Police Catch Him Illegally Spear Fishing & Hiding Evidence

- On May 9th, 2022, Officer Stallings from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission was notified by dispatch about an individual engaged in spearfishing near the easy jetty in Destin, Florida.
Upon reaching the location, Officer Stallings used binoculars to observe the man emerging from the water with a spear in hand, carrying what seemed to be a fish in a bucket. Upon noticing the patrol truck, the man changed his direction and concealed himself behind a cluster of large rocks.The individual received citations for not displaying a Dive Flag and fishing without a license. However, Officer Stallings proved relentless. Even after letting Austin go, he persisted in searching for the grouper, ultimately uncovering it hidden under some rocks. But the story doesn't end there. Officer Stallings obtained a search warrant for the GoPro SD Card seized during his investigation. Upon reviewing the footage, he observed the man spearing the exact same grouper found on the jetty.

Anytime I've interacted with FWP, they checked my license and we ended up talking fishing. They only catch a small percentage of the wahoos who feel that laws, limits and regulations don't apply to them. This dirtbag killed a Grouper.

Shows that man made laws are not in line with morals since these “laws” change from state to state. Yet things like “thou shall not lie, or thou shall not steal” all seem to be universal.
As someone born and raised in Hawaii, this is only half true. Only residents can fish without a license and that's only if it's saltwater fishing. Any freshwater fishing needs a license or land owners permission.

Some UA-camrs are so lazy that rather than getting the video from the proper authorities, they will just take these videos from other UA-camrs and just play them back verbatim. They let people like Donny do all the work and then they reap the benefits. That’s why they need the watermarks.

I went to Choctaw HS in Ft. Walton Beach in the 60's and 70's, Destin Pass was our go to for diving and I had an actual speargun back then and there were no issues. We never saw any F/W officers ever. Good old days...

@@nomadhues8606 i live in California, many years ago i was given a $750 ticket for fishing without a license. A friend of mine was given a similar ticket on different occasion, for lobster fishing and he was banned from fishing for 1 whole year. Now both cases i mentioned are over 10 years old.

Thank goodness FWC found the fish and got the footage from his GoPro. To those who say, "It's just one fish", ONE female grouper produces up to one and half MILLION eggs per year, so if just 1000 illegal grouper are taken per year just in Florida, (The numbers are a lot higher than 1000) but just say only 1000 per year are taken, that is removing around one and a half BILLION grouper per year from Florida waters. Not to mention the fact that grouper don't start reproducing until they're around 4 years old. And looking at that grouper I'd say she was around that age, I just hope she was able to spawn at least once before he illegally took her.
Don't forget about all the grouper that won't be born because the ones illegally killed didn't get a chance to have them. And so on for all those unborn and the offspring they would have had. It is the same mathematical calculation for human abortion. Billions upon billions that will never be born.
I hate the one fish people. There's a science to the regulations, the closures, spawning, seasons. It's not pulled from a hat. Education is paramount. If people spent time learning about the fish they're hunting, they'd understand everything you just stated above, for every species. Learning about hogfish was incredible. Never kept anymore after everything I read. ❤

All he had to say was that he was over 100' away from the jetty when he shot the fish. Which is stupid anyways that you're allowed to fish the jetty but not spearfish it. My pride in being a sportsman has always been tied to obeying the law for the good of the sport, I can not see how anyone who considers themselves as a sportsman could do any less. Protect our resourse and obey the law.

It would be super nice if you would end these videos with the current disposition of the case. This happened nearly 2 years ago so surely records are out there if he was charged, and the outcome of so, after the search warrant was executed.

While WE would all like to learn that this jerkwad diver got a hefty fine and some jail time the fact of the matter is that game law enforcement seldom results in the kind of results self respecting fishermen and hunters demand when the scofflaws are charged for illegal taking. These cases are usually processed routinely without the effort to make examples and in our current 'woke' environment since 2008 WE probably cannot hope for stiff sentences ... unless a gun is involved.
