I just picked up a 8KX to replace my 5K+, I'm considering the Crystal - though I still hear mixed opinions with some issues. Battery life is a huge problem to me, I really want to be able to run long stints with no worries.
I would say though, I think the wide FOV in racing is still really important to me. Besides having a massive effect on the feeling of speed you get when things are rushing by your wider peripheral view, it also really helps in wheel to wheel racing to have the awareness. Being able to see the whole dash & both mirrors, seeing a car as it dives up the inside in a corner - I have much less contact on track when I run the headset in wide vs small, though Normal I think is still absolutely fine to me.

Battery life isn’t much of an issue now. The Pimax hub keeps the hmd battery going for hours now. I haven’t even changed batteries in quite a while. That said, the horizontal pov on the Crystal is just adequate for me. I am looking forward to the 12K. Also excited to see the somnium on the market soon.
      Cheers!

I have my tracking number so hopefully I will get my Crystal in the next 3 to 5 days. When it comes to my 8K X as my daily driver if the reviews hold truth and the visuals are the best ever seen other then the Varjo I think I will take the visuals over the FOV. Just my personal preference and experience owning several different visual VR headsets.

Understand completely. VR is very much an individual experience- it's not one size fits all. How would you feel about a headset that offered 160 horizontal FOV with adjustable IPD and 35 ppd with no eye tracking or stand alone play -- and hence no XR2 chip or battery. It would be strictly a PC tethered HMD, but would offer the clarity of the Crystal across a much wider FOV. I see it as a less elaborate and less expense entrance into third generation VR. It might only appeal to simmers. Thoughts?

@@finndoessims3214 I would completely go for a 160 horizontal FOV with adjustable IPD and 35 ppd with no eye tracking or stand alone play -- and hence no XR2 chip or battery. I not only sim but also play a vast majority of different games and as a prefered wire PC guy I do 98% of everything sitting no matter what. I have only found a few games where you need to stand and that's about a 1000 VR game library but unfortunately the younger generation or semi new adopters to VR have now been spoiled with wireless VR aka Oculus, and for them its hard for them to think of being attached with a wire. I also have a motion rig, DOFREALITY H3 and the wire never bothers me but I think we are a rare breed and not only for the simmers but lazy guys like me that just likes to be in the game sitting even for 1st person shooters that I don't ever play. So to sum it up, yes being wired would would mostly appeal to simmers and the 2 to 5 % for better graphics and lazy guys like me that just enjoys sitting for everything else.
