    Lucie Arnaz has done a wonderful job in keeping her parents legacy alive. Lucie was great in the movie The Jazz Singer with Neil Diamond. She also was great in The Black Dahlia and an episode in Law & Order where she plays a hard nosed owner of a cosmetic company. Also, Desi Jr. is entitled to his privacy without having to prove anything to anyone. Lucie Arnaz is handling everything just right IMO by herself. ❤️😉Great interview by Ben. Thank you 🙏🏻

    Lucie Arnaz deserves a tremendous amount of respect and accolades across multiple spectra. Not only is this woman a remarkable artist and performer in her own right, but I salute her for the way she has handled queries about her parents over the past decades with empathy, candor and tremendous sensitivity to the challenges both her mother and father faced. Not only does she come across as forthright AND fair, but she really seems to have made an earnest effort to try to learn from those accumulated experiences and apply that knowledge to her life and outlook in a positive way.

    • @lapislazuli7876
      @lapislazuli7876 2 роки тому

      She was always cool even when she was a teen playing herself in “Here’s Lucy” in the 70s. She always had a kind of “it girl” swagger and was kind of androgynous and chic in her own way. She had a real tomboy kind of spirit as a teen and was very “modern” compared to many television teen girls of the period who came across as sugary and pretty boring. Lucie Arnaz certainly inherited her mom’s Waspy can-do toughness combined with her dad’s big heart and Latin warmth. I grew up watching “Here’s Lucy” as “I Love Lucy” was before my time and they weren’t doing reruns of ILL in the 70s, not in Australia anyway. They began doing reruns of it in the 90s very late at night - if I remember rightly. And then after that we began to buy boxed sets of these classic shows on DVD. We didn’t have what Americans call “cable” back then. As much as it was panned and dumped upon later on, I loved “Here’s Lucy” regardless because it had a kind of modern “single mom” feel to it, as Lucy was a single mother on the show providing for her teen kids by working for her curmudgeonly and stingy brother-in-law “Uncle Harry” (played by the intrepid Gordon Gale). Even though she was no spring chicken by that stage, somehow Lucille Ball seemed timeless still and she still could pull off all her old gags and physical comedy well into her middle years. It’s a shame Lucie Arnaz’s career never really hit the heights of say her contemporary child star of the same era: Liza Minelli. Lucie had all the training and contacts to have really hit the big time but somehow she was never seen either really on the big or small screens in as memorable way as Liza was. It seems both little Lucie and Desi Jr were probably overwhelmed by their parents’ fame and success and sometimes the children of such icons run away from it all and prefer to dabble. In recent years Lucie’s custodianship of her family’s history and legacy has perhaps been her greatest achievement. She has become a kind of curator and historian of the I love Lucy cultural juggernaut and phenomenon and that is no small feat. She should run with it even more and set up more museums, documentaries, features and Tele-series based around her parents, the sitcom they masks iconic and all its myriad spin-offs and sequels.

    Lucille Ball was part of my mom's generation which is The Quiet Generation. They went through incredible ordeals during some of the most difficult periods of history. Yet, they never dwell on them, blow their own horns nor rest on their laurels. It's after they're gone that we realize how tough and unselfish they were. Most of the current celebrities and politicians could not hold a candle to them, neither in character nor in ethics.

    I’ll never forget Lucy telling Barbara Walters that Desi was a “loser.” Her exact words. He had it all - beautiful family, wonderful career - but because of his demons he had to throw it all away. He was compelled to self-sabotage. His addictions to sex, gambling and alcohol destroyed their family and the show.
    Lucie may appear to be candid about her parents but she avoids addressing this. It’s curious that no interviewer has ever asked Lucie to comment on her mother’s remarks to Barbara Walters.

    - Yes, Lucie had a father as well as a mother. Yes, he made it all happen. Yes Lucie is right for saying that for the last 70 years she's been trying to balance the affection between her mom and dad since her mom receives all of the love (she said it as a reply to me.) BUT, while doing that, she makes herself sound really resenting towards her mom, it's like she talks fondly of her dad (and her stepmother,) on the account of her mom, where she talks about with a nasty tone which, for someone from the outside, it sounds horrible. So Yes, it feels like Lucie has a great deal of resentment towards her mom. Watch all of the interviews I've been watching one after the other, and you see/hear what I mean.
    - Yes, Desi was the person who made it all work, but it it weren't for Lucy's persistence, non of it would have worked. So Both deserve a great deal of credit.
    **Gary gives me a sense of something fishy. Once Lucy married Gary, things turned to the worse.
    I read somewhere that Edith almost got divorce from Desi as well.
    What we're watching are indeed two extraordinary talented people, who were amazing at what they did and loved it so very much. They didn't want to go back home because they had a "Good marriage" on set.
    Can anyone tell me what's up with Lucie and Yiddish?

    • @LJ-ht4zs
      @LJ-ht4zs Рік тому

      I agree with you - Lucie Arnaz always was very positive about her father - less so with her mother. Remember Lucille Ball always gave Desi the credit - being a great creative person, great businessman etc. Saying he did it all - Lucille Ball jeopardized her career by insisting that Desi be on the show when CBS did not want him, the sponsors did not want him - both parents decided to take it on the road and the public wanted him.
      Unfortunately, Desi was an addict: sex, booze, gambling - before he married Lucy, during the marriage, and afterwards. His 2nd wife almost divorced him too. Both wives really loved him but his addictions were very serious. When Lucie Arnaz said her father worked himself to death - by in the middle of 1955 his drinking was out of control - drank when he woke up, almost drunk by lunch. When Desi sold his shares of Desilu Studios to Lucy (1962) the company was losing money - his decisions were not helping the company. When Lucy sold to Gulf and Western in 1968 she sold it for 17 million. She was the head of Desilu Studio, as well as acting and producing The Lucy Show. One assumes that she was at the studio am to pm for these 3 roles. Certainly less time with the children. (Also in 1968 made the film Yours, Mine, Ours with Henry Fonda. I think by 1960 when they divorced he was 43 - he looked so much older cause of his drinking. Lasted 3 more years producing the Lucy Show and Head of Desilu for 2years, however he asked Lucy to do that show to increase revenue for the company. I do feel these two helped each other in any way they could and fortunately they both married people who were good to them and to their children - and who were able to accept that Lucy and Desi would always be connected (Desi sent Lucy flowers on their anniversary at least for 15 years after their divorce.) I love both Lucy and Desi but I sure would not marry anyone one or stay with anyone with one of those addictions, no less all 3.

    Lucie Arnaz does a good interview as she is very chatty and articulate. But what stands out is her strong love for her father and a prickly dislike of her mother. As executive producer of new movie "Being the Ricardos", this bias is evident. The movie touched on Desi's womanizing, but failed to mention the alcoholism, gambling and his privileged upbringing. Enjoyed "The Plot Thickens" podcast series on Lucille Ball, but not the recent movie.

      I agree, Lucie Arnaz always minimizes her father's addictions but stresses her mother's always be work oriented even at home. It was just "Okay" It seemed more about trying to obviously pander for an Oscar nod then anything.. & I know it's about there real life but it would have helped if Nicole wasn't so Horrible at being the character of Lucy Ricardo! in those scenes it was kinda cringe, Not to mention as kind of a Lucy buff myself it bothered me how the timeline in that movie is not all accurate and they crammed what they did into supposedly a week of shooting the show, It also didn't help how obviously botoxed out Nicole is and we all know there was no botox then.

      Also I felt that Javier Bardem, while a decent actor, did not remind me of Desi at all - who was such an attractive man. So complaints about Nicole's botoxed face - were akin to my feeling about Javier unattractive look and his singing and dancing - were a good try, but did not come up to Desi Arnaz. To this day, I am afraid that I still love Lucy and Desi - warts and all - and appreciate what they did for us - back in 1951 - which lasts till this year 2023. Laughter and Love.

      Yes, I agree - the children did have two parents both Lucy and Desi who totally loved them (Lucie and Desi Jr.) and married people, Edith and Gary, who were great step parents. Yes, there was stress in the marriage, the parents got divorced, but continued on a friends and supported each other till the day Desi died. I totally appreciate Lucie Arnaz keeping the flame alive (Lucy Desi Home Movies - which won a special Emmy Award) and her willingness to share information and add to the dialogue about her amazing parents. I have to say that I Love Lucy is my favorite show ever - as I child it came into my life with our first tv in 1951. While i have not watched tv in many years I watch all the shows on Amazon Prime - during Covid -19 a show a day brought a lift to my life. Again thank you Lucy and Desi
