    • Glass Fusing With Quik...
    (I'm having a problem getting an active link... copy and paste or tell me what I'm doing wrong! LOL!)
    She did some really nice things and got beautiful results. After this quick experiment I went on to other things and when I came back to my jar of goo, it was hardened. I put the top on tight but I should have stored it more carefully. Just a heads up for those who try this, use it up promptly. My closing remark is yep, it really works! I just did this quick experiment for those who were curious so I didn't fully explore the possibilities. Yes, there are some compatibility issues and I had some minor cracking of the glass over time. Use at your own risk, educate yourself and always be aware of the science of COE :-)
    Edit: LOL! Chill, y'all. No, it does not contain lead, it would melt and burn up if there was even a little lead in it. Yes, it's perfectly fine to use metal INSIDE the KILN in the microwave. The kiln interior is also a metallic compound. Eh, there could be some very minimal fumes but since this is a HIGH HEAT compound they are minimal and good studio practice includes a safe ventilation system of course.
    ***********************
    First experiment with "Quik Steel" metal repair compound. I used it to cast charms which were then fused in glass using a small microwave kiln.

    I just ran across this, I had shared a video on using it. I wonder if it’s mine you saw! I need to play with it again. Cool experiment! I started with a microwave kiln. Then fell full on into the rabbit hole…. 😀

      Thank you so much for touching base with me here and YES!!! I never did find it again back then! Now I need to buy a new jar of goo and try again, watching your video, now I remember WHY I wanted to play with the stuff. LOL! I edited the description to credit you and added a link but for some reason I can't make the link active. Maybe it will be when I check on the app instead of on the computer. Thanks again for the inspiration to play!

      @@ravennorejko4492 you’re very welcome! I need to play with this stuff again, I have a couple of unopened jars but they’re pretty old. Now you’ve also inspired me to revisit this! 😀

    Thank you for a great video - I appreciate it very much. Could you please tell me if there's a way to stack separate pieces? Any tiny shelves for a microwave kiln? Is this a terrible idea? Thanks again.

      There really isn't vertical space but fusing is so much faster in the MWK, it's not really needed. The best thing is to buy multiple kilns so while one cools, you are working on the next.

    Is this metal full of lead.?

    How about sandwiching the objects between two pieces of clear class?

    • @ravennorejko4492
      @ravennorejko4492  3 роки тому

      The COE is too different and the glass will break around it. Even putting them in the surface is "iffy" and a few of the pieces I did a couple years ago did eventually crack just sitting on the shelf.

    be cautious using this in a microwave. what is being released when it's processing?

      Proper ventilation is needed in all fusing procedures because of elements offgassing from the glass itself.

      I've had it for maybe ten years, I don't remember where it came from but I think it might have been marketed for polymer clay so maybe looking for molds branded for the poly-clay brands might come up with it. If I run across it or remember where it came from I will comment again. EDIT: I think it was marketed for Fuseworks "Polar Fuse" glass fusing molds.

      Silicone molds can be found in all craft stores or mail order from Amazon, Walmart, etc.
