Hey thanks man that’s pretty cool! Next April/may, find a creek that flows into a bigger river and you should hopefully find some! Thanks for the comment man
I would agree with you there about Illinois. Yes I have a relationship with property owners, but some spots are public as well. It takes a little bit of leg work to find em!
@@GetTheGaffOutdoors when is the spawn? and also thanks. but what is the minimum length a bass has to be to keep it? in oregon a rainbow trout has to be 8 inches to keep it. but i dont keep if it is not 10 inches more on trout. but ya curious to size limit. not just how many one can take home. so 3 questions..... when is spawning over? how many bass can you take home i a day? what is the length they have to be to keep? thanks
@@GetTheGaffOutdoors I have a few streams like that up there. Council Hill area and like I said on the way to Lena on Stage Coach there are a couple. I absolutely slayed them on a Super Rooster tail in the early fall one year as they were fattening up before going back to the rivers. In early spring the following year I never got a bite. I think I was too early for them to be that far up before the spawn. In the Council Hill are I also caught a few Sauger. I live down in S Illinois, but my family is from Galena. As a child I would go with my Grand Father as he walked along those streams with a popper on a cane pole.
It’s a beautiful area and I love living here! A popper is my go to bait in the summer. I love watching them blow up on them! Was that on private ground if I may ask?
@@GetTheGaffOutdoors It was by a farm, but access was by a bridge. We did ask at the farm first and they didn’t care. I think they were surprised that we asked because there is so little fishing pressure there. Right under the bridge is a shallow rapids that empties into a nice pool. I think this empties into the Galena.
🎣 great video
Thanks a bunch Man! The fish did most of the work in this one ha!
It’s crazy how those pec tribs hold that many fish I’m like an hour east on the fox but this is so cool to see
It’s the most fun! Thanks for commenting!

15 incher??? LOL!!! You should of seen the one that got away, had to be a three ft. smally if it went an inch!
It’s pretty wild how big they can be in that creek. Never pulled one out bigger than 19” though. Thanks for watching!!!
Loved the video!
Thanks man! Got a couple more Creek smallies ones coming! HEADING TO THE boundary waters Thursday too 😏👌🏼
How are you getting access to these streams?? Illinois isn't typically sportsman friendly. Did you know a couple of the property owners?? Thanks.

That's a big one😂
Beauty in the eye of the beholder! Thanks for the comment and the view man 🤘 hope you’re subscribed!
Yo that's not near Joliet/New Lennox is it? Looks like a creek i fosh for smallies on.
Nope! About 2-3 hours west. I fish mostly in the northwest corner of IL. Thanks for commenting and subscribing!!!
how long does a bass have to be to allow you to keep it and take it home to eat?
Smallmouth are actually closed during the spawn here in IL. On a larger fishery usually the legal minimum is enough for me 👍

@MOUNTAINOUS usually April/May or so. I’m not sure if there is a size limit in IL but you can only keep 3 and only only after June 15
Find inlets of rushing current fish the slack water beside it monsters on patrol
Hey man quit giving away all the secrets! kidding, thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
What bait did you use?
Most of this was using a shaker head jig with half a senko. Kinda of a weed less ned rig. Thanks for commenting and being subscribed man!
Was this stream between Apple River and Lena off of Stage Coach?
Not quite. This spot doesn’t really have any relation toy eh apple river. Doesn’t hold as many big suckers/redhorse and the bass are seasonal

That makes sense! Those bites are kind of diamonds on the rough. Might have to go looking sometime!
