Firstly, thanks for making this video, it was really useful. Secondly, guess who fitted carbon mirrors yesterday and felt all smug about not dropping any bolts…just before I dropped the Allen Key inside the door. 🤬 It’s not like you didn’t warn me. 🤣🤣🤣

I just found your video which will be useful to me because I also plan to change the mirrors of my Exige. 👍
I just have a remark to make, the straws you put to show the angle of the screws gave me an idea: to reinstall the screws you could just put them in the beginning of the straw and push everything with the allen key to guide the screw through the hole 🤔

Those mirrors would look incredible on my '23 BRZ. I can't stand the stock GR86/BRZ mirrors, aesthetically they are way too chunky for the car (especially when you are on the inside looking out). They also create a huge blind spot when looking down and to the left (curbs, roundabouts etc.)

would be cool if you could adapt them to your application

Thanks for this video which has been very usefull for my install. However. I don't understand why the face resting on the door of the GRP stalks aren't curved like the OEM one. I have a small gap at each bolt point even after tighten them really hard... is this something you experienced too? I'm concerned about water going threw the screw holes and messing the inside of the door. And it's not really what I would call an esthetic feature.

yeah it would have been better if they put a slight curve in it. Was tempted to shape a curve in it with the belt grinder 😅

Hey awesome video where did you get your cheap borascope? I only see $40+. Also on my 05 elise it looks like the bolt hole in the door panel has the mirror blocking access to the bolt.

Prices on Amazon have been going up lately. There might be a different version that's cheaper or maybe wait for a sale. I'm not quite sure what you're describing with the bolt access. Can you upload a video?

@@BookAutowerks Here's a forum topic www.lotustalk.com/threads/help-needed-side-mirrors-removal.66638/post-1186592 . So my car with the windows down looks like the rail is in the way of accessing the bolt. Strange that some 05 cars have this issue and others don't

To get the Allen wrench you dropped, was it just a simple matter of pulling off the door card and fishing around down in the door with the magnet?

    • @BookAutowerks

      It's still in there 😆

@@BookAutowerks Hey I need help with my carbon mirror install, tried using the 4x 3mm allen screws that came with the mirrors and after pushing it through the holes, there is only 1-2 threads poking out which is making me confused. Did you reuse any oem screws from the stock mirrors ? Also these included 3mm allen screws are NOT magnetic lmao. Thank you

@@tokesa2753 We used the new bolts supplied with the mirrors. @8:38 you can see the first one there sticking out almost half an inch; maybe you don't have it pushed all the way through? Yeah the new ones aren't magnetic. Take a tiny piece of tape or something sticky, and shove in the allen head of the bolt to hold it on the wrench.

    • @tokesa2753

@@BookAutowerks I figured it out I also used the new shorter bolts but you have to screw in the bolt that goes through the door panel first. I fed the screw into the remaining top hole under the weather stripping in the beginning but literally came out the other end with 1-2 threads.
I found out the hard way that the new 3mm allen bolts weren't magnetic unfortunately. I took a piece of blue tape and secured the screw to the Allen key. Screw dropped literally into the worse spot in the door. Keep in mind that I had no spare hands to help me control the borescope.
It was totally worth it after the install because I just love the new carbon mirrors. Waiting on my 3M PPF to arrive to wrap my mirrors.
      Thanks for the tutorial

From your experience with this product firsthand, can these be mounted on Fenders as well? I see it has a ball joint, so I guess it can swivel in multiple directions? Was thinking of buying a set for another car and try to retrofit them as fender mirrors

    • @BookAutowerks
      @BookAutowerks  3 роки тому

I don't think the range of motion in the ball joint would allow the stalk to be mounted vertically. It should work anywhere you're mounting them horizontally, tho...

Guys, on the Exige S3 (at least on my 380) this looks very different. The hole is covered and the screws not/very hard accessible? Anyone done this on an S3?
