thanks!
(0:35) right in the beginning, where you are headed to the parking lot on the backcountry roads. 👍
@jonahshupert1329 got it. After the straight axle swap the front suspension was really soft and needed a sway bar, which I didn't have. Also the transmission was on its way out and the steep grades were a struggle with it slipping.
Thanks brother, this helps a lot. Keep up the good videos 👍
I have a k2500 suburban I want to do this with what size lift is do you have
It's a bunch of different suspension parts, not an actual lift. Check out this video for more info! ua-cam.com/video/3hFykzqBPIo/v-deo.html
Since you owned the 'burb before the SAS; do you find the ride quality to be any worse than the stock IFS?
Nice truck...did u use lift or crank ur keys?
Thanks dude! We did a solid axle swap so there aren't any components of the IFS left. The lift is achieved through a swap to leaf springs also. 🤙🏻
what do you do with your spare tire?
It's in the back where the 3rd row goes
Where did you get the bumpers?.
Logans Metal! I think was actually ordered through Morris 4x4 when they had a sale. Great bumpers, smacked them many times. 🤘🏻
Question- is your steering wheel very light? Cause since I can remember our suburban has had the steering wheel very very light. Keep up the good work!
It used to be easy to turn when it was stock, then with the 37s it was hard to turn, then we got hydro assist and its easy again.
More overlanding with the burb bro ¡
Where the leak come from?
Rear hatch seal was crooked
How firm is it ? (Mattress from Amazon )
Feels like a tempur pedic. Right in the middle.
Need to address that mold issue on the rear bed platform
That's oil and Grease. Thing had been my truck bed for dump runs! 🤘🏻
What year is yours. And is it just the stock 5.7?
1997, yeah completely stock in the engine department

TO BAD YOU COULDNT FIND A SUBURBAN WITH A TURTLE TOP. THERE OUT THERE JUST REALLY HARD TO FIND.
That would've been cool too!
