What song should they have played everyone comment below what song you think the mythbusters should have played and the top pick will get featured on my channel
@@Handles-Suck-UA-cam okay congratulations you have been featured on my channel for your choice song. You can forward this message to your Twitter, facebook, or instagram followers!
I remember my physics teacher doing this in high school, it was quite awesome to see the standing waves in flame. His worked better then Jamie and Adam's did, if i remember. or maybe it just doesn't look as good on video! Unfortunately it's not as cool with music playing on the speaker, there's too many different waves to get a good standing image out of the flames
Plus there is a slight delay as the gas replenishes. AND smaller holes usually work better. This may be the oldest comment I've ever replied too. Hi, 2008!
you know, knowing now afterwards that they didn't like each other at all. Looking back at these old clips you really can feel the tension between them.
Sound itself is not a wave, but a bubble,. The sine wave is only the law of the energy. If you look at a 1 dimensional cut away of the side of the pattern in that bubble, the spaces between the areas where geometric patterns form is where the (~~~~~) wave part comes from. The pressures and vacuums are the high and low points of the wave. Sound does not travel in only one direction... but all directions at once. Check out cymatics if you wish to understand this better.
If you where to look at that pattern from the top down.. you would see a beautiful geometric pattern filling in those valleys ~~ Like I said, the research of cymatics will show you this very clearly. These patterns also mirror the geometric structure found everywhere in nature.
@NikRikia The most impressive looking songs are the ones with high pitched chords backed up with a decent drum track. You get a standing wave that reacts to the drums at the same time. Holds its shape while increasing and decreasing in size.
@Dracoa79 That sure would be a cool prop for a show. On each tube, there would be a small speaker with the sound of each of the instruments the more isolated they could make it (short range mic or something like that, I don't know how it is called).
You have to wonder how Heinrich Ruben developed this amazing thing. Did he have a theory that that would happen, or was he just screwing around with a pipe and a gas supply? I must admit, I rather hope it was the latter!
@LuckyNoDice747 dude I would love to have that as you play music and shit. . . . people come over to hang and point at it "what is that?" "oh that? it's nothing. . . just my FIRE EQUALIZER?!" lol
@CDPuffer Water is an element? If water's an element then by all means, fire is too. Hydrogen is an element, water is a compound and fire is a chemical reaction.
@KridikJones An actual song might have put the flames out. Something like a bass hit from a song would produce a puff of air with the sound instead of just the frequency.
oh damn, are we talking steam now? Sorry for getting it wrong, but when I boil an egg and then by accident pour the water over my hand, it sure feels like it burns my hand. And since I come away with nice blisters all over my hand I would count it as if the water actually burned my hand, even though books may say different about whats to be called a "burn damage". You are probably right in the practical and theoretical terms though.
1:10 you know the thing is cool when even Jaime looks impressed.
True
really wish i coulda seen them play an actual song through it.

@@corncobjohnsonreal The Mythbusters theme.
@@Handles-Suck-UA-cam Was going to say the same. Otherwise, they'd have to get permission and probably pay royalties.
@@corncobjohnsonreal what?

CAUTION: Not to be confused with Rubik's Cube.
Braeden Young huh.... rubiks cube, rubens tube... they are alike indeed!
Braeden Young c.
Veratasium
And yet Reuben remains best known for a sandwich.
you should change your name as "Braeden Old" now
Thanks for the 2008 240p nostalgia.
Lmao it’s on the official channel too, not like some random rip
there is an error in time 1:30, where the indication should read half the wavelength, which is the distance between antinodes. It is a standing wave.
*DAMN* straight!

Jamie: So this is called a Rubens' tube, right?
Announcer: Yeah bitch, Rubens' tube alright.
+ekathe85 lol
+ekathe85 I... I can't unhear it D:
Announcer: Yep, it's Rueben's Tube alright.
^what he actually said
Robert Smith But..BUT..its sounds bitch not its..or maybe its yuPits..idk
Genius. I love that someone thought this was possible, tried it, and were proven right.
I've never seen this experiment. Wow! I wouldn't have thought this could be done. Very cool.
Only Mythbusters would have boxes in their warehouse marked "Raw Meat" and "Fresh Fish"!
Movie props.
that was a perfect way to show wave length. thanks jamie and adam!!!!
I made one of these for my senior physics project, and my teacher had me present it to every physical science and physics class in the whole school.
Pfff, now try to make fire with sound.
I'm going to have to rewatch this series because I keep seeing clips of things I don't remember.
If I'd known about this earlier, my parties would have been more lit!!
“I had not imagined that there was such a clear visual representation of a sound wave.”
Bro wait until you see my sinusoidal function I graphed.
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Very few TV shows I miss; this is one.

We never did or had demonstrations of anything this interesting.
you know, knowing now afterwards that they didn't like each other at all. Looking back at these old clips you really can feel the tension between them.
This jam is *LIT.*
This music is *FIRE.*
Tried to build one of these in junior high... I caught fire to the backyard and got in a lot of trouble.
Luke Dover then your a dumbass.
Sorry about that. I can't even do that.

rubens tubes are AWESOME!
Imagine putting that in a fire place it would look amazing

The world's longest AND hottest self-playing flute!

That is a cool demonstration.
I want a Rubin's Tube Birthday Cake... Tunes and Candles!!!!
They did this at my school at the end of the year... kinda fun.
That was cool!!!!!!!!They should have shown it in the show!!!!!
Dear youtube,
I hate watching a 30 second add to watch a 2 minute video. No matter how awesome the Mythbusters are.
Thanks, Me!
@KridikJones we did - in a friend's backyard... and in physics class. it was AWSOME...
i so want to try this now
Amazing.
This thing's awesome.
my friend made this Ruben's tube, it was pretty awesome for sci research
@Dracoa79
That sure would be a cool prop for a show. On each tube, there would be a small speaker with the sound of each of the instruments the more isolated they could make it (short range mic or something like that, I don't know how it is called).
They should play their favorite song of all time through this.
I now want to start a band called "Rendered in Fire".
You have to wonder how Heinrich Ruben developed this amazing thing. Did he have a theory that that would happen, or was he just screwing around with a pipe and a gas supply?
I must admit, I rather hope it was the latter!
That is soo freaking AWESOME!!!!!
coolest myth ever!!
@ADAM A clear visual representation of a sound is cymatics.
O.o I need to find this kinda thing for my own use. Livin' in a World Without You by The Rasmus with THAT on top...
that, is, AWESOME
Awesome!
That's pretty cool guys
What would it look like if you played HardStyle through the tube?
As the beat goes; GIANT FLAMES!
awesome!!
Isn't the wavelength in the video labeled wrong. I think that's only 1/2 a wavelength for a standing wave pattern
is correct, the video is wrong
I wonder how cool would fire represent some music.
i loooove this!!!
I'm gonna do this for my science fair project.
Yes.
This will help
Wow! It's very very cool!!!!!!!!!!!
@SuperGreat0610 dood your hearing ability is sharp!!!!!
wow! i wanna try this!
Man I Love science!!!
i love it.
Mythbusters and fire? Ah, classic
Who else is binging Mythbusters clips?
I wanna play with that too!!
It looks fun!
AWESOME!! i wish i could do that for my science project
My high school physics class next project! If I were still in high school...
is that what an equalizers graphic is based on? Amazing!
make a real shishkebob with this and play some music so while you cut someones head off the flames will be dancing
i should download this visualizer for my media player !!!!!
what I wouldn't give to see them play Through the Fire and Flames on this thing.....
@Battlekey
Your face melts off, literally
i love mythbusters XD
"Fire it up" literally
Haha, yeh. We did that in class a few months ago (with dubstep).... It was sooo cool :D
EPIC!
SWEET!!!
beast.
Brilliant
@LuckyNoDice747 dude I would love to have that as you play music and shit. . . . people come over to hang and point at it "what is that?" "oh that? it's nothing. . . just my FIRE EQUALIZER?!" lol
Yeah, the whole world would go alight or something. Scary stuff.
@comedyman55 they have, on a larger scale, and its INSANE
awesome
Perfect idea for my next DJ party...
I like the ad that just pops up on the bottom and I can close it...

We did this at school today!!
I was thinking the same thing
y\know he has designed a rubens rube called chucks tube of death as he is going to play his song which he will play in 2012
i like your vids mann
The sound coming out of that speaker is the sound of an electric motor dying in Hell.
that is awesome
thats awesome they should play something
wow, i need to tell my physics teacher to try this in class....
So this is where we get our dancing yellow bars on our stereo systems
oh damn, are we talking steam now? Sorry for getting it wrong, but when I boil an egg and then by accident pour the water over my hand, it sure feels like it burns my hand. And since I come away with nice blisters all over my hand I would count it as if the water actually burned my hand, even though books may say different about whats to be called a "burn damage". I guess it would go through the fire and flames
id like to see some kind of rave playd though that thing!
thats one way to light up a room
@Battlekey flames trough the roof!
