This was a very early test, maybe I will do another test in the near future again. The crystal got so many updates and I also want to compare it again to the 8kx. Also, I got the 42ppd lenses, the image is insane, but FoV is sadly smaller
I own the 8KX DMAS and looks like the Crystal-FOV is comparable with the Pico 4 I own as well. I'm going to sell the 8KX in favour of the Pico 4 because the clarity and colour-saturation is better with the Pico with almost half the weight, but it's a tough choice and others would prefer the 8KX I guess. The FOV is even on "small" so much wider, good for sim-racing, the lenses are decent for fresnel-lenses and the pixel-density rather similar. So far nobody wants to buy the 8KX, so maybe I have to keep it. IMO the 8KX is not as good as it could be. The sound is deliberately underwhelming, but decent with more gain through Equalizer APO and PIECE plugin. I guess the colours also could be better if Pimax wanted that, but they are all thinking one headset ahead and the successor of the Crystal with smaller size and weight or bigger FOV will probably be announced rather sooner than later. I can't believe the Crystal is even 130 g heavier than the 8KX (1030 g) while Beyond, Pico and Meta showing, how compact wireless VR-headsets can be. Glass-lenses weight a little more than pancake, but not almost 600 g.
I see you're comparing the Pimax8KX vs Crystal with FOV and Visual Clarity. But, what about 🔋🪫 the Pimax8KX is hardwired into PC and doesn't require any charging. As the Pimax Crystal uses batteries so how much gaming do you actually get before needing to recharge the batteries...? Can the Pimax Crystal be Hardwired into PC to keep it powered...? Or will you have to recharged the Batteries...? 🔋 🪫
Hi! On my channel, you find some videos about the battery of the crystal. I can play for 3h and don't lose a bar, a friend of mine is playing VRchat for >8h and don't need to change battery at all. The reason the crystal has a battery is the "60G Airlink Module" ua-cam.com/video/l6Ob3HDPOns/v-deo.html this will be very awesome. Also, you can hot swap the battery, so no problem there. I like the comfort of the crystal more than 8KX.
Was ich heftig finde das du die Zeile 11 aus 5m lesen kannst. Mit der Pico3/G2 bin ich bei 2,50m-3m dann ist es aber nicht mehr möglich die Reihe 11 zu lesen 😅
This is my 3rd comment for you today, and I've kinda been working backwards, from the last one I saw, to the first one (this one) haha, but just wanted to help the algorithm a little for you and and thank you again for these 8KX comparison videos. Very much appreciated! Oh and all videos liked and subscribed. 🙂 While I'm here though, I just thought I'd ask, if you had time, it would be great to get some like for like through the lens comparison videos and/or screenshots of the 8KX vs the Crystal too. I don't think I have seen any on UA-cam videos doing this yet (someone correct me if I'm wrong), besides one or two videos/pictures from Pimax themselves, but lets be honest, you can't really trust those. If you do, perhaps you could compare a couple of dark game scenes & a couple of bright & colourful scenes. I suppose you could also try to get a couple that attempt to give us an understanding of the clarity improvement, like being able to read the dash labels in a plane on MSFS for example, but that may be asking a bit much, since you've already given us a bit of an idea of clarity difference in this video here, with the letter reading test. Anyway, just an idea mate. Thanks again for all the Crystal videos/info regardless. Cheers 👍
Thank you so much, it is very motivating to read such great comments. Honestly, the TTL Footage was always in my head and I have to figure out a way, to capture it. I have some GoPros and an Eos R6, maybe with the right settings, I will be able to made some good content. I will definitely give it a try.
Hey thanks for the vid. Something I have been thinking of since the crystal came out. With eye tracking now working I think it might be time to upgrade
Hi! Glad you liked it, feel free to contact me if you have any question. I spent so much time with the crystal, it is amazing to play with it. If you want to find out more about eye tracking, you should watch "omniwhatever" he made some great DFR content.
Interesting. So it looks like Pimax 8KX large FOV which advertised as 170 degree is actually around 140. And since the small FOV is 120, I supposed normal FOV (which is what I used) is probably around 130 degree FOV. And since the Crystal FOV is 100 degree (that's 30 degree less than what I am used to)....there is no way will be comfortable with that small FOV while playing driving simulation games. This is the reason why I am waiting for 12K.
It really is interesting, I'm loving the large FoV of the 8KX, but the E2E clarity is so much better with the crystal, so the FoV feels bigger. But I understand if you want to wait. Maybe Pimax will release some wide FoV lenses. This could be the perfect solution till 12K or something better arrive.
Today I received a message, that the Pimax experience should not be used with the crystal, so the thing is, if I use the 8kx, I usually use Pimax experience. So maybe there are some software hiccups. Because I talked to some users who only got the crystal and they don't even have FoV settings, maybe this is something which only a cures with 8xk and Crystal. I have to say, I never did a Deinstallation and re-installation because, the crystal worked right away.
Looking through your Crystal vids thanks... is the mic audio always really bad? there is a lot of background noise and pops and clicks... it's very hard on the ears, well my ears at least.
@@liebesmaennchen Thanks for the info... yeah this video was probably the worse for pops + clicks and the last I had watched. I did notice similar noises on your other videos just less overall, I also listen with my headphones on which really highlights sound issues.
@@liebesmaennchen no,there is only the normal fov,no large fov, your another video only showed potato and small. large fov is the only one not in these video.

However, the other 8kx owners said that the natural maximum fov can be 170 to 180 degrees, and said that my test is wrong Yeah, I'm very depressed
Great, let me know how you like it. The FoV of the crystal is fine, there is something with the nearly full e2e clarity. Because of the sharpness, the FoV feels bigger, don't know how to explain, but without trying the crystal, you have no idea what you are missing.

@liebesmaennchen yes i got the crystal a few days ago. To be honest i was disappointed at first but its growing on me. Very uncomfortable for me. Ton of color fringing (chrometic abberration) which was present on quest 2 also but inage was so blurry u cant see it as much but crystal being crystal clear its a lot more visible. You also need to run it 4000-5000 pixels per eye otherwise image is not that clear. So u need a 3080ti minimum but better to have 4080 or 4090. I think im gonna skip 4090. Its been out for a while. They gonna release the new cards in 3-4 months anyway
With vertical FOV what I did is i stopped when the top red dot was not visible. Then i counted how many more clicks until the bottom disappeared then undone half as many clicks. I hope it makes sense. That should be the correct vFOV its just the screen shifter down too much. Also I dont know how but I can only read the same lines on the text as the quest 2 so up to like row 8.
With the crystal I'm able to read everything. Do you need glasses? A friend of mine said he don't see the clarity of the crystal, turns out, he needed glasses to see the difference and also the sharpness in far sight
@liebesmaennchen i do have glasses but i rarely use them. I can see fairly good but i get eye strain sometimes without glasses. There isnt much difference for me in the vr.but i would lie to make a statement that it makes zero difference
