The rear cover isn't cosmetic to tidy up appearance, its to stop the operator getting sprayed with steaming hot hydraulic oil if a hose bursts inside the cab area (though I dont know how the steering hoses to the plessy steering unit that the steering wheel itself attaches to are covered, maybe I have a cover missing there underneath the dash too). Its surprising the amount of these that have been discarded because people think they are just trim pieces. I have a mk2 one on my mk3 because mine was missing when I got my machine and yes being fibreglass they're a lot easier to modify :)
