I envy your life Troy. You are living the fisherman's life I dreamed of 40 years ago. I did have a room in my home dedicated to fishing and seeing you shed I was struck by the similarities between them. Tackle everywhere, lure making and rod building supplies everywhere.I still build the occasional rod but not like then .Watching you pull up mackerel is reminiscent of fresh water perch fishing I did on Lake Erie ,one after another ,then home for cleaning then the Crisco Disco fish fry with friends.Keep the vids coming ! You are making this old fisherman Happy,
I feel jealous when I see how nice it is there !! You have so much more exciting fish species in the sea around the UK than what we have here in Norway !! Wish you a really nice summer !! Greetings from Western Norway !!
@@Trojwaterman Yes up in the North you get pretty good big fish !! Here in the Fjord where I live, you have got a lot of big Ling and Tusk !! Plus in the winter when it is really cold you can go ice fishing !! Wishing you a glorious weekend !!
What a beautiful morning on the water, some nice lobsters and nice to see how easy you catch bass and mackerel, and the conger could provide foot for at least 20 hungry man!! 😎
That was a big conger for so close in. It was always a nightmare trying to get the buggers out without losing any bits of your hand. Nice video; thanks.
oi oi troj nice to see you out and about nice couple of lobsters and not a bad haul of mackie's in the cooler box . lets hope that is a sign of things to come apart from the odd one or two i still have not had a full string out this year ''''''''yet '''''''' fingers crossed i do .. tight lines mate stay cool and have fun
Just found your channel and sub'd straight away, and your right fishing gear is shite these days, like most things built to a price, not to a standard.
always remember when I was you my dad was a member of the local aquarist society and they arranged a trip to the aquariums at Blackpool and we got to go behind the scenes and an eel about that size rose up from the depths and took the chairmans shoe off as we walked across the top of the tank 🤣🤣 lovely things ... not
Its true we used to throw back bass under 3lb now they are a good fish. Wrasse are still bait & you used to struggle with 40lb to 60lb congers in the pots and if it fell in the boat you would be sitting on the engine feet up watching buckets fly everywhere :)
Nice vid. In NZ we eat those eels its called a long fin eel not a conger eel can tell by the colouring, beautiful dried and then smoked. They spawn in NZ and migrate to Europe and come back to spawn and do that cycle relentlessly as the NZ government has been tagging eels for decades now along with every other big fish in NZ so we get a better understanding of marine life cycles for fish stock sustainability.
Congers here vary in colour from almost white to black depending on the ground they live on. They often come into the pots if the bait is to fresh. They can grow to several hundred pounds but the biggest I have seen in the pots is in the 30 to 40lb range.
Hello Troy, how deep is the water over there where you are catching the bass in tidal eddy. We have areas like these back home but the water is between 10 /20 meters deep.
Bass will go everywhere. I usually fish anything from 10 m to 40 m when I go out to sea. The bass will often be chasing whitebait or mackerel shoals. Other fish will linger around rocks reefs waiting for baitfish to be dragged through. If you have similar areas as described it should be ideal as long as there is something for them to eat.
Hi Troy, would I be correct in assuming that your lures must be pretty close to the surface while you are moving ahead with the boat. Also, how far behind the boat would you estimate the lure to be while it is being towed.
Probably around 6ft under depends how fast and what lure you use. Distance 100ft maybe it depends on how choppy and deep the water is start off long and try shorter each time then you will find the best distance for that day.
Those congers can bite i came face to face with a moray eel diving on holiday with a pal i knew bad things come out of dark holes in rocks i was about 10 feet off the rocks Bloody hell this thing stuck its head out it was huge i did hang around they like old wrecks as well
Several reasons, some of it is below the legal size limits often even when it does meet the legal limit its still not worth taking so I prefer to put it back and let it grow bigger. The conger I let go as you can catch a lot of them here, I only take them occasionally for bait usually I will pick a damaged or unhealthy looking one for that. I live by just because its legal does not mean you have to take it. This way long term it benefits the fish and the fisherman :)
Great footage thanks from New Zealand. We do a lot of lure fishing here. We use braid tied to fluorocarbon trace, no swivel. Why do you throw the crabs away?
I sometimes use braid the swivel just helps against line twist from the fixed spools or on some awkwardly hooked fish. The crabs get put back either because they are below legal size or because I only tend to take the bigger crab
Intresting Troy so did you just kill the spider and stick it in? Do u use wire or old inner tube/ rubber to secure your bait? Cheers Troy, happy fishing
I return most but occasionally use them for the pots as they last much longer than other bait. They are not not commercially fished for here so there are may out there.
Always wondered, is your fishing and boating part of your income or just pure enjoyment 👍🏻 love the vids, miss my boat. Post stroke 3 years 😞 balance shot
Aup love your lifestyle but I keep getting asked the same question constantly and that is..."fishermen just take take take and give nothing back to the sea" what's your opinion on that..cheers
We should be farming the sea everything is a balance taking only larger fish and allowing fish to grow and breed several times over before taking them. All indiscriminate methods which destroy the environment should be banned. I have no desire to take everything and ruin my fishing grounds, its of no benefit to me the fish or the many other animals that rely on the sealife. Something else to think about the destruction of the forests, using all the oil and many other things that's all take take take not just fishermen. The biggest takers of the sea are not fishermen these are company corporations and so on. The fish to them is a commodity and they have no interest in keeping a good fishery as the less fish the higher the price and once they are gone they will move onto something else probably fish farms so then its controlled.
Just a question for you. Have you ever used Beef face plates for your lobster traps? Here in the states we use to sell East cost Lobster guys Beef Face plates in combos off the kill floor. They said they were fantastic bait for catching Lobsters.
@@Trojwaterman This is the Animals hide that covers the face. We use to put them in combos and just salt them. Use to send a load once a month 42,000 pounds out to East coast . From what I understood that raw hide being so tough the lobsters couldn't pull it apart so they could use it longer as bait.
I'm surprised there isn't a market for the conger eel , no asian communities in your area ? That eel would fetch at least $10 a pound here in Los Angeles

Its very good on fuel consumption I refuel on mooring but I only need take about a 5 litre can each trip
Enjoyed that video! Where do you fish?
Off the coast of Guernsey
Love your channel but why did you not keep that eel?
I did not need it plus they are not to hard to catch

Do u use wire or old inner tube/ rubber to secure your bait?

This one yes used a wire to secure

Yesterday we went and caught bait then went out deep fished for several hours and 0 fish. Will be trying again :)

Guernsey, Channel Islands

North east Atlantic around an Island called Guernsey
