1:53. "Not my head, I've got a family." Little did he know that 11 days later he would die from a massive head injury in a boat crash. Really sad how life turns out sometimes. RIP Jose.
Even when he was involved in a scuffle he was charismatic. This is how you solve problems in life: you ask the person WTF BRO? and try to develop an understanding with them. He didn't mind getting thrown at... just told them to keep it down. You'll be missed kid. I always kept my eye on his starts from out here in California.
2:01 Fernadez: " i wouldn't do that" (meaning charge the mound) Flowers: "i don't know that" Fernandez:"You know me, I don't go after a catcher, you know me" (talking about flowers intervening)
Did he give one thought to his family when he got drunk, snorted cocaine, and murdered 2 of his friends by driving a boat in a reckless manner that also got himself killed?
William Levy Braves have been looking better offensively. Either way, I cant believe this was only a week and a half before his death. 7 shutout innings against us for his last start. #RIPJose
I think his point was just that even though he isn't a Marlins fan, that he is still upset by the passing of JF. Honestly I think this has upset alot of people across the country who are just baseball fans in general and knew JF and his potential. He truly could have been an all time great... Such a tragic thing... Truly was a kid that just loved life, baseball, and America... RIP#16JF
Bobby lol he still probably would have gone on the boat given how long ago this was posted, but yes I see your point, he will be missed. R.I.P Jose Fernandez
Watching this I get a sense of what a strong bond of friendship Dee Gordon and Fernandez had. Only one of two things can hold someone back when their that angry. One is just physical strength and the other is a good friend to help keep their cool. I feel for their loss of a teammate and friend.
What a guy he was. Even when he was angry, he was civil and willing to work it out. It's hard to believe he's been gone for nearly two years. Jesus man. Makes you think about life. I wish I got the chance to see him pitch in person. Though my team (Nationals) has a rivalry with the Marlins, in my mind Jose supercedes the rivalry. RIP Jose.
Dumb logic to be honest. If only someone had shot him in the leg! Then he wouldn't be on the boat! If only someone had thrown a baseball at his head! And then he wouldn't be on the boat! You can literally list a billion things that would have saved his life, but they didn't happen. He's gone.
As a Braves fan and a former player, I'll say Fernandez had every right to be upset. You can see him say multiple times that he understood if he was going to get hit, just don't throw at his head. That's not the way that is supposed to be handled. Fernandez wasn't perfect, but he seemed like a genuinely good kid and an extremely talented ballplayer, and baseball is worse for having lost him.
this Braves 'pitcher' started toward Fernandez before Fernandez even had a chance to complain. SO OBVIOUS - the pettiness. totally and obviously intentional throwing at him. BUT after what happened today, is this just the game? It is really bad for the game. But I'm really glad that Fernandez stood up against it. This is the childish aspect of this game. But Fernandez has always demonstrated you can be childish, innocent and decent in playing this game, but more importantly, a great baseball player. Has Fernandez ever gone after hitter like this?
This happens all the time in baseball. Notice how you didn't complain until after his tragic death. As a braves fan Fernandez will dearly missed. For what he brought to the game, baseball is secondary to life. But Ramirez was making a baseball play that happens all the time. You were never going to complain in the first thing. Don't try to push hate to Ramirez
I played baseball - more than high school, in fact legion. Yah, I know. but you completely mischaracterized me by claiming I hate or am trying to push hate toward Ramirez, taking advantage of the situation. you are taking advantage of me making a relevant point about the sport. I'm sure Ramirez knew Fernandez better than both of us so I offer my condolences to Ramirez, if that makes you happy. I've been hit by a 90+ mph fastball, I've played this game - not minor or major league, but I've played it with better than amateurs. My points, which you mischaracterized, are, Look at how ramirez, after throwing a bad, or intentionally malicious pitch, walked right toward Fernandez, expecting a fight. so it's a mistake pitch he knew he threw?? then the split second after releasing the ball walked at the hitter expecting the fight??? who started this? this happens in baseball all the time - yep I've experienced it, BUT it is stupid. that is my point. Yep, I only saw this video today b/c of the spotlight on Fernandez, as I am trying to find things to appreciate what Fernandez gave to the sport. and I have found a lot I was not aware of. like his amazing slider, breaker and fastball. You can try to discredit anyone who is now reacting as being out of your league. I don't care. But when I see this, I can make the statement I'd hope others would agree with about this issue in the sport. And I offer my sincerest condolences to your Ramirez.
you throw a pitch that bad - you should be ejected, charged by the batter, and beaten. No excuse. Horrible, stupid pitch, stupid anyone who supports it, stupid and idiotic to try to play the role of major league pitcher, who should be in junior leagues all the way. no, should by in little school baseball.
I don't trust you I have also observed that many deceased individuals have many compliments their way whether deserving or not...however..JF was an incredible human being on and off the field. Before you wrap up your short sighted opinion on him I think you would enjoy and benefit from some research on the brief but extraordinary life of Jose Fernandez. He truly was a great kid who was raised the right way and had a tremendous future ahead. Hall of Fame career (potentially) & had the respect of the entire league --save for a minor leaguer in Ramirez. I expect a "Made for TV" movie on his life within 5 yrs
I went to a Braves game I believe it was 98 or 99 they got into a huge brawl fans were throwing stuff on the field and the benches cleared can someone please tell me what game that was
Man I miss watching this young man play. He had a fire burning inside to play, it was awesome to watch how much fun he had, but I don't blame him a but for being ready to throw down with the pitcher and catcher there. That was dangerous as hell, and honestly Jose was a big dude, I think with a sufficient reason he would have absolutely wrecked flowers and the pitcher if they had let him. Aaron Judge reminds me of Jose a bit in his love of the game, but I've watched them throw at him too and I'm waiting for that one pitcher (there are several who need a good beat down in the league right now, who throw at people intentionally with no regard to their careers and safety) to take aim at Judge and it'll be one time too many and there's not a catcher in the league who is going to stop him if he decides to charge, he's just going to have be careful not to kill the guy with a single punch.
RIP Jose...Now can someone explain to me why the Braves are always in these types of bench clearing altercations? Are they the unwritten rules police? Sheesh
The Atlanta Braves used to be a powerhouse team for a long time, spanning a decade and a half. Now in recent years, past 5 years or so, they have sucked, one of the worst teams in the league. They get tired of losing, getting their butts whooped, and constantly giving up HRs. Bottom line: sore losers.
What? I hate that Jose isn't here anymore, great player and greater human being. I really liked and respected him, but this baseball, plain and simple. If you watched the WHOLE game you would of seen that the Jose threw and hit Markakis early and because of that the Braves threw at Jose. Just as every baseball team would do, especially teams that remember how to play the game, Records have no issues in this ordeal, it was a baseball thing and it was handled and afterwords there wasn't any problem or angry. Like I say it's baseball. As for home runs given up, the Braves have the 8th best record in the league with the bullpen having the best. Past 2 years Atlanta has been a whipping boy so to say but past 5 years? Really Maybe you need to pay attention to the game more so. Anyways...
4 losing seasons in the past 6 seasons. The Braves have been really tired of losing/giving up HRs in recent years. Not the only time they've been in silly fights over a HR.
1:59 what an example of how great this guy was.
No one else should like this comment, 16 likes is appropriate.
He had a passion for the game. Most pros in baseball only had it in for the money. He had actual love for the game
nate borunda apparently he had a passion for coke too
Beff Jaker your stupid bro
he was a coke head

And suddenly, the bad blood is all but forgotten, as life itself is put into perspective. R.I.P. Jose Fernandez, you will be missed.

Rest in peace Jose, gone way too soon.
I watched this last week. R.I.P. Jose. & R.I.P. Atlanta Braves franchise.

I'm a mets fan, but I feel so heart broken by this. RIP jose.

noted.
I think his point was just that even though he isn't a Marlins fan, that he is still upset by the passing of JF. I know that, I almost cried when they were tributing him yesterday. Its such a shame, he had an entire career ahead of him. RIP JF

I'm a Braves fan and I agree with Jose actually....you don't throw at the head and I think the whole retaliation thing is B.S. RIP Jose.

Bobby lol he still probably would have gone on the boat given how long ago this was posted, but yes I see your point, he will be missed. R.I.P Jose Fernandez
If his coach never gave him the start off he would have never been on the boat. An unessesary extra day off towards the end of the season.
Matthew moore this was like a week or two before he died
He was drunk and high on cocaine so he may have died by robbing someone or something.
Yea bro fr he would've ended up dying 11 days sooner 😂
"Just don't hit me in the head man, I have a family" - Jose Fernandez
