JCB, always looking for a better way.
This design was very dated by 1978 but the longevity of these machines can be seen by the number of old machines still found. The last of this era was the Build 5 Powertrain, the later shuttle transmission and better cab access transformed the 3C.
The 3D was my favourite backhoe to operate along with the 807 360. I now drive a 4CX Super in Tenerife.

Loved this video, I was trained on a 2D in the mountains of Southern California, in those days you were put on a hoe with an experienced operator for two days then just put on jobs where other operators helped you learn, very different from today, on my first day we were digging a trench to lay a new water main, nothing else was marked on the road, very small road, almost a paved trail when I got ahold of something that according to my trainer was a large roc/bolder, his words were “more power” just before I breached a high pressure gas main, interesting day!
Look at this. Not a single computer in that cab. This is truly the standard of all backhoe loaders. I can’t believe we went from simplistic designs to god awful computers. I own a 2018 505-20TC and the computer has yet to give me trouble, and that’s YET. Because I know in a few years that computer will be outdated.
It's a bloody shame on this promo video that the JCB logo was upside down on the steering wheel !!

Mein Grossvater kaufte sein erster JCB 1972 und tauschte ihn wieder 1979 durch ein neueres Modell mit Teleskop Baggerarm dieser war bis 2015 in Betrieb das durch seinen Sohn weiter geführt wurde

In 1978 the range was already in mk3 era, this clip is clearly pre spring 77 as machines shown are the MK2 range, sorry to say marketing department

Nice to see these old girls I spent 30 years operating J C B machines with the same firm my boss used to have my name put on every new machine I had I worked for the same firm for 43 years 👍👍
