Tutorial on predicting whether a salt will form an acidic, basic, or neutral solution based on the strength of the acid and base that reacted to form it.
So easy to understand and comprehend. I swear the textbooks we use in class are intentionally confusing and fail to communicate any information. This is amazingly informative and helpful
I have a question I have to ph down my tap water. My tap water comes in at 8.0. I will ph down the water with a general hydroponic solution to ph 6.5 if I let the water sit for 24 hours the ph goes back to 8.0…..what would cause the acid to ph down to leave or become inert?
Actually You can determine the strength of most Oxyacid's by this simple thumb rule. Subtract the number of O from the number of H in the formula. So : no.O - no.H ; if the answer = 0,1 its a weak acid. if the answer = 2,3 its a strong acid. Note that it is only applicable for Oxyacid's. It is not applicable for Binary acids. So you're left with memorizing the Binary acids.
check out my intro chemistry course website: www.pluchinochem.info. i've posted lots of materials for first year chemistry students. hope that helps and good luck!
