A century ago something remarkable happened in #Shanghai. At the time, it was doubtless an obscure event: even if it hadn't been held in strictest secrecy few would have attributed much significance to this gathering of intellectuals and radicals.
But they would have been wrong.
Inspired by new ideas that heralded a world of new possibilities, these young men - the first members of the Communist Party of #China - were about to begin a political movement destined to throw off the shackles of imperialism and feudalism and rejuvenate a great nation.

This is a great documentary. Thank you from Sydney, Australia. My father who was a Greek sailor in the early 1930's told me how the Chinese people were dreafully treated in China, especially by the Europeans and he made comments of why he liked Chairman Mao and the revolution that had to be. Also, the Mathematition and philosopher Bertrand Russell wrote how he was embarrassed to be an Englishman when he saw how the British Empire treated the Chinese people.

@@siahboonpeng thank you. I had the opportunity to teach English in Central China Hanan Provence and the University students were great, some were proud Chinese Muslims . I kept thinking that my father would not have believed it. I learned more than the university I attended (Sydney) I left with tears in my eyes. Let's hope that co-operation and understanding will be the only way to fight climate change and a dreadful nuclear war; any war. I am 68 now but I stress this to young people everywhere. Let's also hope that the Palestinians would echo the Chinese leader's words ' I will not be bullied...'

Bolivia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba have achieved sovereignty. The danger remains traitors and internal enemies. There is no substitute for a strong vanguard party like the Communist Party of Cuba. Strong anti collusion laws with a foreign power must be rigorously enforced, and a strong intelligence service to defend internal security.

The US will not allow you to do that, look at Cuba. And the 12 creator CPC members in the first meeting in 1921, only 2 are still in CPC in 1949, some are betrayer, more are killed.
After 1921, China fight with the US in Korea, fight with SU in an island. fight with the India in western boarder. Three very powerful countries in the world. It's not an easy way.
Luckily, they insisted and many CPC members don't care of their lives, and finally we are coming to now, we are still not safe, the us aircraft is near us, the Japan who invade China in WWII are controlled by the US. India wants to get more land from China.

As an Eastern European Marxist Communist who's seen my mother country (Romania) crumble economically after the capitalist restoration of 1989, thousands of factories closed and sold piece by piece by the pro-capitalist oligarchs in our government, millions left unemployed when I was born in the early 1990s, state funds embezzled shamelessly by the same oligarchs so that they could build their own business empires and mansions while the country's poor suffered in dire poverty for more than a decade, all I can say about this is that I admire the CPC's commitment to progress, fighting poverty and not allowing business interests and corporate lobbies to influence, let alone control as they do here in the west, the country's government!
China has used and uses the greed of Western capitalists (and domestic capitalists) to develop itself technologically and economically, but all its key infrastructure (like electricity) and extractive industries are overwhelmingly state-controlled and the state owns shares and even has a CPC branch in all major private corporations to make sure their practices are kept in check, and all the while the party still has goals like fighting poverty, the good of the people and building socialism in mind. Qian Jin, tongzhimen! ✊
Revolutionary greetings and much respect from a European communist! Your country is what all of the Warsaw pact countries could've been if our corrupt politicians thought about the future of the country and the good of the people, instead of their personal greed and petty nationalism like the ones in the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, and for you staying committed to a socialist vision in the turbulent times after 1989 you have my utmost admiration and respect! 👏 And great documentary by the way - the humble origins of the CPC are fascinating to learn about!

Why “the making a new China” came about? What was wrong with the old China? The old China had inept leadership that was unable to address foreign colonialism, domination, and military aggression. Old China was narcissistic; it had clung to the notion of the “Middle Kingdom” despite the glory days of China had long passed. Old China’s social structure and government bureaucracy had accepted corruption, status quo, poverty, and outdated technology - the sins that allowed foreigners to invade China at will and carve out portions of China as colonies. During China’s struggle to remain in one piece, various forms of governance tried to unify the various ethnic groups of Chinese whose only common denominator were the written language and cultural holidays. China’s large agrarian class provided the political and military manpower that Mao Tse Tung needed to overthrow the incumbent government. Mao Tse Tung’s CPC unified the millions of peasants by promising farmland, a path toward prosperity, a voice in their future, rectify social inequality, and freedom from colonialism.

It is great to lead by good example! Let the others adapt their philosophy as they see fit. Their basic aim that should inspire the world is their ability to provide the poorest among them a shelter and the basic means of surviving. It is so sad to see that in some of the more prosper societies people are forced to live in card boards in the streets! Of course, such achievements would be deliberately pushed aside and they talk only of freedom of speech. But what is freedom of speech when your stomachs are empty all the time!! Of course at the same time, there must be the openness to allow people to express their talents without unnecessary hindrances. Hope the rest of the world takes a closer look into such social responsibility!

If China is communist, why is there private ownership of the means of production?

Why is Huawei a Privately OWNED company ? 60 Billion Shares and OWNED SOLEY by Employees ONLY. Not traded in Open Market. Bosses are 'ELECTED via ELECTION by EMPLOYEES' . YET ..... Most Employees are Happy and Willing to Sacrifice for the Company . It is A COMMUNIST country . Yet the Employees there are "Owners of the Company". And many are Millionaire too.

@@Rus-bw2oq China is certainly a communist country. The distinction between Capitalism and Communism is not at the level of production: the creation of surplus value; the distinction is at the level of distribution: the distribution of surplus value.

Lmao, mentions mao, then proceeds to patriotically ignore the whole genocide thing a bit though eh? xD - the CCP wouldn't be all that bad a party if they only acknowledged the atrocities of their past and the messiness it took to reach a state of relative peace. Oh... and to actually chill on all the genocide shit.
