Thanks, Nick, for featuring my alma mater in your travels through the midwest! I SO enjoyed the virtual visit. I caught glimpses of places i remembered and lots of new places as well, as i graduated back in "the good old days"! It kind of shocked me to see all the negative comments left by viewers! I did not think i would see that regarding Madison. Thanks again for visiting our state and best wishes on your travels! ❤
Yeah, I live here and thought it's changed and has problems like any other city, just doing a drive by and getting comments from people who actually have never been here... Well you can do that with virtually any city. I don't like Biden and don't like the taxes, or the cost of rent, but the city... Still love it
Hey I'm a Sconi here and I'm with you and agree with you. Madison literally looks like it did in any of the last 3 decades I've been familiar with it. I can't even imagine what this guy's video would be like if he did this video during Halloween! If homeboy was gonna film state street like that he could have at least gone out at night not the daytime where everyone's sleeping off Mifflin and Big10 games. It's important to remember this guy's entire UA-cam series on this is literally just a ploy to push radical politics. I actually live in St. Paul, MN now and frankly most daysIi go out here I find myself thinking this is the most annoying woke liberal place, then I realize Madison really isn't even that hardcore liberal. When you get most students at UW Madison talking about their beliefs they might come off liberal, but they're definitely more right wing in their ideologies. There's definitely an air of libertarian type mentality around the Madison Isthmus but it just gets overshadowed by mainstream politics...But since they don't vote for right wingers people need a reason to cry and whine over a scapegoat. I actually refuse to vote for the longest list of reasons and people attack me over that too and they don't even get why they're angry. They usually get quiet when i point out to them that I wouldn't vote for who they want to win an election and my refusal to vote makes their vote count for more 😂It's so ridiculous honestly the logic of some of these people. I don't understand how so many grown adult Americans are legitimately adults who have been around for more than a few election cycle yet they're still so foolish to think the person who wins an election even matters that much. I mean they're all politicians at the end of the day who are like the pre-internet, proto -influencers or perhaps just adults who live in the whimsical world of adult pageants. I happen to be an Archaeologist/Anthropologist among holding other diplomas. I'm willing to put my professional reputation out on the line here and say most people with this mentality like in this video really just don't get how things work. I would also argue this is a coping strategy for Americans who don't understand why we aren't #1 and have insane levels of purchasing power like our nation has enjoyed for nearly a century. Instead of looking at geopolitics and instead of looking at global economics, they just need someone to blame. It kind of reminds me of self flagellation and Spanish/Italian Inquisitions. People are just that desperate to point the finger of blame at the situation they're in rather than doing anything reasonable or productive about it. They don't get that everyone else with a halfway decent educations regardless of political party leanings sense the same idiocracy with them as the woke people. Have a nice day badger buddy!

Same sh!t has happened to every city here in the UK. It's not just the increase in the number of homeless people that's the problem, it's how brazen (and sometimes downright hostile) they are now. Best city in USA. - Another WI resident

I feel like one big problem with social policies is it treats everyone within a certain income bracket the same. Like if someone doesn't make much money, they qualify for low income housing. Some people will be grateful and take good care of it. Some don't care at all and will destroy it. Those who will appreciate it should most definitely be helped. Those who just want to destroy can stay on the streets.
Everywhere will be California if something doesn't change which is hard because politicians get paid the same no matter what they do
Given that CA is wealthier than most nations on this planet it’s not a complete loss. Just don’t adopt those restrictive laws that prevent more housing getting built and burdensome regulations and you might be able to get the best of both worlds.

This place reminds me of Ann Arbor in Michigan. They've been pricing out the locals for almost a decade now.
Locals were the ones who voted in terrible leaders who allowed for it to happen. It's the local's fault.
There is always some ideas to deal with poverty here and many fail, I think part of the problem is a lack of big city understanding about issues. You gotta remember Madison never used to have to deal with big city problems. It was in a sweet spot of not too big not too small for a long time.
The last time I was in Wisconsin was in the early 1980s and even then, people were complaining about all the Chicago folks who were supposedly ruining the place. Madison back then was sort of a sleepy town, as I remember.
When I was much younger, I used to drive from Janesville to Madison by myself, but then it changed and I did not desire to drive there by myself anymore.
Same sh!t has happened to every city here in the UK. It's not just the increase in the number of homeless people that's the problem, it's how brazen (and sometimes downright hostile) they are now. Last time I went to my local city, I sat down on a bench to drink a bottle of water, a homeless guy appeared out of nowhere, sat down next to me and asked for a drink of it. Honestly, if he'd had a cup, I would've poured him some, but he didn't. Did he really think I was going to let some random homeless guy with rotting teeth drink out of the same bottle as me? I was already getting sick of being hassled by roaming homeless people every time I went to my local city, but this was the final straw. The only time I'm going to go back there is if I have to. I'm not going to go there for leisure anymore because there's no leisure to be had in a place that has total dogsh!t vibes.
Thanks!
Madison is a community that is generally confused. Many years of community elitism driven by comfort of stable government and UW jobs. This created an insestuious feed back loop for the community. Today, state government employment isn't what it once was and the UW system is mediocre. I have family in Sun Prairie it's about 20 mins from Madison my dad told me back in the 1980s that people go to Wisconsin became they get more Welfare.
Its true, the monthly checks were way higher than IL or MN so all the trash "moved" here (took out a fake address) to get the big welfare checks, theres never been a lack of trash willing to move a few hundred miles to scam the system more.
I'm from Wisconsin and I can confirm that Milwaukee and Madison are in deed the turds in the punch bowl.
Conspiracy Mappy is the best thing ever!!!

Thanks for the video Nick 😊
Eversince Chicago advertised employement and cheap living in certain towns of Wisconsin everything has fallen apart. Many corporations around Wisconsin experience hard times hiring people when the wages went super low. They cleared out the people from Chicago's ghetto so they could buy those buildings on the pennies turn them around to make billions. The corporate people that herded the people into cities are just waiting for these newly inhabited cities to get run down like Chicago and they will herd the people elsewhere. Buy up the buildings again for pennies and turn around for billions. Its a real business they did a documentary on long before they deployed the plan to advertise to move to Wisconsin.
i moved up here from richmond 8 yrs ago and i was impressed how low the major crime appered compared to gang ghetto richmond va..since then its gone downhill i think becuz of migration from chicago and milw now its not as brutal as richmond but the news has alot of violence robberies and murder ...still its the midwest and they tend to be chill for the most part but the drinkin culture is over the top..
Nice drone shots, Nick! Madison’s cool. Maybe not as cool as it used to be but hey. Being originally from Illinois, I loved canoeing and camping in Northern Wisconsin. Frank Lloyd Wright is from Madison that’s cool. But you’re wrong about why “we” watch you - it’s not the homeless and da hoods, it’s cuz u can be damn funny, u and your sidekick what’s-his-name, the talking map 😂.
MAPPY!!!!!!!!
Love your channel Nick. Thanks for the tour of Wisconsin’s Capital, Madison. I can’t imagine why homeless people would want to roam the streets of Madison or Milwaukee. The winters are brutally cold in Wisconsin. Without heat, people could literally freeze to death in their homes.
It WAS a wonderful place. I think that, in America, once a city exceeds 100,000 in population the place and the quality of life start to decline.
Madison population has been over 100,000 since 1950
@@paulthomas8087 100,000 isn't a concrete number. Could be more or less. My point is that at a certain threshold a city's quality of life and its unique character/vibe/specialness begin to suffer as more people move in.
wisconsin has horrible towns with 9000 people
It’s always been that way around the Capital. I bought Burgers for the homeless while running overnight security for a marathon out there many moons ago! Of course they hid the homeless while the race was going.
Madison is the Midwest Austin!, DAMN!
