One of the greatest songs written for a movie, and beautifully performed.
Great song...... Gettysburg and Gods & Generals are two great movies. Everyone should be made to watch these movies and see this tragic part of America's history. The sacrifice, the devotion on both sides, men who would fight for their beliefs, those that died and were wounded. Soldiers both white and black. The loss of life of not only military but many citizens caught in the middle. Sad to see our country headed down a similar path these days. God Bless all men who have served our nation. My father Vietnam Veteran 1970-1971. Thanks to all of you who have served in our military for protecting my freedoms.
I agree, Mike. But our society will continue to tear down statues and burn books in an attempt to change history. What an insult to those who sacrificed so much.
@showlogicprod Again... these men stood erect and walked into direct fire at close range. Nothin you or I can say can change how much courage they had.
@showlogicprod please re-read my previous reply. Show me a liberal who stood and marched into direct fire before I will ever answer you.
@showlogicprod If you knew history, or much of anything, confederate veterans are veterans of the US MILITARY. The destruction of their monuments is not only morally reprehensible, but ILLEGAL. Then, of course, you know as little of morality as of history. Oh, and I am a Vermonter.
@@rokndady It's not "our society". it's "traitors in the pay of foreigners". Nobody else could do so much damage to their own people and still say "we love our country". It's not just your country, either. There are millions of us who know better and are merely sharpening our knives for the next Day of Days.
My last sister and sibling left the earth 3 days ago and was freed from the pain and indignity of a decade long illness. Thank you Susan for being my family and friend through it all, thank you God for setting her free and taking her home, and thank you Mary Fahl for allowing me , finally, to weep.
I was a civil war reenactor and to just March the ground they did it makes you think every man gave their lives to what they believed in no matter what side I wanna thank you so much for your service and sacrifice and god bless you all
As a southerner who’s family fought snd were ravaged by this war this song seems to me is written for us ! For the south it was always for love home , our land our the stars that point us forever south ! I can not listen least I weep and grieve ! 💔💔💔💔😰
Words cannot describe how beautiful this is Mary has a gift the kind of voice from an angel you hear very rare in the music business.😢⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just wanted to tell you that the first time I heard your song was on a field trip to see this movie in theaters. As I watched the waving flags and heard this very Celtic-sounding song, I just started weeping like a fool. My friend, who was sitting beside me, gave me a weird look and I just shrugged. The movie hadn't even started, and I was already moved to tears! Thank you, Mary Fahl!
The same thing happened to me
A very beautiful woman with such amazing voice I can just put headphones on and listen to her sing all day
I never tire of hearing Mary sing this and it always make me cry a little bit.
This is the most beautiful song by the most beautiful woman....She sang it nearly a quarter century ago, but I would still love to see her sing now....
Alan Sabrosky We just saw Mary Friday night at the Roasting Room Lounge here in Bluffton SC. She sang this and many others for two hours! Great time.
At 61 she is still a great Beauty. Her husband is a very lucky man.
The flags blowing in the wind in the movie version is haunting
Most of the time I can't make it past the flags due to this song. Just shatters me.
I saw you with October Project in Minneapolis at the State Theatre when you opened for Sarah McLachlan around 1991. I didn't even know who she was at the time, I was only going to see October Project after listening to you first album. It's still one of my all time favorites.
Going Home is as heartbreaking as it is beautiful. Very haunting. This song moves me to silent tears.
I picked this song to play at my mom's funeral. She had never heard it before and when I played it she teared up. So then it was to be for my amazing mother. I'll never stop missing her.
How did your Mother “tear up” if you were at her funeral,? Was she not dead at that time,? Very confusing comment
Zombie I guess
I can't even begin to describe how majestic and powerful this song is....
God's and general's shows the heroic spirit of the south this song makes it even better
Stonewall lives on in every southern mans heart!❤
The first time I heard this amazing song and Mary's fabulous vocals I rewound a dozen times to hear again and again. I wept at the soulful sounds. The love of home and its sacred meanings. I hope to have it played at my funeral. Many thanks.
I love this song and video. I served in the Army, and this always touches my heart deeply,
Jim Gibbons Amen brother
Jim Gibbons Thank you for your service to our country.
YES, TO SERVE AMERICA IS A GREAT HONOUR. I WAS A US DIPLOMAT/FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICER FROM 1990/2007.ALEXANDER FLEMING, WASH DC/VA, APRIL 25, 2017
this piece of music touches my heart very deeply as well...and yes i did served in the AD Army as well........
to all who served, Thank, you
This movie is long but great. It's strange but we're not that far removed from this generation. My Grandad (1913-2008) knew a few civil war veterans and a few former slaves as well during his childhood in rural Alabama.
Fantastic film. Fantastic song. Fantastic woman. Fantastic voice!
Can I cry now? This is toooooo good!! 😭😭😇
What a fitting song for Gods and Generals. Jackson really who the movie is mostly about. Beautiful song.
I am from VA, this song always makes me home sick, I travel back home as often as I can.
This song and performance is so beautiful and reaches into the heart, and back into the history of this great country....and speaks of longing and resolution, and best of all, reminds me of my son Liam, and my great, great grandfather who fought in the Civil War.
I concur, this song stirs my feelings for my region of the country.I know once they tear down one symbol of history, all others will fall like dominoes
For all my historical reenacting friends all from 1980s to 2009
when I was in the service me and a friend did reenactments and we loved this movie he was killed at fort hood and this was the song we played at his funeral.
John Ramsey may God rest the soul of your comrade.
182roadwarrior Thank you so much he was an amazing man and greater friend
John Ramsey I too am a vet (OIF III and New Dawn) and have lost several. I know your pain.
182roadwarrior I am so sorry for your loss my brother (309th af) its hard to lose anyone and its harder losing someone who was more then that was family most will never know that pain and its tough to live with but still having many brothers left its a little easier
This song & video moves me beyond words, the song I need when I finally go home.
absolutely enchanting....thank you for posting this, it made my day.
I loved her ever since her work with October Project.
Love it...... from India
Like alot of people, I want this song to be played at my funeral. 🇺🇸
Magnificent song from movie. Great tribute to all soldiers who fought on both side during American Civil War
A song as beautiful as the woman who sings it.
Thank you. This is one of the songs we played for my dying infant grandson. It brought a lot of peace
sensacional...
Extraordinary song!
THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL ! WOW
2:25 I've used that line before. Let's just say, after years of heartache and searching, I found my home.
Want this played at my funeral some day
This will be played at my funeral
OMG! I've been searching for this video. i had seen this some time ago then suddenly it seemed to have been dropped from UA-cam. Thank you! :)
Amen, Raging Bull 154. God Bless to each individual who sacrificed themselves for what ever belief they held. That, is what made this great nation.
Beautiful voice
Beautiful!
Good movie but much better opening song. So beautiful I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
An amazing performance of a beautiful and evocative song.
I have broken body parts because of this movie.
The version that I can no longer replace.
Surely, it is hard to believe.
Wow!!!
Watched on my own. but inhereted the DVD from my Dad!!
Great song, it always gives me the chills
Lady Liberty singing her heart out.
Hallelujah
Mary
i wish you´d come to Europe to sing
at least we have your wonderful videos and records
this song should have won an oscar
Your voice is magical ❤️
Wonderful song.
best song ever
Beautiful woman with a soulful probing voice that pierces your heart. Such a longing in her rendering of this song. It fits what the mood would have been like for those living in that time. Randy Edelman was a fabulous composer in the two films. I can't imagine two more appropriate pieces for this historic powerhouse.
The song is so beautiful
This Lady is indeed Majestic, an the slight turn in her eye i think adds an does not subtract from that .....anybody else agree?
AWSOME Talent and song from an AWSOME movie......
I'm shocked that Going Home didn't get an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. I know that critics hated Gods and Generals but there's lots of other movies that were critically panned but still got nominated for awards in music, special effects, etc.
I was so glad to see the 3rd Arkansas Infantry flag acknowledged at the beginning of Gods and Generals while this song was playing. They were the only Arkansas regiment to fight the entire war with the Army of Northern Virginia until the surrender at Appomattox. Part of the famous Texas Brigade, General Lee’s shock troops. Only 144 of the original 1,353 soldiers of the regiment made it to Appomattox.
My grandpa was the world war 2 veteran he died in 2001 before I was born and my brother served the u.s. army during the Iraq war
The most beautiful lady with the most beautiful voice.
listening to this song with the battle flags being shown was stirring.
the reason people had problems with the movie is that they decided to make the dialogue mostly from actually letters and memoirs from historical figures it came off as Shakespearean prose.. which wore on most people who watched. but I liked it.
Sad that the English language has fallen so much that beautiful speech is criticized, and not rewarded.
I instructed my son I wanted this song at my funeral.
I have broken body parts and scars because of this song and movie.
Question me? It's yours.
A most perfect song for an incredible movie, no more needs to be said.
Such a lovely journey this song is ... and thank you for the soaring moments it causes in one's heart of hearts.
SIDE NOTE: If there's anyway to re-upload this in at least 720p (to the muddy 480p it is now) that would indeed be great. If there's a need for a 720p file, let me know -- I have the film, GODS & GENERALS on DVD that has your video.
BRAVO-!
D.A.
lovely.... the volume is really low though. i have it maxed out and your soaring voice is so soft, almost hard to hear.
The road back to the Lord and the suffering and struggle will be over.
Oooooooohhhh....So THIS is the OG music video....Respect to 2003 movie making
I driving one night pulled up long said this pickup who is that they sayed October I went the next day and brought and the CDs they had and give them out told people this singer is one of the best I have ever heard
As a die-hard Southerner, you video brings me to to tears. I bought your album on I-Tunes. Put me on your e-mail.
Oh, and I am a veteran too. USN PO1
Freiheit und Glaube!!!
I want this played at my funeral.
Not anytime soon I hope Please God 🙏🏻
Wonder what music will come out of our second civil war which may be upon us soon? And whether it will take as long for the country to heal?
When southerners watch “Gods And Generals,” they see a tragic movie about a national tragedy. When northerners watch the movie, they see a Klu Klux Klan recruitment movie; a movie that stirs the hearts of southerners who yearn for the good old days of slavery. That’s how Roger Ebert described the movie.
Roger Ebert was fool then
its the fanatic's on both sides that started the war
and it was so unnecessary
Roger must have forgotten that Northerners owned slaves too.
Roger Ebert was a Hollywood quack, he also must have not watched the movie or he would have seen Jeff Daniels part of the Movie.
When I watch it, it makes me give thanks to God for making me a Southern man.
Do you know where I can find the instrumental version of this song?
Hermosa Hembra Mary Fhal
I can't wait to leave this god-forsaken desert and Go HOME
The audio is too low
I'm a Union guy myself and do think that as things pertained to the upper echelon of the Confederate government it's pretty clear slavery was the primary issue. However, that doesn't mean that no respect should be given to the common foot soldiers who fought bravely for what they thought was freedom or that those their dead left behind don't deserve our sympathy.
2:16-2:41
I do want this played at my funeral.
Ah, yes. We meet again, 144p, my old friend.
I've always thought of Mary as having a beautiful voice...making her sexy was an interesting twist :D
An amazing song of a woman with a angel voice ❤️❤️❤️
Salute to my ancestors who fought for the Mississippi CSA, 34th Infantry,
On one hand it’s a shame Ted Turner never completed his trilogy, allowing Stephen Lang to complete the trifecta and play Lee in the last one. But on the other hand, I wouldn’t want to watch a 3 hour movie about filthy federalist bastards.
Volume is too low; couldn't hear with my little screen squeakers. Beautiful singer and song. Better volume on this movie soundtrack: ua-cam.com/video/8XtNTJhyEYo/v-deo.html
That "blinking" or "shutter" effect is really annoying.
Great song though
God Bless the South and all the lives lost.
This song is such a serious note to the War of Northern Aggression.
One white boy was telling me the confederacy was racist. I told him no the public schools were. Teachers principals janitors and mostly administrators school board members. Then I told them the stats on black success rates. He stood silent
You disgust me. You are a sick person.
@@amybooe187 truth hurts doesn’t it
Юг бессмертен....
The South will rise again - nice song
Alice Bernice Erricson Mancini I need Kleenexes to clean my car to keep faith to keep water cold can pkig in to slots never bother Manuel Betancourt
movie was very flawed and corny not like Gettysburg but it does have an awesome soundtrack, especially this
