LOL! I am also doing homework (study for exams) and going to listen to The Wall entirely for the first time and heard the song sounds similar to one of Metallica's songs ( and I've noticed this a few times before) so I searched it up. It is quite similar eh :D both great song too!
Pink Floyd has been a inspiration for generations and when Metallica were young they probably looked up to Floyd. Just like all the metal of today people looked up to Metallica.
I think we are so used to new music being so elementary that we think playing a chord is composing. This is just a chord and sounds more like a tribute to me... just my thoughts...
Lol i noticed this yesterday while playing fade to black, the structure of the song is almost the same and the solo is pretty much the same as well lol. both great songs though, i consider Fade to Black "metal's comfortably numb"
I've always thought the solo in Fade To Black is very similar to Comfortably Numb's but I don't know shit about theory so I can't say if they are in the same key.
@moniquesanchez4102 I was obsessed with Linkin Park during middle school 10-15 yo, then went into metal phase during high school years and started listening to progressive rock since junior year high school. I've been obsessed with pink floyd ever since.
is definitely a copy... metallica is a fan of pink floyd, they have performed pink floyd's songs in their concerts, then they probably were "influenced"
Look at ledzeppelinfreak try to defend obvious plagiarized music........ironic, considering how Led Zeppelin stole the most music of any band in history.
Matthew Schissler Jr I have a massive love for Zep and yes they have copied No dought at all But i find the most copied Band is Black Sabbath...listen to the first 5 Lps they spawned a generation of copying ;)
I said this years ago before there was ever a UA-cam video about it that Metallica stole the guitar riff of Fade To Black from Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd.
Nossa, não tem como ser tão diferente...Não existe plágio de maneira alguma. Vários artistas utilizam estes acordes básicos para composição...ridículo esta comparação!
Glad to see other people picked up this similarity.
Me too
Check out hysteria by def Leppard if you want another one that fits with these
I was listening to The Wall and then Goodbye Blue Sky came and I was like, wait this sounds similar
ME TOO
which makes Metallica even more awesome if they were inspired by the greatest band ever....Pink Floyd
They played run like hell on gilmours bday, so it’s likely
2 of the best bands ever.

Same lol, you can't hear a song or 2, you need to listen to the whole album for the experience
the riff from metallica is in Bminor but I gues the part from goodbye blue sky is in Gmajor there are some notes that are the same
Never mind meter, beat, and all the other stuff...if it's not the same key it's not plagiarism. Horse shit.
Pink Floyd has been a inspiration for generations and when Metallica were young they probably looked up to Floyd. Just like all the metal of today people looked up to Metallica.
I'm listening to The Wall right now and I just happened to notice this myself. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
i noticed this too when i first listened to "the wall" album, thank you for noticing too and taking your time to post this :)
Everything to some degree is similar to something else. But these are completely different melodies.
If you listen to Def Leppard's Hysteria, there are also similarities.
I think we are so used to new music being so elementary that we think playing a chord is composing. This is just a chord and sounds more like a tribute to me... just my thoughts...
I think also Confortably Numb and Fade To Black ,in the solo, as very similar chords.
I love both these bands endlessly. But, my god, Pink Floyd is just the best
Wow, they sound exactly the same :O!!
Yep, that's right.
@DOMESTOS229 да я не заметил сначала, но теперь, когда я слушал обе песни я заметил сходство
The main riff on "one" plays on these same notes too

also Def Leppard came up with Hysteria after Pink Floyd
I've always thought the solo in Fade To Black is very similar to Comfortably Numb's but I don't know shit about theory so I can't say if they are in the same key.
Yeah man I realized this this in 1985. A lot of people did actually. Mostly metal heads oddly.
Now listen to what I've down by Linkin Park. It's literally the same thing as goodbye blue sky but played on a piano
I just listened to “What I’ve Done” to check. Holy crap, how did I not notice that?!
Niiiiice observation!! 😅❤🎉

I knew it
1000000x%pink floyd
how exactly is the black album mainstream?
pink floyd x siempre
@creeperLAD Это аранжировка металлики решает)
Hysteria by Def Leppard sounds more like a Knockoff than Fade to Black does.
А я и не замечал)
I know why I love metallica... Floyd influence...
Well, you must be missing more then a few things in life, if you really think this.
similar: slightly, identical: not even close, plagiarism: no chance in hell
great artists steal.
It's the same, but metallica took all the hopeful singing out of theres. Thus darker.
So no can't copyright notes and harmony
is definitely a copy... metallica is a fan of pink floyd, they have performed pink floyd's songs in their concerts, then they probably were "influenced"
If this is plagiarism, what did Led Zeppelin do?
Pink Floyd is amazing. Even Phantom of the Opera rips them off.
Is 100% equal , search Metallica and Excel another copy
Highly unlikely. Hetfield wrote fade to black and he didn't listen to pink floyd. Unlikely he even knew of this song at the time
lol you think a kid who was into rock music and growing up in the late 70s didnt know about Pink FLoyd?
Look at ledzeppelinfreak try to defend obvious plagiarized music........ironic, considering how Led Zeppelin stole the most music of any band in history.

Oasis too, as much as I love them. Makes me laugh how obvious some of it is.
A minor arpeggio and you think it is plagiarized? Hahahahaha . Listen to the beat more closely
If this had included the part in Goodbye Blue Sky where the guitar starts, the resemblance would be even more obvious.
I said this years ago before there was ever a UA-cam video about it that Metallica stole the guitar riff of Fade To Black from Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd.
IT'S A FUCKING B MINOR! GET OVER IT, PPL.
Втираете какую-то дичь.

You know nothing about music if you think 90s Metallica was great.
80s Metallica was great
