Breaking 70 from 6000 yards is a significant accomplishment in golf. It requires a combination of skill, strategy, and mental toughness. Here are a few tips that may help you achieve this goal:
Focus on your short game: A strong short game is essential for shooting low scores, as it allows you to save shots around the green. Practice your chipping, pitching, and putting to improve your chances of getting up and down.
Choose the right clubs: Know your distances and select the appropriate clubs for each shot. This will help you hit more greens in regulation and give you better chances for birdies.
Develop a consistent swing: A consistent swing is key to hitting accurate shots. Practice regularly and work on your mechanics to develop a repeatable swing.
Manage your course strategy: Use your course management skills to choose the best shots and avoid trouble areas. This may involve laying up short of hazards, aiming for the fat part of the green, or choosing a safer club off the tee.
Stay mentally focused: Golf is a mental game as much as it is a physical game. Stay focused on each shot and try not to get too down on yourself if you hit a bad shot. Trust in your abilities and stay positive.
By working on these areas and practicing consistently, you can improve your chances of breaking 70 from 6000 yards. Good luck!

Thank you Lord Golf Sidekick. Rotellas books have been amazing for me. I always shoot lower the first round out after re reading. The advice is simple and actionable, and gets me away from thinking about mechanics on the course. Much more useful to me than a UA-cam rabbit hole! Great advice as usual, playa.

This was by far the straightest and most consistent you’ve ever hit it on this channel. Might want to give your hitting 14/18 and those couple green under regulations credit for your score. Putting and chipping got you in the most trouble and your tee shots never lost you a stroke. I mean only one bogey is still outstanding , I don’t want to sound too negative. Congrats playa!!

@@GolfSidekick great video. Bob Rotella is definitely "swimming in the deep end of the pool" compared to his peers. Over the past month or so, my putting has become lethal. Got fitted for a Bettinardi, worked on alignment, practicing putting a couple of times a week, and I'm making putts. Not trying to make as many puts over 20 feet, just getting it to 4-5, knock it in, and GTFO. I'm going to try this mindset when I play this Tuesday and Thursday. Mantra, "I'm the Picasso of putting, and the green is my canvas.", and not get hung up on getting to the green. I will report back, sir.

Tuesday mornings are for tranquility. I love those earliest possible tee times...nothing but the sunrise, morning mist, and a few wild animals with you on the course. It makes a game that can be frustrating sometimes seem quite peaceful.

Commenting on this video cuz it was the first in my suggested feed, told you I broke 90 the other day for the first time in years, 2 birdies in the round and 6 straight fairways found on the back 9. Well playa in chief today I shot a 58 over 9… what a life! We were ridiculously rushed tho since they had an event going on and had terrible planning, so I got 2 free rounds out of it anyway, but the difference in stress free golf is INSANE. The other day I broke the course down into 3’s, didn’t care, and played my game, went amazing. Today being rushed, not having time for a routine, feeling the pressure, couldn’t have gone worse. We sure do make golf hard for ourselves don’t we! Oh well onto next time where we will for sure be keeping it stress free! I’m trying to be better for letting the bad rounds go since they’re bound to happen as an amateur. Thanks for all your advice Cheif, even tho it doesn’t always go our way we can still try!

I liked the voice-over. Great video! I've been doing heads-up putting since last season. It allows me to feel more athletic with putting instead of being so cerebral. I simply pick a spot, look at it, and stroke the ball. My distance putting has improved dramatically. I don't even care a ton if I hole long putts. I just like that it leaves me tap-in pars when I don't make the birdie putt.

Your description of choking is EXACTLY what I was going through just yesterday. I had 4 straight pars in a row and some of them were quite long to make and really not likely to drop but did. I was confident enough in them that I went for them and on the ones I was less confident about, my "auto-pilot" putting still worked and they dropped! I was thinking "uh oh, could this be it, am I gonna get my PR?". That was the beginning of the choking. The very next hole was a bogey, then a par, then double-bogey. Point is, you explained the process well and thanks for assuring me that I'm not the only one that does it. BTW, I still got to my lowest score ever!

I’ve been out of golf for a couple years and have recently got back. I had my handicap down to a 5 two years ago and I did that by exactly what you’re teaching. I have watched and listed to bobs books. I played in a summer league, never hit a driver one time and ended up in the championship loosing to my buddy by 2 shots. Fairways and greens do work. !!! Most of the guys I played against in the league would ridicule me for not playing driver and couldn’t understand…. They didn’t make it to the championship. Cheers.

Matt watched this 2 days ago. Shot 78 on the front today, started with no swing and went bogie, bogie. Told myself that I can come back from a poor start. Finished the 9 with a bogie and then had a mental lapse and hit a terrible putt on 10, another bogie. Played one under the next 8 and shot my lowest score in about 2 years. I don’t think I would have made it without watching this video. Even though I knew the score I played each shot. I’ve developed a slightly different approach to putting. I line the ball up and when I get over the ball, I say yo myself, “see the line, be the line”. So instead of having doubt about the line, I’m accepting I’ve made the right decision. (I have no depth perception so this is difficult). The other thing I’ve done last couple of rounds is trying not to over read putts. I want to think that there had to be a break on every putt. Today I played 2 8 ft putts as straight putts and made them both.

Ive had trouble with my putting after coming back from injuries main,y due to a loss of feel and technique. My coach got my technique sorted but what’s really helped me has been Rotella’s Putting Out of Your Mind. Mainly due to the same thing Lord Sidekick is doing and actually forgetting about the ball. For the last 5-6 months I haven’t looked at the ball when putting and have instead looked at my spot 3 inches in front of the ball. It helped me for the same reasons as Lord Sidekick as once I know my face is lined up I look away and don’t look at stance or face alignment. It has completely freed me up and put all my emphasis on line. It’s the biggest revelation over the past 6 months which has seen the biggest improvement on course.

Hey matt. Sometimes when I practice I literally roll a ball underhanded in a putting position to the hole, and that helps me figure out pace and line in my subconscious mind. I find that most everybody has the ability to "putt" incredibly well by just standing in a putting position and rolling the ball towards the hole, and once you transfer it to the putter its MONEY. 100% The strongest part of my game.

  • @dontpanic716

Tuesday mornings are for stress free putting.
This year I committed to putting while looking at the hole for all putts outside a few feet, as my issue was always pace and hitting it too short. And I said I would stick with it all year, no waffling or bailing on it mid round. The last few rounds I am seeing my birdie average go up and i am making longer putts.
I noticed on longer putts its a bit hard to look all the way to the hole. I will look into the 5 foot thing. I have been meaning to read putting out of your mind. I read his other book.
Very nice round. I am happy to see you putting in a similar way as I have been. Makes me even more confident it doing it that way.

i haven't looked at the ball when putting since 1998. i read The Inner Game of Golf and the writer recommended practicing putting looking at the hole only. This set me free. I was already a good putter, but looking at the ball was holding me back. There's no information there. There is absolutely no reason to look at the ball once you developed and honed your mechanics. It's the easiest stroke in the game.
When I started practicing that way, it immediately felt natural. I play all sports and correlation I immediately made was to shooting a free throw in basketball. Basketball players aren't looking at the ball when they shoot. They're staring straight at the target - right inside the hoop. It's the subconscious that gets them there. You tell it what the target is and it will take care of the rest.
The same is true for putting. I don't even line up the put. My subconscious does it in seconds. I just walk up behind the ball half looking at the ball half at the hole. By the time I address the ball I'm lined up with no conscious thought. I then CONNECT with the hole. I look at the dead center of it and see nothing else. Then I stroke and release. My subconscious figures out the speed. I was very very accurate when I still played and practiced everyday; to the point that I converted some strangers along the way who I had been paired with.
Give it a try. Free yourself. Before I attempted this, I already had very good fundamentals and mechanics. I knew my stroke and could always rely on putting right down the line. Practice that and you'll never have to look at the ball again. There is so much helpful information BETWEEN the ball and the hole.

These days I pay try not to pay attention to my score but it still happens. Did it in a medal last year. Even par front 9 on a challenging course; promptly triple bogged the 10! The best golf video on UA-cam for me. Matt has the perfect mindset here, the man is a magician inside 150 yards when he’s in this mood. 🏌🏽

Tuesday mornings are for 3 foot putts in a circle, followed by 30 foot putts inside 3 feet, a little chipping and pitching and finish with shots in the bunker...... and most likely time one driving range jus smashing it with no goal in mind like all the others :D

Great video Matt. Was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. Cruising and on course to shoot a 72 but changed my approach the last 3 holes. Will take a lot of good from your advise and Vlog plus read Bob Rotella's book. Thx!!!

What the commentary about throughout this round is the importance of being 'relaxed' in a way that takes your brain of how difficult the automaticity of the golf stroke is. It may be called being 'in the zone'! We've all had periods of it can we make them longer?
