  • some ongoing issues with my new Q1 Pro. having issues with the chamber heater causing the printer to lock up have reached out to support and they are sending me a replacement part to repair the chamber heater currently printing an ABS cosplay prop from STL Flix. support advised me to not use the chamber heater until the repair parts and repair is done. #3dprinting #qiditech #viralvideo #fyp #foryoupage

It does look great. That does suck that it locked up on you.

Thanks for the video I am interested in the cause and solution. Have you tried TPU with the Q1 Pro, if so, how well did it print.

I will document all of it and just fyi , I am printing ABS with it now , just without the chamber heater on and it's doing great.

How has it been going with this printer? Seems pretty nice for the price.

Curious if you ever got this resolved and if so, what was the solution.

Yes the issue was that the cooling fan on the main board was set to slow . Adjustment of that resolved the issue

@@3dpathfinder Thanks for your quick reply. Can you tell me where/how this is adjusted? I'd like to check mine before printing ABS.

I have the same problem where the printer locks up (I can’t even finish the calibration)
After reinstalling the eMMC module and modified the electronics bay fan configuration, it works totally fine now.
I believe the problem is to do with the main board overheating (the klipper host SoC) and completely shutdown. They set the max fan to 60% probably because of the noise, but I just don’t think it is enough, as there is an active chamber. The tool head MCU also gets to 90 degrees when heaters are on full blast, but I think it’s probably fine. I’ve also tested the SoC up to 90 degrees and it did not shut down, not sure what it takes for that to happen.
Either way, I’m receiving a free new mainboard despite everything working fine now.

Support said that they were sending me a new adapter plate and replacement cable I'm assuming that has something to do with the chamber heater since the chamber heater is causing the machine to lock up I could print just fine without using the chamber heater I've already printed ABS not perfect because it does still want to lift a tiny bit off of the bed without the chamber being at exactly 55

I got through the calibration fine after the initial problem of trying to boot it up and it wouldn't boot support Tony to disengage the Wi-Fi dongle then boot it update the firmware reinstall the dongle and that all worked

@@3dpathfinder I have been working with the Qidi Chinese support team (a group chat). They still don't really know what is going on, my printer would spontaneously lock up completely (the host computer is completely off).
Not sure if it is the reinsertion of the eMMC module that resolved it, or if it is a thermal issue, either way, my printer is printing just fine, with 55 degree chamber, host at around 60 degrees, and the toolhead MCU at 85. I would like to get the chamber to 60, but then the MCU will be at around 90 which is outside the speced operating temperature. I'll probably add a fan to the toolhead cover for cooling.
If you turn on the printer and just start preheating the chamber and bed (like I always do with my Voron), the Z stepper motors are not energized yet. And dumbly enough, the electronic bay cooling fan is a controller_fan tied to the Z steppers and will turn on to 60% when the motors are on. Preheating the machine without homing first is basically a guaranteed overheat. Now I configure it to be temperature controlled, it's kinda loud at night, but... whatever.
Yeah, apparently your case is different, because it's tested that the fans at 60% IS enough to cool the mainboard to acceptable levels when a 60 degree chamber is right next to it. There is basically no insulation between them. Not a greatly designed printer with emphasis on high temp materials... but yeah, it's cheap, what else to complain (got mine for 330USD, and the Qidi support is miles ahead of other companies, I think the price, at least the early bird price in China, is totally worth it. Just sent out a mainboard that arrived in 1 day with no questions asked. I don't live in China though, so not that worried in swapping out the main board yet)

@@3dpathfinder Not sure what would cause that. If it were not heating correctly and Klipper verify_heater thermal runaway protection thing kicks in, the display would lock out (unless it was an intentional klipper reboot like save_config)
The easiest way to verify would be to go to the Fluidd interface of the printer and see what happened. You would be able to restart Klipper and the MCUs from the protection status if that were the case.
My case has the host completely dead. The last second I was still monitoring from the web interface, and the next second the webpage was completely disconnected and the port was closed. That was hard to diagnose, and a mainboard problem would be possible.
Overall the printer is working just fine, and I've done about ten hours of ABS printing. Also got a new mainboard that probably can go to my next Voron? Only took me a day of troubleshooting, I'd say it's still a good buy. They just really have to work on their software configurations.

Is firmware latest? Are power connections firmly in?

Yes and yes , support believes it's an issue with the Heater and is sending me an adapter plate and cable
