The Republicans have been operating fully under the hope that Trump will return to the Presidency and when he does so any particular Republican you care to name will have their hands out hoping to be rewarded for fealty to him. This is because, knowing he will become an autocrat - a dictator - such rewards will model those of oligarchy in the corrupt and crumbling nation of Russia. Republicans have always tended, historically, to lean into corruption and the idea of a wealthy corporate culture, which they represent, vs the middle class and working class whom they disparage. This is entirely the crap shoot that Republican fools and criminals are betting upon. I don’t think that will *ever* happen in the US - but they are willing to hope against hope that it will. 🇺🇸

I justed watched a video explaining how this bill would impact married women the most. A birth certificate would be needed, however, most married women changed their last name at marriage. Your last name won't match your birth certificate. You will need your marriage license and your birth certificate. The video was suggesting it's really about suppressing women voters because Republicans know they're losing them.

The state of Texas now requires you to bring your birth certificate, Social Security card, a credit card and your expiring driver’s license in order to renew it. Since I didn’t keep my maiden name, I also have to take my marriage certificate to prove I am the same person as the birth certificate. I’ve had a Texas driver’s license continually since 1967. After all these years they have decided I have to prove who I am. Go figure.

I was born abroad to U.S. citizen parents (who had been born here, as had _their_ parents) and to register to vote the first time I had to show a special form from the State Department for which I had to pay $65.00. And it wasn't easy to track down which form was needed, either. The first time around, I got the wrong advice, so I had to do everything over. The whole process took six months. In other words, it isn't always easy even for "native-born" American citizens (which the law says I am) to prove their status.
