While I definitely feel Ed did an excellent job, the new guy isn't bad....we all just like Ed because he was the original mechanic. I wish them all great success.
It's not accurate to say that the stretch bolts that hold the engine together can only be used once. The Rover engineers who built and developed it used them up to 18 times. You need to check the length is as original before re-using them, if they are overlength they have been stretched out of tolerance and can't be used. I've re-used them on a high compression 220bhp 1.8 litre K series race engine with zero problems.
That lifting on the rear suspension pickup points isn't correct, and you CAN re-use the head bolts (but only the newer ones after meausuring actual length).
A follow-up, with the head re-fitted, would’ve been appropriate. As this ends we’ve got a car with black accents, a presumably properly set-up suspension, and no source of power. Personally I think black tires on black wheels are boring.
Your numbers for the suspension set up are going to be off without the engine parts installed all the weight needs to be in the car where it’s going to be including the weight of the driver.
I just watched this whole episode on the Motor Trend app. I don't get why they only expected a Max of £14k after getting fixed if they were going for around £40k on the website that he was watching in the beginning. They never seem to make enough on this show to justify their time.
