Fredrick in this song is Fred Sonic Smith founding member and guitarist for the seminal proto punk band MC5. They married in 1980 and Fred passed in 1994 when their children where just 12 and 7 years old.
Because The Night is probably one of Patti Smiths biggest hits. Definitely want to check it out. It was written by Bruce Springsteen and was covered most recently by 10,000 Maniacs.
Correction, it was partially written by Bruce. He was struggling with what to do with the partial song and wanted to abandon it. His engineer suggested letting Patti have a crack at making it work. Bruce said 'If she can do it, she can have it." Now they both sing Patti's version of "Because The Night".
She did this one live at Rockpalazt Germany 77 or 78 which concert we saw all of on Norwegian TV back then. Well actually several shows those years. Her concert was very good. Other bands or some of them those years on those concerts are Tom Petty and heartbreakers. Zz top. Rory Gallagher, amongst many others. Good times.😈😎🇧🇻
Other Patti songs: Land; Free Money; Pissing in a River; Ask the Angels; Because the Night; Dancing Barefoot; People Have the Power; Up There Down There; Gone Again; 1959; Don’t Say Nothing; Glitter in Their Eyes; Mother Rose; Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Tears for Fears cover); April Fool
Hi Phil and Sam, here is Frank from Germany, wo requested Frederick. 😉 (My wife is from Helsinki/Finland, so we are there sometimes.) Patti is a poetess in the first place, being a singer/performer comes second. When Bob Dylan got the Nobel Prize for literature in 2017 Patti had an active role in the ceremony (can be watched at UA-cam). Many of her fans thought that she deserved the prize as much as Bob. Thank you for the reaction!
You should check out Patti Smith's "Because The Night" - written by Bruce Springsteen & Patti Smith. It was partially written by Bruce. Bruce said 'If she can do it, she can have it." Now they both sing Patti's version of "Because The Night". The 10,000 Maniacs also cover the song.
You really should check out and react to Bruve Springsteen" Prove it All Night " Phoenix 78" Amazingl live reaction vido and Bruce gave the rythym to his good freind Patti for this song
Would have thought uk group may have featured sometime. Biggest selling uk singles artists in the 70’s with 17 consecutive top 20 hits including 6 No.1s. Quiet Riot covered 2 of their No.1s, Cum on Feel the Noize and Mama We’er all crazee now. Ozzy Osbourne said singer Noddy Holder has one of the best voices in Rock and Noel Gallagher said there’d be no Oasis without Slade. Kiss also cite them as a huge influence so how about a play of either of above songs or their biggest usa hit Run Run Away…..which was in the 80’s
