✰ About Me ✰
My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about disability, neurodiversity and what its like living with Tourette's Syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Orthostatic Hypotension. Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition causing involuntary movements called tics.
I use my social media (TikTok, UA-cam and Instagram) to advocate and raise awareness for my conditions and show what it is like living with a disability as a neurodivergent person. I am also autistic and share my sensory struggles along with my experiences with mental health disorders.
I show what its like having a disability and the accommodations I have to help my daily life. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user showing my life using mobility aids and how chronic illness symptoms change from day to day!
I am also a musician with a popular song called "She's Mine" available on all streaming services - I wrote, produced, mixed and mastered all my songs myself! I am also an artist and a writer. I love reading and I'm currently writing a novel and a book about my life!
I must confess to being a member of an older generation who was inclined to believe that “we are all a little bit autistic” in some way. Indeed, I think I even once left a comment saying as much on one of your short videos. But you’re never too old to learn, and I thank you for clarifying the point that autism is a complex phenomenon that affects people in ways that are not always readily detectable, but significantly influences how they perceive and respond to the world around them. In other words, simply having a quirky personality does not make you autistic.
This is wonderful. From another autistic person thank you
@@SarahNeu123 You're very welcome, and thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment.
Thank you so much for acknowledging that. It is really hard to have older generations just discard your feelings, and I really appreciate you taking the time to learn more about neurodivergence.
@@Skriel Actually, before I retired a few years ago, I spent 40 years working with young offenders and in the child protection/family services field. Some of children and teenagers I worked with had diagnoses or symptoms of autism or other developmental or mental health problems. After retiring, I missed working with kids so much that I started volunteering with Big Brothers, and now spend time each week with a little guy with ADHD. I firmly believe that working with children and young people helps keep you young, both in spirit and body.
And thank you very much for your kind words. Sometimes a simple comment like yours can really make a person’s day. You know, sometimes older people have the impression that their feelings are discarded, too. Perhaps older folks and younger folks should be allies to stick up for our common interests against that large middling group in the centre.

My understanding of the “everybody is a little…” is that neurodivergent symptoms can be experienced by everyone but it is the frequency and impact on their daily life that it is considered a disorder. I remember seing a meme so where it’s like: everyone pees but if you are peeing 50 times a day then it’s obviously a problem. Love these videos xx
Exactly!!!! ❤
apologies this week was late!! i only just noticed this scheduled but it didn’t post so here you go!🙃🥲🙋🏻♀️
It's fine
It’s ok Zara
When you NEED attention and NEED to feel special you are neurodivergent. That's literally the definition. It's how gate keeping fakers try to let you know they are MORE special than you!
Its okay Zara ♥️
Thank you! ❤
I just sent this to my mum to help her understand me more because I have adhd autism and Tourette’s ❤ love you Zara your our icon
I told someone I had Tourette’s and they said “everyone has bad thoughts”
HOW WERE THEY THAT CONFUSED 😂
What 💀
what.. did they confuse intrusive/impulsive thoughts for Tourette’s or something?
Back when my was growing up, I had seizures. When I was 15, I had my third on the bus to school. When I came to, I was in the ER. My neurologist scheduled tests for me and prescribed medication for me. The dosage has changed a couple times over the years, but as of last January, 42years, NO seizures, NO side effects!!
ive just been put on the waitlist for asd and adhd!! (after therapist and family thinking i probably have both, and im now getting therapy for suspected tic disorder!!! thank u for sharing this and making so many people feel seen 🐛

Congratulations!!!! I will have a consultation with a professional in june! Hope i will be able to get an assessment
I have severe social anxiety (selective mutism) and just severe general anxiety and I’m probably autistic and you help me feel so accepted (also sorry if I act like a pick me) ❤
*PS: I would literally be so so so so happy if you could raise some awareness about selective mutism either as a part of a video or as a short I can tell you things about it if you can it would literally make my whole month (just reply if you want information!)*
Don't worry, you sound nothing like a pick me!
Yessss I knew someone with selective mutism in first grade and she wouldn’t even talk to the teacher, but there were two people in the class she would talk to and I was one of them! Other than that she just talked to her family. I would love it if people like Zara spread awareness about selective mutism! Also I sometimes go completely nonverbal for up to like 10 hours at a time so I get how frustrating it can be. It’s obviously not the same experience as selective mutism but it’s difficult when people get upset at you for not talking to them. I’m hoping one day the world will be more accepting of people like us ❤

Thank you! I got diagnosed with Autism at 16 and innattentive ADHD last week. Ive spent years trying my absolute best and still coming short of where i want to be with often even friends and family viewing me as lazy and the family joke with comments that 'we are all on the spectrum so whats your excuse '. Thank you for explaining and helping provide validation so i can begin to forgive myself and move forward!
Not really about neueodiversity but I just wanted to say thank you for your representation of the disabled community, my friend just became disabled and your channel (which I was already watching) is giving me hope ❤️❤️❤️
So true about everyone’s brain working differently. Yet many of us (myself included) have thought at times “How could someone NOT grasp that concept” or “WHY would anyone want to do it a different way when the way I do it is the easiest”. Not realizing it’s not the easiest way for everyone.
This was an interesting video. Thank you.
You are so right that autistic people can have totally different struggles and needs!! For example, I am sensory avoiding and my mom is sensory seeking and it definitely makes things difficult 😅😭 I'm not sure if you deal with misophonia, but I would love it if you made content on that - I could really use advice and you're so knowledgeable ❤
hey zara! i love your videos! you really inspire me because i have tourettes and dilexia (sorry if i cant really spell corectly its cause of my dislexia). you've inspired me to not give up on my dreams because of my conditions, i've tried suicide before, all because i thought being different, meant that you shouldn't be here, but you have tought me that being different, makes me unique, i'm me, and your you, no one can say any different, and try and change that, so thankj you so much :)
I'm really glad you're still here! In my opinion differences are what make people interesting. Everybody is different in some ways but it's harder when you feel like you don't fit in or nobody understands you. I hope you find people who you feel more comfortable with, whether online or in person.

One criteria that I feel greatly separates out us autistics from allistics are autistic meltdowns, shutdowns and burnouts: if you’re autistic, seems improbable you’ll never experience at a minimum, one of those, likely more than once. Weirdly, the DSM V doesn’t mention any of those, if I remember correctly.
There are other traits as well, that as far as I know, allistics don’t exhibit. Autistic inertia combined with a couple of the previous things I mentioned (that pushed me into them) is what led me down the unexpected path of a diagnosis in 2002 at 31.
But also, those experiences aren’t unique to autism. I have emotional episodes due to my BPD that look exactly like autistic meltdowns. I also sometimes shut down and go completely nonverbal for hours after a flashback caused by PTSD. And I will experience burnout from ADHD. While these experiences are common among those with autism, they can also present in other disorders. But I do agree that these behaviors indicate that something is different in the brain, whether it be from autism or something else.
@@MicWithTics I think that’s why meltdowns aren’t in the DSM. There are other conditions that can include meltdowns, like bipolar disorder. People with ADHD can also have meltdowns as well! Unfortunately a lot of autistic women are diagnosed with BPD or bipolar when they have autism instead! There’s a lot of symptom overlap and it’s not always easy to tell the difference. My psychiatrist said I have some weird type of bipolar even though I’ve never had a mood episode.
@@gigahorse1475 yeah I have both BPD and Bipolar. While I guess I could have autism and just be misdiagnosed, I really don’t think I am because these disorders describe me very well to the point where I hit every single one of the DSM5 criteria for BPD and can give at least 3 examples from my life of each one. So because of that, I will not seek an autism diagnosis because I think I actually do have borderline and I have the classic manic and depressive episodes of Bipolar disorder that require a mood stabilizer lol. But I 100% support anyone in my situation who thinks they might have been misdiagnosed to try and see if maybe they are autistic!
@@MicWithTics in my experience, for autistic overload scenarios, something emotional may push the bucket of buildup over the lip of it and that’s a full-on overflow.
But, sensory overload by itself can totally do it for me, for burnout/meltdowns, and shutdowns perhaps are weird themselves in running out of energy.
I’m AuDHD diagnosed, and perhaps those without sensory issues as I have can get into a purely emotional state, but a key criteria for autistic burnouts, shutdowns, meltdowns, that always needs to be remembered: they’re purely forces of nature with no component of manipulation or the ability to decide to just stop them once they get going, they just need to run their course. I don’t know enough about BPD at this time to judge about that.
Fortunately, as long as I can control my environment sufficiently well and self-regulate, and not burn my candle at all 3 ends for a prolonged period, it’d require something very extreme to push me into those states in less than a day of being stressed accordingly, though I have managed to find a toy ball with blinking LEDs that has a pattern that I could push myself into sensory overload and meltdown in perhaps minutes or less if I were non-stop subjected to that pattern. Sold at Barnes and Noble bookstores.
@@strictnonconformist7369 I most definitely cannot decide to stop any of the things I’ve mentioned. If I could, then it wouldn’t be an issue. I don’t get to choose when it happens. I don’t get to have any say in how long it lasts. BPD and Bipolar episodes are completely outside of my control. So is burnout, shutting down, and going nonverbal.
As a late diagnosed adult 28, your videos always make my day! Thanks for all the neurodivergent infos! More please :D

Hey Zara... Thanks for sharing... I'm 44 and have other diagnosis but am thinking about testing for this... A bit borderline I wear headphones or ear muffs often because of voices but have noticed lately I have a "strange" feeling with loud noises... Just share a funny story you'll think so on the spectrum... Nearly 20 years ago I was at a very big concert festival with my brother and as the band started I had to put my fingers in my ears it was like hammers in my ears... My brother didn't have to? Everyone else was enjoying the music.... We had to go to the back of the stadium far from the speakers as I was a bit shaken... We both didn't think much of it just a "moment" but yea to me looking back could of been a big sign? The whole blimmin crown dancing away and me fingers in ears not knowing up from down ha strange I've been in loud rooms since it feels strange but I'm ok with it but loud bangs even cutlery being dropped into their holders in a cafe shakes me a bit anyway... I will watch with interest... I could just be "quirky" ha thanks again!
Your explain and self advocacy skills are very good. Lots of information in this video
I've trained to be a social worker but I also have neuro-divergent diagnoses, such as Dyslexia and Asperger Syndrome (but I prefer the term Autism Spectrum Disorder). I hate when people don't understand the different between specific learning disabilities and learning disabilities. I had when some say we all have learning disabilities. A bit light how you explained autism, and traits in your video. So in part, I became a social worker to address the social injustices I witnessed in social care. Still a work in progress.
Anyway, this is the first of your videos I have viewed and I plan to watch others one you have produced
Bless you Zara
Thanks! One question though, is neurodivergense the brain just functioning differently or specifically in the way people think, react and act, especially in social circumsrances.
I don't have autism, adhd, dyslexia or any of the traditional neurodivergent conditions. I do however have a relatively mild form of cerebsl palsy, which causes my brain to work differently but only for movements and the way i perform certain tasks (naturally adaptation ive made eg. I do button up using only one hand) i doesnt affect the way i think or act really, but it does mean my brain worjs in a slightly different way, thoughts?
How would you go about setting up a presentation on neurodiversity because I'm doing a PowerPoint for my air cadets since in on the autism spectrum and I keep getting stuck on how to word it. Yay for dyslexia and autism.
But seriously, I'm curious and stuck
Can you make a Video about the most common neurodiversent yeah personllyties like Autism, Dyslexia... All the things which belongs to this topic and you explain what these in deteil are? It would be really nice At the end of the day if you Would make this Kind of Video. Myself I have Dyslexia and I would find it really cool if you can talk about it in the neurodivergent way too😊
Hi Zara! It makes me really happy that when there is a difference week/month ect ect you make videos about it! Its helping me find out a lot about myself so thank you
I think it depends. Some neurodivergent things often come with them. But I don't think having them necessarily mean so since it's usually not genetic. I'm not an expert though and I have no clue if what I said makes sense
Depression and anxiety are mental, not neurological, as far as I’m aware.
I'm not sure, all I know is that autism and ADHD aren't the only things under the umbrella of Neuro divergent, like I have misophonia, and many people don't recognize that it is under the umbrella too.

When my parents tell me that i should stop reading up on stuff cause now im starting to think im one when i know myself and need u to help me get a diagnosis plz they think that people are influencing me to believe things and it’s the same with me being LGBT and stuff also so like in both cases they hate me for just existing and trynna ask to be respected with my boundaries and all sensory overload is an issue i have but not always respected when i get it
My advice would be to gather as much research on autism as you can like study's and the dsm 5 diagnostic criteria for autism and show how they relate to you. Then show that to your parents. I've learned that if you want to get support or a diagnosis as a neurodivergent person or even with any mental health problems, you have to advocate for yourself because most of my experience is doctors and parents never believing or helping unless you can prove to them or stand your ground.
@@randomleopardcorn i have a whole like section in my journal where i record every day the things thta i did relating to ocd because i think i may have that so that could be very helpful for doctors and stuff but parents idk my mum believes i may have adhd but refuses to take me doctor for it she would rather take me doctor to see why im lgbt instead which idk where the f she be getting her ideas from but oh well
@@dailyteen2219 That's a great start! So maybe try researching those things online and gather statistics, quotes or links to studies for those particular things so you can show your parents that they're ocd things. Although if your parents think like that and from what you've said seem to want you to have conversion therapy then I guess there's no reasoning with people like that if they continue to deny evidence you show them. I'm so sorry you have to deal with your family being like that but hopefully once you're old enough you'll be able to get the help you need and get out of that situation.

i mean this doesnt say much. you have to give more details. what is the conversation like? what are her reasons for not listening to you? what are you trying to say to her by saying that you have autismo? do you listen to her? whats the purpose of the conversation? these are important considerations for making a conversation work and to find out whats really going on.

Depression itself is not neurodivergent.
@@aftereight5266 what?
No because depression is considered an illness whereas what Zara describes aren't. These are only disabilities because society forgot about us.
@@RollingOnFire okay, thank you
Defining boundaries of neurodivergent is notoriusly difficult but yes, certainly some people do group it under neurodivergent. I am no professional but if I may use my diagnosis to try explain it might be helpful. I am 58 years old. I have been diagnosed with depression, bipolar 1, ocd and cPTSD. More recently I was diagnosed as ADHD and Autistic. I have not abandoned my original diagnosies and they fall under neurodivergent. But I now think of them more as the symptoms of my autism. This is my view not a medical view and other autists may view this totally differently. But my primary goal is to emphasize that depression can certainly be included and help and research may point to a cause or reason for the deptession. Or not. Its all so personal and if you are looking into anything learn, explore and find where you fit. Only use people like me for slight clues that may lead nowhere although some creators like this young lady, provide wonderful thoughts to start, grow and complete your journey.
You’ve stated that neurodivergent is a label. And Labels are what makes the world so narrow minded
How does anyone conclude that all words of similarity have the same definition... Such definitions CAN be similar, but they're not the same.
Absolutely no condition, disability, disorder... is a label - not even close. Referring to these as labels is actually disrespectful.

I defininly understand the "arent we just a little... " I have misophonia btw, thats a disorder where certain sounds cause the sufferer to have an irrational/strong reaction to certain sounds. If you want you can search up more info on it.
but do you try to overcome that by exposing yourself to those sounds so that your body adapts and does not have reactions that are as strong anymore?
@@dreamthedream8929 exposure therapy works for things like ocd and anxiety but for a disorder like misophonia, the reaction just gets worse the longer you hear it. And I have tried and it just makes it worse, my parents also don't believe I have misophonia so I have to deal with it at home too.
@@TheStar333 but is yours not an anxiety disorder for which exposure therapy works? You mentioned strong reactions. What does that mean? Perhaps you need to combine exposure with calming medicine, maybe then your body will ease in eventually into that

Btw, autistic people don’t want the label “autism” because they feel it makes them special. It’s because it makes us feel not alone, which is the OPPOSITE of feeling special! ❤
She describes ONLY THE STEREOTYPICAL mild symptoms. She has no clue what its like to have autism. She literally doesn't struggle with socialization and thats 100 % THE MAIN PART 💀
You don't know her life, autism is different for each individual with it. She's describing HER autism, not yours. I have autism and it's not exactly the same as hers or others. At 7:50 she literally says "every single autistic person is different". Do your research before trying to bring others down or accuse her of "having no clue what it's like to have autism" or whatever
How can you tell how her social skills are when she’s just talking to the camera in the video? You aren’t a professional, so it’s your word against her doctor’s word!
And from what we know from the shorts she posts, she does struggle with socializing. You clearly haven't even watched her videos, because if you did, you would know that. It hurts me to see someone so uneducated making such accusations
(socialisation also isn't "the main part")
@@gigahorse1475 so are YOU her doctor? Didn't think so. Who are YOU to say how she feels or thinks. If you actually watched her shorts and other videos, you would know that she does talk about socializing, again, do your research or get more educated before trying to accuse someone of something 😚
This divergence run in my family. I didn't know this till I spoke with my cousins.
