    Rarely go to concerts myself but noticed that the few I do go to request that audiences be present in the moment. I noticed lots of people put their phones away, so I guess it's partially about respect. It has become part of our culture to capture precious moments all the time, but you go to these things for the experience and should actually BE THERE for it

      @@ashligeran5039 I mean it’s not impossible for some people to have that reasoning, BUT I highly doubt most people think like that. I’ve been on stage a couple times and let me tell you does it make you feel separated from the audience when you can’t interact cuz they all got their phones out. It’s genuinely kinda disrespectful in some cases. If you’re in the back fine go ahead a film, but if you’re in the front rows. Pls don’t. It can make the experience worse for the people behind you. Seeing a wall of blue screens isn’t what people paid for.
      Audiences that have less phones are often more interactive and responsive, at least from my experience, might be different in different genres and situations, but less phones just makes for a better experience.

    One of my favorite memory's is when my (at the time, now ex) boyfriends dad got kicked out of a Gabriel Iglesias show. He was drunk and annoying and had been yelling things after every joke. They warned the audience MULTIPLE times "Do NOT film". Of course as soon as it starts he says out loud in a drunken drawl "I'm gonna film" and couldn't have been more obvious with his phone. Only lasted about 5 minutes before someone came over and told him to get out. My boyfriend and I got to enjoy the rest of the show in peace. Ahole was suprised and complained about how they "singled him out" the next day.🙄

Also, obviously not a performer myself, but I've had moments in college when these guys were chatting in the background, while I was giving a pretty important oral presentation, and in my rare moment of sassy-Bness I just stopped, crossed my arms and waited until they got quiet and asked "are you done?" Didn't matter, the older folks were pulling out the phones on the floor. I was so disappointed. Luckily none of it really blocked my view, but the disrespect for Iggy Pop...

    Unless I am taking a picture/video with a specific person in mind that I want to show it to, I seriously do not understand needing to capture every moment of ever cool event in your life, I enjoy thinfbs so much more when I just enjoy them and am not trying to capture the moment for later. Cause unless you know a specific time you're going to look back on that video, for example you know someone who would enjoy it even more than you but you can't be there, you're likely never ever ever going to look at it ever again, especially if it's a long video. All that in mind, it still doesn't make sense to me to film a comedy set cause that's just disrespectful, plain and simple.

      IF it's allowed and you're not being a jerk about it, why not? Maybe YOU won't look at again but that doesn't mean everyone is like you. People enjoy sharing and saving some of the coolest moments of their life. Now we have smartphones that make it easier but in the past people wrote and painted the same way (if they had the memory and skill. Now it's more accessible.) No you won't be there again but you'll remember it more clearly seeing and hearing it again. I wish I had taken so much more videos and pictures in my life. So much stuff barely captured or not at all, so much forgotten mostly or completely... I would look at it, I look at what I did get and I'm glad of it. (And I look at the videos and pictures taken by the people who I follow on sm when they do something cool! I don't have to "enjoy it more than them" lol wut) And just because you don't feel like you were really enjoying what you were doing because you were filming doesn't mean other people can't both enjoy AND get something in frame. Honestly I'm all for this guy snatching the phone, it's Broadway and no one should be trying that crap. But all these granola 'just be in the moment, maaaan' people. It's ridiculous.

    I am a student musician, 19 years old, in a music (essentially) high-school (I’m in Sweden, so the school systems are different). For reference, I’ve played for a crowd of about 300 people max when it was mostly parents, and around 30 strangers, but those parents of other kids where complete strangers to me. On both occasions people have taken out their phones and filmed me, and others, without asking.
    I’ve never taken offense at that, and honestly I don’t think you should. As a performer on a stage, you are meant for to be scene (pun intended) and people have most likely payed to be there. Whats the difference to you as a performer between them seeing you live, and them filming you to see that same performance at a later date?
    It’s the same performance, and it’s their right to decide if they want to enjoy the moment fully, or try to preserve it.
    Me personally, I like to do a bit of both. Like, if I go to a 2 hour concert I won’t stand there for the whole thing filming, but I might film some of the better parts, or maybe take a picture of the place. I agree that filming makes it a worse experience in the moment, but it’s not by much, and I more often than not regret not having filmed, than having filmed.

    • @stellangios
      @stellangios Рік тому +1

      It'll illegal to film Broadway shows. They're not taking a video to "enjoy it later" they're doing it to post it, possibly hurting the show's ticket sales and def encouraging others who go to the show to film. "So what if it's just a short video?" you might say. But who's going to time how long someone is filming for? And with a popular Broadway show if filming was allowed all the performers would see is a sea of phones and people barely visible behind them. It's fine at a rock or pop concert, it's expected, but theatre performers are looking to connect with the audience, feel their engagement. Not check out where they got their phone case. So it's fine to you but you're not from the same culture this guy is from and you're not doing the same kind of performance he is.
