the other reason you stop paying rome is that at 11pm you say 'one more turn'.. and next thing it is 2am and you have to go to bed as you have work in the morning..

  • @janant924

This guy is the only reason I reinstalled Rome: Total War.
There was a battle where I was fighting Gauls (As the Julii, predictably). I had a general (77 men) and 6 units of hastatii, versus 4 warbands, 2 Gaullic cavalry and some Gaullic skirmishers. I defeated the Gauls losing 5 men. Ther general destroyeed the javelinmen, while the hastatii hid in a forest, and the Gauls were goaded onto the javelins.
    Is anyone proud of me??

Dude one of my fondest memories was playing as the Julii on VH/VH. After I took the first two Galic settlements in quick succession the Gauls proposed a ceasefire. I sent a spy over to check out what they were doing and they were busy taking those two other rebel settlements and gathering a gigantic stack led by their faction leader for round two.
Luckily so was I! By the time they started the second Galic war I had about 1800 men to their 3800. Felt kinda epic when I won with a heroic victory by taking my Equities and smashing their right flank to create a Gaul sandwich!
    Fucking love this game!

I can relate to the guy who you didn't see for two weeks after introducing him to the game. Got so hooked when I was a junior at my university I ended up having to drop a couple classes one semester because I fell behind in them. It wasn't uncommon for my roommate to leave to be with his girlfriend for the night and come back the next morning with me still playing (unsurprisingly, my health also went to shit). My senior year I made sure to leave the game at home before I went back.
I suppose it'll be good to get a city to produce cavalry but equites....bleh!

  • @johnlogan2396

I've watched a ton of your videos and have been for ages now man, I remember back when I first played the game, learned to use rally before the charge very quickly like you do and I actually really like that you do that as well. But another thing great about the game as annoying as it can be is the AI unpredictability, like in the last battle, from my experience, the AI should have stayed in the town square until attacked or until your units moved into it but instead they charged out when you weren't ready. makes the game that much more interesting when things that "shouldn't happen" or don't usually happen just jump out like that.

  • @IronFreakV

Honestly I never think theres been such a thing as a bad TW soundtrack. Sure some have been more memorable than others but it's always been authentic and epic. Rome 1 still has the best soundtrack of the entire series though, I consider it one of the best soundtracks ever. It really gets your blood pumping.
Also would you consider doing a Rome II campaign once you're finished with this one? Would be nice to see you attempt Syracuse or Parthia (or anything really, it's always entertaining).

Trying to be better about watching commercials for content producers I like. On my end, you've been sponsored almost entirely by Sabra Hummus. So many hummus commercials...Maybe you should do like a shout-out for Sabra Hummus. your general made them break formation, you clicked too close to unit and pikeman tried to let trough general unit.
you really should click and drag position of a unit in a city.
if you just click, they go all over the place... because unit want to match center of unit with your click.
and in city you basically order them to go in to walls.
path-finding is ok, you are making it difficult.

  • @grandstrategos1144
    @grandstrategos1144 6 років тому

And I agree, auto resolve in sieges for such a large unit scale is right. Usually, the settlement is not well garrisoned, and is usually a waste of time and units. The auto resolve is usually better than playing the battle, unless the battle is not in your favor.

I love rome total war and your videos are awesome.
I think you should try using the legions (after marius) or hastati/Principe (footsoldiers) to face the hoplites and charge them from the back with cavalry. That way the risk is much less vs the reward :)
Also when your commanding general charges into an enemy it is good idea to press the horn (rally troops) just before they come into contact with the enemy so that the general himself stays behind and the bodyguard unit is in front of him = less chance of him dying.

I would say the exploit of having your men on a different side of the city not sieghing it is like sort of similar to the Trojan horse tactic of making your army hide out of sight from the city so they think a smaller force is just left. as there really is no way to do it in game the exploit allows that. so it's okay in my mind

+Jerome Holt 2 things causing it, both unfixable. the game is designed for older computers that are using single core processors and im guessing you have 4 cores. with rome 1 less cores high speeds is preferable to more cores less speed. and the other thing is that when steam picked up rome 1 it got a massive performance decrease so the only way now to get good performance is to play on disk with an older computer.
