  • Phil Roy, who describes himself as having 'half an adventurous spirit', embarks on a five-week solo kayak journey. Phil's intention is to challenge himself by paddling from the top of Talbingo Dam, onto Blowering Dam, down the Tumut River towards the Murrumbidgee River where he hopes to finish on the Murray River at Boundary Bend.
The journey was made all the more challenging with the threat of high waters due to the major flooding impacting Australia's eastern states (November 2022). Unfortunately, Phil was unable to complete what he had set out to accomplish. 'High Water' reminds us that whether things do or don't go to plan, it is simply 'having a go' and embracing the unknown that makes a journey an adventure. This is just the start of Phil's solo kayak adventure.

It’s unbelievable how close those views in the start of the trip resemble the lakes of the blue ridge mountains in the eastern US!!

A hard call to make, but the right one. Beautifully shot and shows just how extreme this summer has been.

A mighty effort despite having to call it quits early. Those portages though… I’d call them treks ! Beautifully filmed too. The drone shots were gorgeous.

Ah bugger! So many have suffered the same fate this year in all the MDB rivers, but, as they say, the river will always be there. Little comfort when you have to cut an expedition short, but nonetheless it does prove true. My own Murrumbidgee paddle was cut short this year, yet to be completed... hopefully next year 🤞

Thanks Amy! It's definitely disappointing but good things come to those who wait, fingers crossed for next year!
