My Chemical Romance - Skylines and Turnstiles Lyrics

- Опубліковано 11 вер 2009
- This is yet another of my favorites of MCR(: If you guys are wondering what this song means and what it's about [ I have a feeling alot of you know ] then read this:
Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance was there on the day 9/11 happened. He watched from the side lines as the planes flew into the towers. At the time, Gerard was writing comics [ I believe ] in his parents basement though he went to NYC to get a job for comics. Seeing the effects of the Twin Towers falling down, and watching the people jump from the burning building, influenced his life to the point where he wanted to start a band. Then a week later, My Chemical Romance was formed. Gerard wrote this to express his feelings when 9/11 happened. "Skylines and Turnstiles" is the first My Chemical Romance song. Hope ya like it(:
Note: I planned to release this yesterday, since it was September 11 yesterday but couldn't so today I did(:
Enjoy!
Gerard was asking where the angel was, when he was the angel the whole time.
Oh my God 😭 he was 💝
IM CRYING
his instagram posts denies that entire sentence litterally one of them said "hi satan"
+Dani¡¡!!¡¡!! FUUUUCK
+Cynical Death What the?! Where did my comment go? Oh well, I'll just say it again. "Remember that Satan was once an angel." 😊 haha! sorry I'll stop.
a lot of mcr fans havent heard this, i realize. it makes me sad that they dont know the first song
I know it's sad. It's like my favorite song. When I first got into mcr I only liked popular songs but now I like the older ones and the less popular ones. But I still love all of their songs.
+Payton saaame
I'm a new fan. OMG this is fucking great and amazing. The first song, fucking wow
I pity them because this is a landmark for MCR and a beautiful piece of art we should all get to admire
Railin Elmeri True that.
This was the first song recorded/produced by mcr, the first lyrics they ever recorded was "you're not in this alone". The last song recorded/produced by mcr was mastas of ravenkroft, the last lyrics they ever recorded was "I'm so fucking alone".
Let that sink in...
omg
Can you not
OMG stop
StOP
What does that sink want again?
my heart goes out to all who were affected by today.
"and after all we saw, can we still reclaim our innocence?"
if I could +1 on my youtube app I would
And if the world needs something better. Lets give em one more reason NOW!
What happened
my dad died in 9/11 so i only listen to this on important days that have to deal with him so today was he and my moms anniversary

I'm sorry for your loss...we are here for you if you feel alone,💚💚💚😣😣😣
carenasadventures i'm sorry❤️
I’m sorry for your loss. Your father is a hero :)
I’m sorry
Years from now, if they decided to do a MCR reunion concert, I am definitely going to it.
same.
Even if I'm a senior citizen in I will go. If I have to go in a ambulance,I will go.
Have you heard of the Na Na Na Na theroy?
Zoee Lodge the one about the 2019 rumor? if so, then yes. hopefully its true. 😫
Yes! That was the the I was talking about. taylor way. :)

Brianda Barajas same
Hi today is 9/11
A moment of silence for all those we lost that day. For all the families that had to watch their loved ones burn along with the building. For all the people that could've had a life, but were lost in that horrible tragedy. To this day we must never forget what happened on 9/11. Rest in peace to all those we lost, march on little soldiers.
bush did 9/11
+funny_yummy shut up
Bethany Hupp ok. but he did
@@aitor.online you're a clown.
Literally Gerard sounds so fucking different now omg
You should listen to the demo on spotify he sounds super different
ok thanks!
Has he got a lisp in here or is it just the quality of the music
well, this was their first song
Actually their early work wasn't recorded in a "professional" grade studio. More like a friend's basement. On top of poor recording equipment, which gave the music a raw, garage band sort of feel (in a good way,) Gerard wasn't sober at this point in time and was a struggling alcoholic. He wasn't always sober while recording, which explains some of the slurring. He also had a terrible toothache during the recording of their first album, which made it difficult to sing. All of those are some factors that contributed to the way they sounded in their first album, but it can also be chalked up to the fact that they just evolved as musicians over time too.
this is pretty sad but the part where it`s asking where the angel is i can only image a scared mom talking on the phone crying and asking where her daughter is....
Oh shit that hit me hard
hitsyouwithabook Well shit all i can think about now is that conversation gerard put in at the beginning of his song Brother
hitsyouwithabook whelp now i'm crying
why? why say that just as i stopped crying
Can't believe I found them two years before they disbanded but those where the best two years. MCR will forever live on.
I am a bullet bringer, a revenger, a black parader and a killjoy.
Me too!
2015 aswell😥
okay okay but they’re back together
GUESS WHAT
Mcrmy at its finest :)
Gerard saw the towers fall the day after his brother’s birthday. Let that sink in.
I wanna sing this for school on 9/11, the guitar solo gives me chills every time
Go ahead try it I bet you'll do fine
LOAD_AND_KILL aww thankyou :) Im planning to do something for the talent show but idk yet
ITS YOU AGAIN OMF DJSJSNSDN I FOLLOW YOU ON WATTPAD YEAH I ALREADY TOLD YOU THAT BUT HI
OMF HI
GOD YOU'RE EVERYWHERE
Balling my eyes out listening to this song cause this band really and truly saved my fucking life as a young teen. I was bullied and tormented, not to mention my family was dysfunctional as fuck. MCR gave me hope, and a reason to believe in myself. Without them, I surely would have ODed on some kind of pills and died. When you truly feel like you're giving up on life, invest your time into the one thing that keeps you sane. This band did that for me. Forever long live MCR.
These guys also kept me alive, they still are. The great thing is the messages of their songs. Mainly I picked up 'you are not alone' my family is fucked up too, I'm bullied too. That's what's so special about this band. none of us are alone. even two years after the break up they are still saving lives, the killjoys still offer support. We are a family, we understand each other, if our families are fucked up we find comfort from the community as well as them. They are like dads or older brothers and the killjoys are like brothers and sisters and that is why we have such a bond that will never be broken.
Keep Running Killjoys and never let them take you alive.
- Running Rebel
+Nicole Russell that's true..kinda. mcr saved me but at some point it changed a bit. it changed when i realised that i can never be in a band like mcr and save others. and that got me down again. but still they keep me alive. even though i'm all alone with no friends and a familiy that bullies me
MCRmy Killjoy you may never be in a band but chances are you'll save someone's life most probably without knowing it. You're an amazing person and you have something to change the world you just have to find it
Nicole Russell but the dream of being in a band is the main reason i'm not dead. And i can't save anyone cause it just doesn't work. So yeah kinda pointless
MCRmy Killjoy just try anyway can't hurt right?
he saw the bodies falling
crippling noodles xD
rottenbrat Never.
This thread though 😂
Gerard was working at cartoon network and he saw the towers
People jumping and bodies falling
It inspired him to create my chemical romance
A kid in my class didn't even know what 9/11 was. I mean I'm in middle school so me and people my age are literally 12 but come on...
+Amy Aberrant no clue some people though.... ;--;
who doesn't know what 9/11 is? that's like not knowing what the World Wars were, or what happened to the Titanic.
+Twenty øne pilots! At the Disco dude same... But some people at my school are kinda odd... I mean I'm not really one to talk because I wear all black and look like an emo_fuck™... But... idk
***** i dont even know how that's possible. i mean flags are lowered to half mast, the news always covers it. i mean the NFL had how many things remembering 9/11 before the games started this year. i just dont know how you can not know about something that is that recent.
At my old elementary school every 9/11 police officers of our city would come and tell us about 9/11.
Twenty one years now. Hugs to all those affected
"And if the world needs something better. Let's give them one more reason now."
Exactly, and that one more reason was MCR.
15 years, I still can't wrap my head around it. This is the only day I listen to this song.
It's currently 00:07 11th September 2016. 15 years. I'd never thought I'd be writing this but here it is. Things have changed since 9/11 and I'm afraid that people are slowly forgetting about it and how many people died. If I asked someone by random at my class they probably won't know how many people died or even a brief of what happened. It was 102 minutes that changed America... No! It was 102 minutes that changed the world. So many people died and even if I don't know any of them I still mourn for them because there life was taken from them. That might not seem much but it's everything to the people that loved them and that’s enough for me. That's enough to make me want to just run to the window and scream out, ''WHY IS THE WORLD UGLY?'' I can't see the world being beautiful again. I want to. I really do.
I haven't listened to this song for a while but I ended up somehow here at midnight without realizing the date until now and it made my whole experience listening so much more sad. It was a tragic event that we should remember and the meaning in these lyrics are really powerful.
I agree completely that might've been the most tragic things ever to down in history. just thinking about this makes me cry cuz there was so many people in the building and in the planes adults and children and so many people lost their lives I wish that I could go back in time and stop that from happening.
I'm going to shove this in Ryan. Cool. But tragedies aren't exclusive to America.
I'm a Piano With the G note see the world beautifuly because of how it made our country come together and we made sure nothing like that would happen again
9/11: **Has killed thousands of people**
MCR: **Has saved even more**
A classic. I never forget how this song and also the start of MCR in general was to provide some hope after the results of the 9/11 through rock music. The energy captured in this song is a radical hope, the perfect thing needed after a catastrophe, to urge a sense of liveliness and hope in the people, that it was no time to give up, but a time to go forward even stronger than before, believing in the future even more than before. Amazing.
This is their first song .............Then Fake Your Death.....So long, and good night MCR
sparkycheese10 So long not goodnight
Mackenzie Clark I wish
Yeah I know. It's just part of the song. It's the last sentence. At least Gerard and Frank still make music.
They all are making music, Mikey's even got his own band now :)
Ray's been solo, from what I know of?
***** Yeah
So long and goodnight MCR and all the 9/11 victims
The first lyric of this song are "you're not on this alone" and this song was the first MCR song to be published and the last song to be published was "mastas of ravencroft" and the last lyric of this song were "I'm so fucking alone"
I'm not completely sure about this but if it's true this is SO EMOTIONAL AND SAD
Someone already commented this
The WAY he says "This Broken City Sky!" It's so beautiful!!!!!!
I only listen to this once a year. every year on 9/11

It's been 21 years
It’s been 20 years since 9/11 and when MCR formed. Damn
their first song
Without 9/11, we wouldn't have mcr. But because 9/11 has happened, many lost their loved ones. Maybe God gave us mcr to save people's lives.. To kind of.. Make it up for 9/11. Till this day, I still regret to say that 9/11 indeed was a tragedy and if I could sacrifice my little humble life in exchange of everyone there...I would gladly do so. A day to remember, a day to remember indeed.
If only I could +1 on the UA-cam app.
Wtf
I love how none of the reply's are about the actual comment.
"And if the world needs something better, let's give them one more reason now"
+Phanic! At the chemical poot Master we walk in single file we light our rails and punch our time rude escalators colder than a cell
Every time I hear this song I cant help but remember that fateful day. The words and metaphors in this song just hit me.
Same...I was in 4th grade when it happened but I remember it like it was yesterday: I was sitting in class when my principal came in and asked to speak to my friend. Turns out her mother was at the Pentagon when it was attacked. Thankfully she was ok, but that memory replays itself in my head a lot.
I heard out about them nearly two years ago but I had heard there name for years, I am so sad I didn't listen to them when they were still together

THEY UPLOAD A NEW VIDEO
9/23/16
20 years ago…we watched 2,977 innocent men and women lose their lives in the chorus of 1 hour and 42 minutes…
----------------------
It was a day of terror, tears & triumph. Innocent lives were taken….ordinarily people were made into heroes…and our nation changed forever. I will forever love America, it’s my land, my home that gave me life, and I never give up on making my great country a better place, no matter how f’’ked up it gets. #neverforget 🇺🇸 🦅✌️
Never forget
It's been 20 years since life changed forever. #NeverForget
I am gonna listen to this every 9-11
same
aye
I have grown up with this band my entire life. I'm 14, and I see my earliest memories revolving around my liking for these group of individuals. They'll never exit my life.
It's been 20 years.
I wish I was old enough to listen to their music and go to concerts when they were a band but I was just too young. Sad face.
I know I just turned 16 and I found them out like two years ago. I was three when they came out too.
I found them about 3 months after they broke up and I was 14. It's really unfair. I was only 2 when they started. I was so upset when I discovered they broke up.
are you still a fan after three years?
are you still a fan after three years?
are you still a fan after three years?
the first song ever wow
Does anyone else find it irionc
thousands of lifes were lost on 9/11 yet because of that a band formed that saved millions of lifes. Im not saying 9/11 was a good thing but it just goes to show everything does happen for a reason in some sick twisted way.
Coming back to this after the Orlando shooting.
"Hello Angel, tell me where are you?"
Just imagine, if 9/11 never happened this band, which has saved thousands upon thousands of lives, would not exist. This SONG would not exist.
True.... But still a horrible tragedy :(
duuuddee Wow this just made me feel better about 9/11
duuuddee Soooo, what you're saying is 9/11 was a good thing and we should thank the terrorists.
broos no its not a good thing but a good thing happened afterwards. its a horrible thing that happened but maybe some of the people who were devasted ended up finding this song and maybe made them feel a little better
I'm a fan of the band, but...what the fuck is wrong with you.
I really wish that i was born in this time period. But when this band started making music i was 1. so yea now im 13 not very many good bands like this one that I've found anyway. i was born in the wrong time period :'(((((((((
i was born in 1997, i'm proud of who i am and it's all about this band.
Ikr!!! Being born in 2000 sucks butt!!!! Now I'll never be able to see them live!!! D:
ikr!!! ya know unless they get back together
Oh my god that would be amazing!! I just now got their first CD and I'm soooo happy because bullets is like my favorite album. :3
where did you get that???
I wish I was born earlier
I love this song, Its so awesome. The true definition of My chemical romance. Your not in this alone.
Do not thank a tragedy for giving you your favorite band. People lost family, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, sons and daughters to this. Yes, without 9/11 we wouldn't have MCR but do not thank people for dying so you got a band because that is low and you definitely don't have a heart inside that cave you call a chest.
*drops mic*
I'm out
Torie Dera While I agree and wow what an ending to that rant but I feel like in the wake of this tragedy a band that ended up saving thousands of lives was born. I’d trade in MCR to not have 9/11 obviously but I feel like this is what people mean.
What happened happened, we can't change it, at least we got the best band in the world from it
Torie Dera EXACTLY
thank mcr instead, for the thousands of lives they saved that could've been lost without them.
“inside they cave you call a chest”
is in my head all the time, that scream is beautiful
20 years already but my memories from that day are still pretty vivid and fresh.
I miss MCR :'(
Me too! I wasn't even able to go see them live .-.
Edgar Cisneros They were great live. Best band I ever saw.
Rhys RK800 You dont have to miss them anymore :’)
Just one more tour, that's all I need. I swear I would let them go after that (I'd still listen to their music of course.)
It has officially been 20 years now.
This feeling when you're listening to this song translating it to your native language without any sufficient reason and suddenly realize it's 9/11...
*I'm dead.*
today is 9/11 (2015) and im listening to this song to respect gerard for experiencing this and having this sicking with him for probably the rest of his life.
so true
same
You're listening to it out of respect for Gerard who was just happening to see it?..NOT out of respect for the people whom died in 9/11. You're the worst kind of person.
+xBrowniesGhostx Oh, for crying out loud. This song is about Gerard's sense of loss after witnessing 9/11. He had no idea where to go and what to do. It destroyed something inside of him, and this song was his way of dealing with it. That is why Zayla listens, and that doesn't mean it's not respecting the victims. It's easy to think of how many people lost their lives, but if you don't understand the damage just witnessing it would do to a person, and why they deserve respect for getting through it, then no. You can't call someone out on being the 'worst kind of person.'
+xBrowniesGhostx Just chill a little bit, okay? I agree, its really stupid to listen to it out of respect for someone who only witnessed it, and not the ones who died, but its going a little too far in saying that he/she is the worst kind of person. There are definitely far worse people, like the ones who actually crashed the planes into the towers.
9/11 was definitely not a good thing.
But sometimes beauty comes from tragedy.
This was one of those times.
My Chem came from tragedy, saving many.
Hard to believe it's been twenty years.
Rest In Peace to the victims of 9/11. We'll be back here next year
I feel people who don't listen to MCR need to hear this song anyway. It's powerful man.. I'm crying and I wasn't even alive when 9/11 happened. This shows how people can turn negative events into something others can use to survive.

TheEpicLuigi9 what r the other 10
Aw, We need to reflect on what this song is about, what Gerard had witnessed, bless :)
You are so right. He was in New York on the day and he apparently actually saw people jumping out of buildings. That's something you can never erase from your mind.
Yea, it must be hard to have something like that in your mind.
Yes. It is awful what many had to witness and experience. Words can't explain what happened :-( I am not intending that only those who witnessed it had gone through an awful experience, I know that many others had experienced far, far worse.
I am just showing that those who witnessed it and survived should deserve recognition. They have to live with being mentally scarred from such awful happenings.
I'm NOT saying 9/11 is a good thing AT ALL. It wasn't. But something brilliant happened afterwards. Something that saved thousands of lives.
Yeah. 9/11 was terrible. But something great came out of it. It seems light always comes from the dark, aye?
Both of you shut up. Like, now.
+Joe Vanilla say that one more time. I dare you.
The fact that people are saying 9/11 was kinda cool because MCR formed is in fact retarded, show some respect to the people and heros who died on that day. And not make it some beautiful tragedy cus your favorite band was formed. I love MCR but the way you guys are looking at 9/11 because of it is rediculous and dare I say it retarded
+crystal115599 he has a point, don't glamorize a tragedy with MCR. Even by the original comment saying "I'm not saying it's a good thing that 9/11 happened BUT" no. glamorizing a tragedy is disrespectful to no end.
you should listen to the demo too, it's more powerful in my opinion
THEY CAME BACK MY PEOPLE, GRAB YOUR EYELINERS KILLJOYS
9/11 was a tragic event. My mother was in New York at that time. Everyone was calling their families and calling their friends to check to see if they were alive, everybody losing hope. Many things sprouted from that event, including Gerard's realization. The world needed help. People need someone to come into their lives and make a difference, and that is exactly what MCR did. This song reminds me of that day. Though I wasnt alive at that time, it was still a tragedy I hold dear in my heart, for my mother could have lost her life that day if she had followed through with what she had wanted to do. She ended up catching a cold. When MCR formed, it wasnt that big, but the only thing I care about is that they survived that tragedy and they have helped redeem people to live. Yes we lost people, but losing those people helped us find a way to save more people. They were not lost in vain. MCR saved my aunt's life, and now mine. I hope one day in the far future I can show my kids this band, and they will learn to love and except the terrible world for what it is, because to every darkness, there is a beauty. Stay strong friends.
Gerard was an intern at Cartoon Network when the Twin Towers fell and when he saw what has happened he said he needed to make a difference in the world. Thus he made Skylines and Turnstiles which has been widely recognized as MCR's first ever song.
this song really just makes me wanna actually get up and play my guitar instead of wasting time every fucking day tbh
mood
I listen to this song every year since I discovered it and I still cry every time
The first album will always be my favorite
I’m listening to this and it been 10 years I think since and I actually feel like I understand more through song than anything
This song brings me to tears everytime.
Aaaaaand Im back
"And if the world needs something better, let's give them one more reason now."
And thus, truly we were given something better; MCR
On the 18th anniversary of 9/11, I marched into school with all of my patriotic gear on. I had a drawing of the Twin Towers on my left hand, along with the saying:
“WE STAND TOGETHER”.
my great grandpa died on 9/11 😔
never got to meet him
im so sorry to hear this
rip
Im sorry
"-so I picked up the guitar and wrote skylines and turnstiles."
When awful things happen I believe they should never be forgotten just like 9/11. This song will always be my way of remembering the tragedy and those who burned in its flames. R.I.P. to those lost.
This was my favourite song 15 years ago and still is today, love the line by Frank and Gerard "inside that cave you call a chest"
20 years
I remember hearing Welcome to the Black Parade in 2013 on the way to school (it was like March or April) and thinking "Oh so this is My Chemical Romance? OhHhHhh!"
Here I am, 6 years later, listening to them.
Still.
Wow.
Welcome back MCR!!!
I'm too young to have listened to this during 9-11 but listening to this now during everything with Ukraine is like, just wow.
Same. I was born in 2010 but ive LOVED My Chemical Romance since maybe 2014-2015. MCR has helped everyone here through alot.
13 years. 13 long years. May we all take a moment to remember the tragedy that fateful day, and may those affected rest in peace. Never forget 9/11/01.
Well said, it's so deep to my heart too as I was only a week old when 9/11 happened and whenever I ask my parents about what happened that day they tell me exactly why I was doing when it happened(they were about to take me to get me registered) it is so sad to the Lives Lost on the 11th of September 2001
14 years now. Yeah, so many of us were too young to remember a world before the September 11th attacks. It's crazy thinking about how real it was when we couldn't understand any of it.
20 year anniversary of 9/11 🙏🏾
I live in the same city, Gerard was in when the tragedy happened. Although I wasn’t alive to witness it. It still makes me cry knowing the story tbh. My mom tells me stories from her pov. Truly a sad day. May the souls of those who are gone rest in peace
I truly believe, from what I've heard(and at this point, read in a book), the first song MCR had done was this one, but the first one to be ever played as a band whole was Vampires Will Never Hurt You.
i'm not even american and i listen to this song every 9/11
from all of America thank you (even the idiots are thanking you)
fabulous overcast sinner Nice username
Touka Kirishima nice green day reference
Rose Tyler it wasn't even intentional
+Touka Kirishima i just realized your username is amazing (i didn't watch tokyo ghoul but i still like her)
SO MUCH FEELS FOR THIS SONG.
This makes me so so happy, this is the song that made Mcr the one that created it. I love it, I love Mcr
Is respect of the loss of the victims of 9/11
*It's time to wake up My Chemical Romance! Come on*
Id say the two best things I got from 2020 are my open mindset and my chemical romance
i cant believe a couple beginner ppl made a song like this for the first time, damn..
I've been their fan for the past 18 years (Jesus, how the time flies! I was 14 or 15 when I heard them for the first time), always thought this and Drowning Lessons were their best songs and Bullets - their best album. but I never knew this was their first song. damn.
GEESUS FRANKIE.
I love how that dude screams
Even 5th period massacre
I have the demo of this from May Death Never Stop You, and I thought that was good. Wow. This is 32213 times better
this is the first song....this is what started it all. 10 years ago. in that attic this happened. We all have been through so much. whether your a killjoy, black parader, revenge seeker, or even a bullet. We are all family. MCR has gone so far and im very proud of them. Through times of thick and thin they were always there...always
I still remember that day like it was yesterday 😥
This was their first song, so sad to think their not together anymore, hope they come back
The prophecy states that they will be back in 2019. Coincidentally, this is the same year as the Danger Days videos (those were set in 2019). MCR WILL RETURN IN 2019 KILLJOYS!!.
@@weirdalfan124 YOU WERE FUCKING RIGHT
@@weirdalfan124 well more or less
this is probably my favourite song by them. or at least one of them.
This was their first song? That's amazing... I've been with them for as long as I could remember, but I never knew that. It reaches out to me, grabbing hold of my heart.
its sorta inspirational, knowing your not alone and music is just a huge part of my life
