I found that so hard to believe that I then thought she might be hallucinating it all. She's telling dispatch they're walking away and for them to come back. Her having to say just didn't seem real.

You do understand that they are sending the police as soon as they understand the situation and know where to send them? In this call the police where sent after Jane Doe's first sentence.
The rest of the dispatchers questions is to gather information about the perpetrator, how the person looks like, is he armed, name etc, in case anything happens or he flees and also to gather crucial information for the police whom where sent to the scene.

It's literally their JOB to ask all the right questions, so that someone in that situation CAN stay as silent as possible while giving them the info they need for the rescue.
Imo the dispatcher should have stopped asking open ended questions and switched to yes or no questions (as much as possible). Then Jane wouldn't have needed to talk so much. Like instead of asking "where is he?" she could've asked "is he in the room with you? Is he awake?" Etc
Theyre trained to ask as many questions as possible, if anything happens itll be recorded plus most of the time it can help keep the person focused on the call rather thN ytheir stressful situation. Also they end up doing a portion of the witness or suspect interrogation before the cops even arrive. The more info the better
They do not ask the right questions though. There are 3 Questions, WHAT IS YOUR NAME, WHERE ARE YOU, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? @@DevonD1v1n3
Arguably you can have some subquestions for questions 3.
For example:
"What is your condition?"
"What does the location you are at look like?" (For officer safety, that I quite frankly do not care about in the slightest, it is THEIR JOB TO HELP the people in need, not their job to protect themselves and their breed. They chose a risky job, don't expect a victim to be a professional just so you don't get hurt doing your job. The dispatcher kept talking when the woman said "I woke him up" that is the dumbest and most ridiculous thing imaginable. She could have killed her with that decision. Absolutely ridiculous. Your dispatchers need more training and more situational awareness.
Why do people get mad a 911 operators for doing their job? Just because they’re asking questions doesn’t mean they didn’t immediately send help.
Its important to mention that if anyone says they are "moving to Mansfield Ohio to get a fresh start on life" that is absolutely a lie.
Its funny, I know people from there from the internet. They get duis for fun over in that general region. One of them told me that prison was a great place to be that straigtens you out. Its looney tunes out there in ohio lol.

The 911 call gave me anxiety with him in the same room and having to answer all those questions. I’m so glad she was able to get out, she’s so brave.

It was by the book. A book ya'll don't know, a book that got the cops to Jane in a matter of minutes, on the spot, and her out of the house. A book that saved her life, literally, even if you do not grasp it. And good that you do not. A book none of you internet keyboard experts have a place to judge.

Man, that 911 call was so intense, especially when the taser went off and he woke up. My heart sunk and I kept thinkin, "please be ok. Tell me she was able to get out and is safe". Finally hearing the cops telling her to come out was such a relief. She's a really brave woman and doing what she did saved her life and possibly lives of others since this monster was found and put away. I hope she's ok now.
The fact you can hear him snoring the whole time is so fucking nerve racking like don’t wake the monster type stuff.

But that moment of feeling like they are saved just by breaking through to the dispatcher can make them have a moment of feeling saved, which intern can cause them to slip up and lose their instincts and talking too much is one of them. Do not ever think that these demons and flesh are not on high alert ready to end your life and there's just to get away with one more fix. After all you are weak and powerless over a person who has empathy, and is malignantly pleasured by the act.
She was very good imo, she got so much info very quickly and calmly. If that’s the last heard of the person calling you need as much info as possible.

I cannot believe that "Jane" had to tell the dispatcher to tell the cops to come back. Like can you imagine them being so close to rescuing you and then they start walking away? That is BEYOND terrifying.

@@B___848 that’s the reality. When it takes minutes for officers to respond to another officer shot, it would take at least that long for citizens. Not enough officers to cover every street at all times. You can only protect yourself in the end.
Something about going to a supposed friend's house at night to play Yahtzee because you can't sleep and ending up murdered by them is so incredibly heartbreaking to me. It's such an innocent thing to try to do to find some comfort

@@ravenblue The thing is, you never could. There was never a time when humans were safe to be around. The difference is that these things weren't reported or properly investigated before. In a lot of ways, the rise of forensics, modern investigating and the true crime genre that these advancements have brought us is a sign we are moving in the right direction, bringing these stories to light and catching more perpetrators than we ever have in history.
lol he lied way too much. it was a damn abandoned house drug den and they were probably sitting there with no electricity, high and bored and busted out the yahtzee that was sitting in the old houses pile of crap. person said something that he didn't like and he snapped. he seems to hate when people act "good". he seems to think everyone is as warped as him and when they dont admit it he gets mad. he didnt jane because she was the real deal and she was able to tolerate him all that time without setting of his schizo feelings of being judged or whatever.
The interrogator is just masterful. One of the best I’ve seen. So many times I’ve seen incompetent ones. But this one is just excellent.
Yes, I love his no nonsense style. Without wasting time he collects exactly all the evidence he needs to.
You can tell his feelings towards Shawn aren't exactly friendly but he hides them perfectly.

When she said "tell them to come back" I was like what, they LEFT!? That situation was absolutely terrifying and this woman was so brave and collected the whole time. My heart goes out to her.
The police probably thought they were at the wrong house. Her sweet voice saying to come back was heart breaking. Poor lady. I hope she's doing okay these days.

@@imsotiredofthiscrap2341 honestly, the operator was only asking her questions to keep her on the line to establish she’s still with us. it upset me with all the questions given her circumstances; i don’t believe she was in a position to be holding conversation & the operator could have been more sensitive to that. given with your observation, & my own the cops didn’t take much of the information into consideration. very sad, but happy she made it with her life. a strong woman, with a brave heart of gold. i hope she gets all she can desire, & you as well! wishing you well 🧡

@@maitri4063 Yeah, but I think the operator kinda has to do that, keep the conversation going, to make sure she's still there, she's responsive, the situation isn't changing, they aren't on the move etc. At first it was weird to me when the operator asked if the house she was in was owned by the abductor, but then I thought that it probably makes indentifying him easier if he escapes before the police get there for example. A situation like that can change dramatically in seconds, so the more information the operator gets, the better, especially if it escalates or goes sideways. And the operator told her a few times that if she can't talk, she can put the phone down, just stay on the line.
That dispatch call was the most frustrating thing I have ever heard, well done to Jane Doe for staying so calm and surviving such an ordeal
There are much, much worse dispatch calls out there too... For example the teen who slowly crushed to death in his car cause dispatch thought he was playing a joke

Rebekah Leicy was my aunt. I held off listening to Shawn's confession for a long time, I never thought one of my loved ones would have had to die in such a cruel way. She's still very loved and missed every day!

I've been assaulted many times in my childhood and would rather have been killed then rather than to have to deal with the constant crushing fear that anyone around me could abduct and assault me again. My mom lives in the area and met this guy a few weeks before this happened. She said she felt bad for him and almost gave him a ride. Eternally grateful that she walked away.

@@yeah._. he walked up to her outside of her job when she was getting off work, middle of the day. Said he was walking to a city that’s like a 30 minute drive from where they were and it was hot out, and asked for a ride, said she didn’t get any weird vibes she just felt bad for him. She ended up walking back into her work to grab something and when she came back out he was walking away.
This just shows that there's a lot of people out there who may seem so innocent but deep down they have a dark side.
It's so worth pointing out that this female officer got him to fess up to crimes that were being investigated for over 10 years. And she solved 5 of them in under 24 hours. She's like a real life superhero
She reminds me of the Chris Watts polygraph interrogator who pulled a confession out of him in minutes. I think it has something to do with that feminine lack of testosterone driven ego

Hearing him mock a mentally disabled woman collecting disability while he dodged child support and was squatting in abandoned buildings is WILD!! I bet the taxpayers have to provide his kids with Medicaid and food stamps bc he refuses to work and support them.

I seriously was about to have an anxiety attack listening to the 911 calls. The girl was whispering and scared, on top of that the dispatcher kept asking questions but acted very swiftly, kudos to that. So glad she made it out. 👍
I was terrified for her. The questions from the 911 dispatcher were a little over the top for me, I understand that they need to get as much info but some of the questions that she was asking this poor girl who was trying to stay quiet I think was unnecessary, then the cops showing up and the dispatch having to tell them to come back WOW !! I know like stf up already! Maybe she thought it would keep her mind busy talking to her, having her answer questions. Then again, she gleaned a whole lot of information that may possibly have become hazier around the edges after the adrenaline wore off and her brain began to try and deal with the trauma.

It irritates me greatly that the dispatcher asks her a TON of questions without even reassuring her. I mean, girl she just told you she's been abducted, that her captor is sleeping, naked, while literally whispering. Send the damn police and shut the f*** up.
It's terrifying to imagine the fact that he could've easily woke up and just killed her just because the woman kept making her talk.
It’s not the time for comfort. It’s a do or die call, they’re only interested in getting the info to get her out. And the dispatcher said several times don’t talk if you can’t/don’t want to, Set the phone down.
The outcome of the call is what matters.
Trying to comfort someone in times like this can absolutely shatter the person and render them feeling like a helpless victim. A small scale example of that is Jane crying when the dispatcher asked if she needed an ambulance.
When someone is in a desperate situation, they don’t need comfort. They need laser focused attention to detail and for the person helping to be as emotionally stable as possible, they need a rock who can help not a mummy to cuddle.

Actually keeping the callers mind in the moment by asking questions that require them to make observations can keep them calm and reduce anxiety symptoms. It can also aid in the investigation and lead to finding her faster. The operator did great. It's absolutely insane how so many people act like they know how to do the operators job without having any experience in the job or even a related field. It's very arrogant.

I knew he had mother issues the moment he started to open up to the female investigator. She had a maternal caring tone, accepting him how only a loving mother could. and he just melted into it. Bravo to that investigator

No. Because we all know how important it is. Also the world is filled with millions of women who were abused by their fathers, sometimes even sexuaIIy. And sometimes by their mothers too. I love how you tubers who are normal people make better documentaries than huge companies with big budgets. This isn’t dramatized it’s just straight to the point and only the facts. Jane is a brave woman and I hope she’s able to heal and one day be able to think about this without overwhelming emotion but as something that happened and had passed

Same here. I was picturing myself having gone through that horrific situation/ event. She's incredibly brave & smart as well. I wouldn't call her lucky though she definitely could have been killed by the hand of that maniac if she had made other choices.

The female interrogator was incredible. She single handidly drew other murders an so much information out of him simply by being kind an compassionate.
She spoke to him so soft, like a therapist. That’s how it should be done. She gained his trust and it was easy from there. I like that

Stacy's story is heartbreaking. Trying to get her life together, her "sugar daddy" was actually just a family friend. He killed her for a lie she didn't even tell. Her poor son. I have no doubt the family friend feels so guilty for leaving her there with that murderer, even though there was nothing he could've done. The whole thing is just heartbreaking.
Unfortunately he was always going to kill her so it was never about the lies he made up.. he was just trying to justify a reason for murder for the detective.

This woman was so calm on the phone. What an amazing brave thing to have done. And needless to say that this dispatcher, I was trying to get as much detail as possible in case something went wrong before the police got there, but it was giving me so much anxiety.

At first, I was annoyed at the dispatcher for asking so many questions, then I thought if the assailant suddenly wakes up or runs away, the dispatcher already has a detailed description which will make it easier to track him.

This might have been the scariest 911 call iv ever heard in my life. Just listening to him snore like a grizzly bear was shocking she was that close having this whole conversation literally narrating everything going on from what the house looks like to its exact location!! She is so brave! And i got so excited when dispatch said patrolmen were in her location. So glad she made it out of there.
There’s a scarier one where an old lady called 911 about an intruder with a knife, the intruder found her and proceeded to stab her to death while still on call with police and you can hear her screams

As a former 911 operator, the questions that we ask are not slowing down response times. All we truly need is a location and a nature type for the call and it can be sent to the dispatchers. That can happen within seconds of the call, depending on your caller. But the questions you ask and the notes you write while you are the phone with them are crucial to the safety of your caller and the responding units! The dispatcher made her aware that if she felt uncomfortable to answer, she could be silent. We do have to ask a lot of questions that might seem unnecessary but it’s important to get as much info as possible while you can. The most important thing here is that she got out of that situation and the units are safe as well!

I think what this monster was feeling was remorse for her. This is like a game for these types and he hates himself for the things he has done. He is playing the escape scenario out in his head because he WANTS to get caught but is a coward. He is aware of his actions and wants to be stopped. So he may be lying about "allowing her to get away" but I think it is a little deeper than just that.

I live in Ashland and the cops absolutely suck here. I know from first hand experience. They kicked in my back door and destroyed it - and I had called them asking to remove a drunk person from my yard - destroying my flower beds. I told them I was coming to the door and instead of waiting 2 second for me to flip the lock - they kicked it in. They are lazy one minute, and gung no for all the wrong reasons the next minute. It’s no shock to me they messed things up here!

Even during trials she was called Jane Doe if I remember correctly bc they didnt want her to be exposed to all the press and people harassing her.
The woman that interviewed him was so kind and sympathetic. I don't know how she kept her composure. And the fact you can faintly hear her heartbeat just makes it even more unbelievable.

The first thing the bush tells him is to take your shoes off before you approach me. Bc the bush is his soul and out of respect for yourself you take your shoes off and leave your dirt at the door. Jane didn't want him in her soul but she wasn't afraid to walk with him. And he took advantage of that and my heart breaks for her and what she experienced.

That beginning call was SO stressful since I didn't know where the call would go. I was dreading the possibility of him waking up, but fortunately he didn't and Jane managed to escape

I know many victims of rape (inc myself) who don't go to the police because we know the system doesn't care about us. We're not people, we're "20 minutes of action". Going to the police will cause us more harm, anyway. Usually labeled* crazy by the rapist, and people side with the rapist because he's a "good guy".
A fear many women live with every time we step outside: the off chance we're not hyper aware for a moment we can be raped, tortured, killed, and forgotten.

Wow! This was an excellent documentary. For all the people throwing shade on the 911 dispatch operator, you obviously have no idea about how they need to nail down layout of houses, rooms in those houses, if anyone else is inside, are they armed etc. She did EXACTLY as she should have. I noticed the victim used something like the word 'from' in the context of which house it was - which side of the laundromat - her pov inside - while of course 911 is looking 'towards' from the outside to guide police. Police need to get in with as few 'surprises' as possible, for their safety and obviously for others. We've all heard of cases where someone didn't get it right, and innocent people were killed. I'll take my chances with dispatch attempting to nail down as many details down as possible.

Absolutely incorrect. She said she was abducted, asking questions that she may not know wasting time on the phone which could have made the perpetrator wake up, catch, and kill her was terrible work. Go watch all the other videos of better 911 dispatchers who when they hear someone whispering ask the few pertinent questions and handle the situation in a much safer way. Another example, the person who called 911 and asked to order a pizza and the operator caught on that they needed police and couldn't talk. What good does it do if the person dies while trying to play that insane game of 20 questions with that terribly trained operator? Finally, you talk about police needing to know details before entering safely, not in the case of a kidnapping. They have swat teams for that. In fact they routinely use no knock warrants to get in houses effectively. In this case they simply all around failed this victim.
This woman’s bravery is beyond compare. The suspense during that call was insane, not even the greatest horror movie could even hold a candle. Thank goodness those officers found her.

I can’t imagine being the person he’s demonstrating on… it’s bone chilling just thinking that his victims were in the exact same position. It’s terrifying imagining that people like this are just walking around in society. Jane had an angel by her side, that woman is so strong and so fortunate.

yeah i was saying hurry the f up police... when you need help time moves so slow, i called an ambulance for my mom who was throwing up, dizzy, sounded like she was in labor screaming randomly.. which luckily ended up being a severe vertigo attack and she was okay later/throughout the week, but waiting for them to show up you wanted to call again cause it feels so so long, feels like they don't know the address and you panic

People keep saying she's calm but she's trying to stay quiet and I can hear her silent panic. I was in a similar situation 21 years ago, I was 17. A guy I had recently met, had me come over and forced me to stay with him, and I was assaulted so so many times. I was only about 90lbs and he had a knife, I don't know if he'd have actually used it but I was too afraid to try to get away or even struggle against him. I was there with him for a few days. I kept trying to convince him to just let me leave, I wouldn't tell anyone what happened, etc. I tried to appease him and act like I was enjoying his company. I think he was on meth because he didn't sleep at all until the 3rd night, the whole time he just watched tv and ranted about crazy stuff, and occasionally would assault me, I couldn't go to the bathroom by myself, eventually he had crashed but making sure to keep his leg against me. We didn't have cell phones in those days so I had no way to call help. I waited for a long time, and I occasionally would test what would happen if I just moved and broke physical contact with him, and when I saw that he wasn't reacting or stirring, I started to move away gradually. I remember the fear of waking him up and trying to quietly leave the room, and then the mobile home we were in. I remember getting outside and just running as fast as I could, across the street was a gas station, I practically flew there. I can feel it again listening to Jane's phone call. She sounds "calm" but she has to be, even though you're reeling in terror, you really have no choice but to keep it together and stay as quiet as you can. I am glad she got out.

How the emergency dispatchers stay so calm and help the callers calm down a bit and how the investigators manage to act like friends to these monsters, I'll never know; but, thank God for them and all of the trauma they endure to help others. The responding officers and first responders and medical staff as well, who lay the friendly seeming groundwork. The crime scene staff, court staff, and jurors, too. All of the horrors these people voluntarily endure in order to make such wrong things as right as possible. They are heroes. ❤
Detective Mager needs to be paid whatever she asks for. That interrogation tactic was amazing to watch. When she started, they had a few counts of s*xual a**ault and at least one count of abduction to confessions of multiple murders, likely multiple counts of s*xual a**ault and arson. Not to mention they found multiple missing persons. It's good this guy is no longer out walking around and multiple families have closure.
