Amazing to go back and see some of your earlier videos... I just recently picked up a MacMini (the slightly faster 1.4 processor) for a whopping $35, and it actually boots and runs. Ram is low at 256m, so I am thinking to do the memory upgrade. You have made it clear and simple, thanks so much!
In the video at 3:20 pulling the assembly out it doesn't show you the connector in the corner as he's pulling it out. The video skips then where the assembly is now out. Be careful to disconnect it and remove any tape holding it in, you should see this if you're slowly pulling it out.
I think that another way to tell if it is intel is if it has an IR sensor for Apple remote. The IR sensor is at the right side of the disk drive. It is a bit of black plastic. I have several and the G4’s don’t have one but the intels do
@@jamieslifee That's ok if it's yours and you don't care because you don't see it, but if you are upgrading a customer's Mac mini and they see it, then you have to replace the whole top case. It may not be expensive now, but it would have been 10 years ago.
Disassembling using screwdrivers is NOT a good way. Original service manual says: "Modify the Putty Knife
1. If you don’t order a modified putty knife (922-6761) from Apple Service, purchase a putty knife with a 1.5-inch (38 mm), flexible metal blade. 2. Using sandpaper (150 grit), file down the end of the putty knife (on one side) until it’s slightly beveled. Rub the edge of the putty knife back and forth for about 2 minutes on the sandpaper. " I have used dining knife which is narrower (cca 18 mm) but much better than screwdriver.
I added a gig. It helped with fox4ten, but UA-cam and Facebook are in slow motion for other reasons. I'm curious if the G5 is decent in those same sites.
Yeah man, if you can try and get a Intel Core 2 Duo even. Intel Core-Duos are going to be obsolete soon enough, and even paying the extra $100 is probably going to be worth it in the long run.
no, but anything over 100 gigabytes is overkill for such a system. A Mac Mini G4 is more versatile than an iBook, and more reliable, so a bigger drive for such a computer is more sensible.
Hey, can you help me? I have a mac mini G4 and what it seems like it is the same as yours, I'm running 10.5.8 Leopard but I need to get wireless internet working, In system preferences I can find airport under network. Is there something missing?
I've always had a thing for the G4 ever since seeing the MHz myth vids by Steve Jobs. I also fell in love when I learned about the Altivec SIMD instructions or "velocity engine" and the insane bump in performance for progs that use it. Why then can't my 1.42GHz G4 Mac Mini play simple youtube vids smoothly even in 240p? I used to watch youtube all the time with an AMD Duron 850 and shoot even a PIII 450 and that was back when it used resource hungry flash. I tried my G4 Mini in the flash YT days and even now with 10-4 Fox and HTML-5 the audio works but it drops insane frames.
It would be nice to see an mSATA to IDE adapter installed, you could easily install 2x512 and ditch the old optical drive. I wonder how this could get setup.
now, you can run macos 9 classic mac os on the g4-powered mac mini - for more info see www.macos9lives.com forums - want proof? see this video : ua-cam.com/video/t9G5T0ZaWok/v-deo.html
Isn't the Mini G4 just special? Beautiful machine, and the PPC Arch is a masterpiece in engineering. Timeless.

Some of the older machines still work just fine for daily stuff like email, word processing, web browsing, etc
I'll be uploading that video later today and creating the link.
I actually installed an 1TB SSD hard disk in that in the DVD bay and turned it into a media server.
thanar nice
i picked one up for 20 euro recently 512 mb 1,42mhz great little machine for mac os 9.2
I'd probably find one with at least an Intel Core-Duo. The G4 doesn't handle high-def stuff very well.
2:39 2.2TB is the maximum as is the case with any PowerPC boot drive
Wow! if it works, that was a steal!
Wow, no comments in 6 years, also your name is 8-Bit Guy.
Druaga1 put an sd card in a G4 Mac mini and he admitted he never took one apart. He didn't break it
I just bought one of these bad boys with a 1.25ghz 512m and a 40g HDD, adding 1g mem and a 500gb HDD
Lmfao. I thought this thing had a Sata HDD
+Bryce Reigle hey hey.. is it good for using today ?
Tin Cole for basic things like email, web browsing (not including YT) its fine but for gaming or hard use then no its very outdated
Wow Same
i just bought one for 100 dollers off ebay

Good video, but what happened to the link you said you would in the description about intel mac minis?

@1:30 and you can see all the scratches from using a screwdriver...
1:30
It’s on the bottom and barely visible when put back together.

Damn that majestic intro lmao
Putty knives work better than screwdrivers and can cause less damage to the tabs.
Thanks for the very quick reply - keep up the good work!

i made upgrade but now i can not find and install the operational software system. Have you any idea for this
I bought a Mac mini of the same model but they did not give me the power cable where can I buy one
I have a tiny ide to sata adapter, could I use it with the HDD on this
Computer?
Bryce Reigle Worth a shot i reccon, just make sure the adapter will fit inside the mac.

I bought that same model of Toshiba hdd, it's got to be the slowest IDe hard drive i ever used. It sat around new old stock btw
I want one of these as a media center...
What David how are we supposed to put it back together
Very good video!
Question what is the size configuration of the motherboard
i love your videos!!!
Any tips on de-yellowing the tops of these?
Have you searched youtube with the keywords: whiten yellowish plastic ? There are plenty of many solutions to this.

hey if u remove that hdd forever in that device can i have it so i can put it in use
PLATINUM GAMINGG
Can you upgrade both

Maybe disconnect the airport card, let it boot up so that it realises it's gone and then shut it down and re-install it and then the wifi should work.
I was wondering if someone could help me. i'am planning to buy a mac mini can i use a standard pc keyboard and mouse with it ?
Thanks My First Apple product Purchase ever
Dude, that method of opening, damaged the metal lip
can the ram be DDR 400?
D.T. Games Yes, it will only run at 333MHz, however.
Most of the space is because of the DVD Burner
I have one of these.
What's the worst case scenario if a G4 gets 2Gb DDR Ram?
+Cesar Barrios won't boot
There are no DDR1 2GB non-ECC modules in existence. Shame. (ECC is basically = server RAM which can't be used)

Apple Before? Allowed to do basic upgrades.
Nowadays, even fucking ssd has being soldered to the board.
no i have a relatively new computer and its not.
what the max r
am this can take?
1 GB
You should give directions to put it back together
Do it in reverse
Does this have built in wifi?
Yes airport card
Is the memory the same as the RAM? Or am I just stupid? 😅
G O O G L E
Upgrading from 512MB to 1GB today have an extra stick I bought when I built my pc some years back.
wats theoutro music?
Darude sandstorm
Why am I out of luck when my computer already has 1 GB of RAM? I'm saving money for a new module after all.
What is it says it’s an M1 processor?
It’s a joke
Thanks I was ripping mine apart to get at the drive. (I didn't plan on using it, I just wanted to throw the damn thing out except salvage the drive!)
Its DDR RAM, Not DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4.
