I was so frustrated with Season 3 because practically every time Regina went up against Zelena, she got folded, with practically a flick of the wrist. Regina's dark magic wasn't strong enough against Zelena, but her light magic was. What does that suggest? Zelena was deeper in the dark, choosing the wrong paths constantly, but Regina was able to find people who love her, and by letting them in, she was able to love, and become a good person herself, thus the strength of her light magic. Zelena wouldn't let people in, I think she had at least a chance of finding happiness with Glenda's sisterhood, but she allowed her jealousy to take over, and it kept ruining things for her

Yeah, it came out three years before The Wizard of Oz, Disney wanted to make an Oz movie, but MGM got the rights first, ironically they were inspired by Disney to make The Wizard of Oz. A lot of Dorothy's character was inspired by Snow White and originally the wicked witch was going to be a beautiful seductive young woman like the evil queen, but they decided that a bad witch should be ugly like the old crone with the apple.
