Love this little car. Just to note, because, you know, pedant, MG Metro engines are 72 bhp from factory. Later unleaded ones are still quoted at 72 but really only make about 68 bhp. Standard Austin Metro 1275s only make 63 bhp.
I predicted 87bhp so that's definitely got some go about it. I'm like you Alex, life's getting some semblance of normality again and I'm not on watching UA-cam as much so I get where you're coming from. Have a great Xmas and all the best to you and yours for 2022.
Not a bad guess! I was thinking above standard power at about 80 so 92 shocked me. Yes mate life is getting busier now and unfortunately means less time in the garage for me BUT it means I get to spend more time with my Family doing the things we missed out on over the past 18months or so. I hope you have a good Christmas mate all the best!
Hi Alex . Yes , brilliant result with the engine . Regarding the mk3 speedo , my daughters stopped working and the square drive dropped into the gearbox and destroyed it ! So just be careful. We all appreciate your video's and it's down to you as to how many you manage . Thanks Alex and a Happy Christmas to you and yours . Take care.
Hi mate I have stopped using the mk3 until its fixed mate. Soon as the weather picks up I will take it to minichanics as I don't fancy messing with it 🤣 you have a good Christmas too mate!
Alex, would love to hear more about the new parts for the van that failed. Might help others from buying sub standard parts for their own projects. Cheers.
That's making some very respectable power - the SW5 is a nice mild-mannered cam so you should be getting plenty of real-world drivability to back up those numbers, rather than having to rev the living daylight out of the thing to get any performance out of it! It's good to see a realistic benchmark of what can be done with a sensibly spec'd well-built A-series. Fingers crossed for similarly positive results when I finally fit my twin carbs and get to a rolling road some time next year!
Great update Alex, nice figures but as you said Pubtalk ,drivability is what it`s all about, your not racing it so making it driver friendly on the road is the most important for me .hope you and your Family have a good Christmas Pal
I reckon if I messed about abit more I could squeeze a few more ponies out of it but honestly it drives soo well I don't want to mess with it now. Maybe I should do a build on my vans engine 👀
Nice to get the promised update, I have been curious to know the results. As you say BHP can be a little misleading in some cases so compareing the two Cooper's interms of passenger's was probably a good thing. The results though are quite respectable. BTW I loved the guy getting in and out, almost seemed to fold himself in half, 🤣 probably not intentional but it made me chuckle. I wish you a happy Christmas 🎄 Alex and your family also. We will see you next year. Nice video. 👍👍
I never had to fold in half to get in an out of a Mini but I am closer to the ground than some people, at around 165 CM or 5'5" in the old money. but still would have to bend a lot to do stuff under the bonnet.
Definitely mate people get so caught up on bhp when really the way a car performs depends on numerous factors! My mk1 would absolutely kill my mk3 in the bends even though its more powerful but that's soley down to suspension setup. You have a good Christmas too mate thanks for following along.
Yes, I have fitted a lot of new parts to my Mini and found they were not great. New rubber doughnuts all round which lasted no time at all, so replaced with 'evo' springs. Original type suspension bushes lasted equally badly, so now fitted poly bushes. New parts seem to be pot luck sometimes even though they come from the main Mini specialists.
It's running electronic ignition now mate. I can't remember the brand I changed it too. It was running points but the adaption wouldn't work with that set up so had to change it
92 bhp at the wheels that's a lot of power for a road car it's more than the original works rally cars had. At what revs. was it producing it, this has a big effect on how useable the car is on the road. By the way the cylinder nearest the radiator is number one, not four. It's a great car you're lucky to own it. Have a great Christmas.
Was 92 at the crank mate you may have missed that bit, roughly 77 at the wheels they said so standard S power at the wheels rather than the crank. I couldn't imagine 92 at the wheels! That would absolutely rip. Have a good Christmas bud!
@@classicminidetails8887 Thanks for the info. I'd have expected that you would have got a graph of the power produced plotted against rpm from the dynamometer testers. This is very useful, if not vital, information and is very meaningful.

Nice to see you back mate, cyl No1 is radiator end, just starting to get back in the garage myself, bit damp and chilly but doing a bit
Good to see you back! Looking forward to a vid on the centre speedo on your van as I’m hoping to fit a new one to my car. ☺️
I will try get that done ASAP!
Happy to see you back!

hi alex i just love your cooper s great too see you kept it original it is a credit to you hope you enjoy many years of motoring well done
Thanks mate, I just love the standard look on minis if not oem plus!
Nice update on the MK1 Alex, that's nice usable power, and thanks for the mention.....Paul 👍
Anytime mate, costs nothing to mention someone who helps you 👍
Great little engine, that! Glad it made a solid power figure 👌🏽
Sure is!
Good to get an update. A Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family. Stay Safe and Take Care.
Thanks Graham all the best to you and yours 👍
Great update, Nice to see what is happening with your Mini’s
Thanks mate
You and your Family have a great Christmas Alex another great video as always.
Thanks Vince you too mate!
Good vid..Nice power for a 1293 Alex. Southam did a great job putting that together.
Yes very good power mate from just plus 20 on the bore. The engine is very solid and pulls really well. I'd definitely use southams for a build.

Thank Alex for information, more than enough power, the cars are looking well.
Pleasure mate thankyou

Definitely going to go into depth with it mate

Definitely mate! It's very usable on the road and you wouldn't know its got a cam in it round town but when it hits 3.5k it absolutely flys!
Got a great car there! Have a great Christmas!
Thanks Andy all the best to you and your family
wishing you all the best for the new year!
That’s some nice power output 👌🏾

Definitely mate too many people want power they can't use and 90hp in a mini is plenty and faster than some modern hatch backs. Have S good one mate
Glad Paul J could give you a hand with it. I was hoping it was going to hit 100bhp.
I reckon if I messed about abit more I could squeeze a few more ponies out of it but honestly it drives soo well I don't want to mess with it now. Maybe I should do a build on my vans engine 👀

Yep it's a shame mate. Lot of us unfortunately learn the hard way
Hi Alex really love your cooper S wot an awesome little car
Thanks mate
Nice amount of power that 👍
nice little unit there for sure.
horsepower sells engines, torque wins races👍
That it.
That's it!
Sorry to ask you 😃 you for Poland?
Perfect power
Hi Alex, great video, what is the ignition set up on your cooper? Your cars are a credit to you !!
Well done,
John from Southport

@@classicminidetails8887 Thanks, I must pay more attention in future. I'd still like to know at what revs that power was produced, if you know that.
Think the sw5 makes most of its power at 6k rpm. It will rev to just under 7 but you can feel it fade at 6.5k so no point reving the tits off it 🤣

@@classicminidetails8887 177hp at the wheels is an absolute blast mate 😁
Bet you that like mini is a flying machine with 90bhp👌
Goes really well mate! Tops out about 115 in Mexico 🤣
I love you video
did he walk to sit down on the bench for the intro?
Tactless, inappropriate, moronic comment.
I think William has been watching far too much of Matt Lucas and David Walliams. That's fiction you know.
dude and then you do not show the dyno graph LOL 96hp my ass :D
Never said 96.... Listen to the video. You continue to ride your moped mate.
@@classicminidetails8887 ride is that what you call it.
Lovely car.. do you have Instagram?
Yes mate @alextoon94
