In hydraulic steering it is not a motor but a hydraulic pump that assists the mechanical movement. Whereas in electric a dc motor is the prime mover and steering movement is only for signal.
Hence electric steering is very light and easy to operate.
But hydraulic assisted ones gives more real pleasure of driving.
Hyudraulic pump also contains a motor to pump the fluid

Tata Harrier has Hydraulic power steering while Hyundai creta using electronic steering wheel. Tata Harrier is heavy SUV Compare to Creta.😎
imagine calling a crossover an SUV, the harrier is no where near as heavy as a chevy captiva.
Tata should bring electronic power steering.

hi.. I am not satisfied with the working of hydraulic power steering of my Outlander it's quite difficult to maneuver.. Can I convert it to a eps.. If yes what would be the cost involved

The engine belt runs hydraulic steering so hydraulic are hard to steer at low engine speeds wer as electric steering always gives the same performance becoz it runs on electricity. If given a choice of hydraulic vs electric Dan go for electric. At present only Ford cars are the best in electric. Even though Hyundai has it der is like a tonne difference and it feels like hydraulic only . If u have big tyres Dan go for electric steering as dey require more work to be done while taking turn . Going for SUV and mpv and cuv segment wid big tyres Dan go for electric becoz in hydraulic at low engine speed u will nt get complete hydraulic assist bt in electric u will get 24/7assist
hydraulic steering does not depend on fluctuating rpm, and hydraulic has better feel and feedback

Sir, i have a query.
I own a TATA harrier car, it is having a hydraulic steering system. My car whenever i turn it makes whinning sounds and it increases as i turn it more. I contacted TATA customer support for this, they told me this is a feature of hydraulic steering system. Sir, i want to know is that true? do all cars with hydraulic steering make such sounds. Is it a product feature as TATA is saying?

Its the pump which is whining, you can check for air in the steering fluid, air can cause whining, but slight noise will be there so you can ignore it.
Sir, I have swift dzire 2016 vxi car. Twice within a span of 4 months my car steering got very hard while getting forward from standstill position. On both occasions I switched off the car and started again and had no problem in steering. Will it get hard in full speed? What could be the cause of the steering getting harder? Please reply
