Not the best solution, but maybe a fix. ....I'm looking forward to seeing the finished article - It's great to see somebody that hasn't done it in the original JCB yellow, white and red, so thank you for being different.

Iv got a 1968 job, the bodywork is rotten , it runs pretty well but lately the oil an water mixed. Don't think its the head gasket do.
Can you not bed the cab in Sikaflex or similar to take up the gaps - or even Stixall which sets to a firm rubbery consistency
That's probably what I am going to do I'm gonna look into it as long as it doesn't expand and shrink with the weather when hot and cold👍
No need to put checker plate under the cab, noone is going to walk there.
