I know right! Only just found out about this. I went through a stage of collecting loads of sea glass and thought I dunno what to do with it. Now I know!
Matt it makes me so glad to see how many others have to keep trying new stuff! You really do need to add water when you grind glass or rocks. Wear a mask when you grind the antlers too! My dad was bad not to wear a mask for everything but when he cut antler pieces for me.
Just a suggestion, but you might try a flap wheel sander to smooth your fused glass pieces, either in a drill press or your Dremel. I pour epoxy resin pieces and use my Dremel to smooth edges. Love your work! Heading to Amazon next to check out microwave kiln!! Thanks for sharing!
Matt, does this process create any kind of fumes? I have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities), and have to forgo most things because of it. It looks like so much fun. Thanks.
No fumes that I have seen so far. No odors, no smoke, not even a smell when taking the top off while it's still hot. If you want to be on the extra safe side, simply open a window and turn on a light fan near the microwave, in case their are very mild scents that I didn't detect.
Very cool! My next purchase will definitely be a microwave kiln!!
Never even knew that they had such a thing as a microwaveable kiln. How flippin cool is that🤯🤯🤚🤚❤❤
ME EITHER - color me equally amazed - thanks Matt!!

I'd suggest using a teaspoon to place the broken pieces of glass instead of fingers! I keep one on my work table to pick up beads.
You should add a water wash on your sanding belt to help the belt do stone and glass safely.
Also you need to make sure you have compatible glass.
Do you think there is some way to form a frame to put the pieces in so that it melts into a circle/oval/square?
I thought about it by bunching up or layering the kiln paper. Not sure. Might try it.

use a teaspoon or something when you sprinkle glass, you wont get any in your hands or stuck in the gloves
