I think is a universal constant... these types HATE to be ignored.
Drives them absolutely CRAZY... and then they do something foolish.
I'd go back there and continue fishing... because we all know he's gonna come back out.
Just silently fish... with a camera recording everything.
Best case scenario is he accepts that you have a right to be on the water... and stops harassing you.
The worst case scenario is he doesn't... and you have a case to charge him with assault.
And then sue him in civil court (AKA a big settlement... lots of $$$).

I'm sure he's aware of the law and that he's breaking the law. He was badgering me for a bit prior to me turning on the camera. I was ignoring him for some time without saying a word. He's got enough money that he can buy his way into and out of problems. Problems like him harassing fishermen, laying down logs around his property in the lake with huge chains which is likely a violation of ecology statutes and it is questionable if his deck is up to code as well.

He does not own the outstretch into the water. I went to the Washington state accessors website and searched "75 Skagit Key, Bellevue, WA 98006" which is his property. The property line stops at his back yard.

It def looks like the property lines run into the riparian way and in reference to the last comment left your property line can extend into the waterway. The thing to look for is the actual apn map as you searched. The zoning type maps may not show all property lines. Funny side note: There are parcels for sale, underwater, at the edge of the San Francisco bay. Subdivided land.

Not only that, but the '40th Street boat ramp' and a marina are directly behind the fisherman, with probably 100 boats there.

But I don't suspect a paddleboarder would bother me unless they got inside 10 yards a lot of times. Mostly to steer clear of lines that rise out of the water if a fish strikes as you are passing by. Then you can get tangled in the line. Also you want to avoid hooks in your body. I have had swimmers completely ignore the fact my hooks were within feet of them before. I figured after my warnings that if they got hooked I'd just scold them and cut my line if that happened again. Completely ignoring my repeated warnings

@@borbonic Thanks. I always stay clear of obvious things like lines in the water. I was thinking more of how my surface activity might chase away fish under the water. I think 20 yards is reasonable, even more in open water. The only time it gets to be a problem is when I might be coming into or moving away from shore where I don't have as much choice in my path.

@@rdyer8764 if you're near shore just let them know you need to pass by. Normal humans with any sense of understanding would be just fine with that situation

Why would the guy care about someone in a boat fishing?

It's obviously some kind of mental illness. Think about it. This is not normal behavior. This is Nutty Karen schiatt.

People see someone having a harmless good time and enjoying themselves but are so miserable that they take joy in dragging those people down to their level of misery.

If you look on google earth the logs behind the guy have been placed there to keep you out. if you look through past satellite images they were put there in 2013 or 2014. He must really hate that his daddy never took him fishing.

Yep, this nutcase tried to reserve a chunk of a PUBLIC LAKE for himself... no doubt he never even uses the water for anything, but just wanted to gain control over it.

In Washington State, you pay taxes on the size of your lot and the structures on it. Why would people with the means to challenge the county, pay taxes on land underwater in the lake? The property line should stop at the shore, I would think.

Generally speaking, you're allowed to fish a public lake or river up to the high water line, regardless of any so-called 'property'. There might be some states with exceptions.

You should keep photo copies of the law with you in the boat and hand them out to know it all smartasses as needed.😅

Looks like a epic place for bass fishing , wish i was out there myself. When fishing large mouth , my favorite plastics to use is trout colored jigs. Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised that guy was giving you a hard time?

Yeah I think that guy really believes he is correct in confronting me. Even though he's wrong and has been told so. I was ignoring him for a while before I turned on the camera. If he wouldn't have continued pestering me, I would have probably left within a few minutes. Anyway, look to do some more bass fishing on the lake soon. I do like using jigs for bass too.
