My question would be the legality of the guys dock being beyond his property line. I would say he doesn't own the dock either. Anyone know the rules of that?
What is the penalty for violations of RCW 77.15.210?
@ShenpaiWasTaken Washington state, the penalty for a gross misdemeanor is up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $5,000
Salmonids pick up vibration on their lateral lines those flashers create that much like a lure only more so. I am not here to argue for them one way or another i just know i run three rods off my boat and i usually pick up more fish with a flasher than without. Now i do like to mooch in some areas shallow water near the kelp beds and i just run my weight and cutplug there. Im for them.
We usually run four rods at a time for Chinook and Coho trolling. We'll start with two on flashers and two naked. Then we switch to whichever is getting bit. The majority of the time but not always, its the flasher rig.
The only time I can outfish a flasher is with naked bait. If you're using a lure, it just works better with a 360 flasher
Good for you! I’ve said this for years! 😊👍🏻
I've always felt the same way about flashers.society acts like fish just stopped bitting anything else once flasher became popular lmao
Fish seem to bite just fine without them. I don't think they got the memo 👍
I’m a commercial fisherman here. If i don’t catch salmon my bills don’t get paid. I use flashers and so do all the other boats in the commercial fleet. We catch millions of salmon every year with flashers. Look up the numbers. Alaska power trolling…. Facts
A net is more efficient. Facts
@ The regulations make sure we are not too efficient. I have a net permit as well but far more king salmon are taken by commercial trolling than in nets.
But people do catch fish, and tons of them, using flashers. Why are you whining about someones preference...?
Triggered. Hey man use whatever you want.
360 flashers accomplish three things. 1. Salmon are competitive, so imitating a feeding salmon accomplishes this. 2. Salmon feed mostly by sight, so anything that help attract them is a plus. 3. A 360 flasher tells the fisherman how fast to troll. Buying different fishing gear is always fun. Expensive, but fun.
Main reason people use flashers is to cover more water to find the fish. People that don't understand that and only stick to one method are the dumb asses.
@@nathanial82 flashers don't cover water. Boats do
@@borbonic Whah? ok
@nathanial82 nobody can prove they attract fish. It's just a theory. My opposing theory is just as solid and since there's no scientific proof, I'm right on my boat and I save money and get less snags in the vegetation
@@borbonic Yeah I suppose if I was a kayak cult follower I would be anti power boat/flasher too.
@@borbonic You should watch some footage of underwater salmon strikes using flashers. It's very obvious that salmon are attracted and curious to the vibration and flash which triggers the instinctive salmon strike.
"Don't get argumentative" posts video titled "stupid people use flashers" ok buddy. Just slammed that "dont show content from this channel" button
You act like you paid me money and I owed you something. If you can't form and argument and just get angry it might be tourrett syndrome
I read both your comments and my opinion is you should get some sleep
Critically Spoken and a familiar tone. I lived in Astoria for a while where everyone under 60 is using a dodger especially on the bar both spring sockeye and summer. If you are in the salad for a while and can do well without it and smooth out your presentation as I have done in Coos Bay, but not effective except in the most favorable circumstance in my experience. My hometown in The Sierra Nevada near Truckee we have a unique subgroup of Kokanee. They only come up a short period in late spring and early fall and the rest of the year below 80 feet in Donner Lake in the clearest water it still gets dark and that dodger won’t move enough and a small flasher and moving faster is ideal. I’m with the stupid people.
That's OK. I use dodgers on the sockeye, as I stated in the video. Nice places you are fishing. Best of luck to you
I didn’t see you catch a salmon with flasher less hoochies. You’re in a kayak. Let’s hear from a commercial angler
I did not see you catch anything.
See my above reply. He doesn’t have a clue what’s actually going on with the commercial fleet or the number of fish we take.
@@Glaciershark yes
@Glaciershark I do seminars for commercial fishing on Wednesday. Bring a pen and paper to take notes. You'll learn how to catch more fish 😂👍👍😎
@ 🙄
When I think of a flasher I think of a hotspot or protroll. I would call what you were showing a rotator. Nice fish Ray!
They're all about the same to me. I do use them but not too often. They hang on vegetables too. Thanks and best of luck to you fishing in 2025
In big water they do their job. I'm small water ( upper tidewater ) I don't think it matters other that 360s actionizing your spinner. One thing I like about 360s is when you are fishing around alot of people using them, and you hook up, I think the seals get distracted by the other flashers. We used a flasher to distract a seal while we unhooked a wilde coho . My buddy dropped his 360 over the other side and jigged it while I delt with my fish. The seal went looking for his flashers. But chinook in tighter water - 6' leader and cut plug herring is all you need.
When it comes down to it, if you're catching fish and having fun, I'm cool with that. Tight lines and keep it safe 👍
I use flashers with lures that do not otherwise have any action, specifically hoochies. For many lures, I don't think you necessarily need a flasher or a dodger. But, I can't really see that there is a debate on whether or not they work. I've fished for salmon for almost 20 years and have done very well with dodgers/flashers. If you're using a jig or a big spoon, you don't really need a flasher. But, I also don't think they hurt anything. You have an interesting perspective. I'm not sure I agree with everything, but I agree with some of it.
The also get hung up in vegetation. I'm definitely unorthodox but I'm not alone. I suppose if you're bringing in the bacon and having a good time then that's all that matters 👍
@@borbonic One other thing, I have gone gone to using breakaways on my dodgers. They have been very impressive with a lot more hookups than conventional rigging. I fish mostly open ocean for salmon though. I'm not in rivers or estuaries.
If you're usingca lure like a spinner, you absolutely need a 360 to impart more action. Especially in fresh water. Salmon habits change when they get out of salt. This entire video looks to be filmed in salt water.
People use flashers because they work… caught 40+ coho before 2 trolling a 360 this fall. Pretty hard to argue those numbers…
Yes and not using a flasher works too. So You wasted money and I didn't
@ did you catch 40+ by 2? The point is flashers are the most effective way to troll for salmon. So basically I out fished you and probably had more fun doing it. Therefore a 20$ flasher is a win😂
@isaacblodgett2941 I was catching limits before you were swimming around in your dad's balls man bun. I did southeast alaska solo on my kayak + camping off grid and would catch 40 fish in an afternoon for three weeks straight. You're in Romper Room glory. You wouldn't last a day without your tampons
@ man bun? Tampons? Your insults are pathetic 😂 my point was a flasher isn’t a waste of money if it produces lots of fish and you had to get that bent out of shape? Good lord that’s sad.
Wrong
Yep, you're wrong. Sayonara
So where are you're facts that prove flashers and dodgers don't help you catch more fish?
You could probably ask to check his catch card next time you see him
There are no facts to prove it either way, I said that in the video. I'd write it out for you but you probably have a hard time with that too
@@stephenjensen93 It's right there between my fingers
Great report! Another huge mistake people make when fishing for silvers and chinook in the sound is, PICK UP YOUR SPEED!! Salmon isn't Trout! If you're catching Dogfish while trolling, you're going to slow. There's a reason all the Charter boats in Marine area 8-1 through 10 are passing you guys. I suggest 3.2 - 3.7 MPH. Just a thought.
I heard that some people cook dogfish. I wonder if it can be deep fried. Hmm.

Hi, Ray. Do you still like your Hero 13? I was using an Insta360 X3, but I lost it kayaking in the Fremont cut last weekend when the selfie stick 1/4-20 mount came unglued and dropped the camera in the water. Now I am debating on getting the X4 or trying a regular action cam for a while. I'd consider the Max 2 if it was out...
@@ShadRich I still have it. I also have the dji osmo action 5. Between the 2 I'm thinking I use the dji more because of the longer battery life. You may want to look at it. The only thing against it is sometimes the blue colors of the sky look cartoon like. But the Gopro currently has that extra wide lens making shots right next to the kayak easier for me to capture.
@@borbonic Thanks! I will price out the DJI for comparison. Battery time is not usually an issue, since I typically use the fish finder battery for external power and a 512GB SD card. I let the camera run while I am out and edit down to interesting footage. The downside of external power is that I do not take underwater footage like you sometimes do. Happy fishing in 2025!
@ShadRich the 360 cameras are neat for the kayak but I wasn't impressed with basically 2.7k of the X3. Now that the x4 is out it is more interesting. However I usually don't have much issue just aiming my camera. If I was filming more shallow water bass action then I probably would have got the x4. The 360 camera wasn't practical for a tree stand deer hunt either. Maybe if you like the mount it to a permanent location option then the upgrade to x4 is better..
@@borbonic Yeah, I am thinking I will try the Hero 13 Ultra Wide with the Contacto for external power. Then I'll consider the Max 2 for 360 when it comes out. Plus, I'd prefer not to give Insta360 more money since their selfie stick fell apart and caused the camera loss after just over a year of occasional use.
@ShadRich the contacto is very useful. I shot some 12 hour night lapses with it. Definitely a great innovation
I would simply tell him that nature, hunting and fishing is for every resident of the state to enjoy. If it’s a public lake, he does not own the fish inside of it. Every one does.
I'll probably make a breakdown video of the regulations and laws that permit me to fish in front of his walking deck to inform others. This guy is simply territorial. He even complained to UA-cam in order to get my video removed. Prior to me turning on the camera he was getting extremely testy. As soon as I informed him that he was being filmed he backed off slightly. This guy was just trying to pester me to go away. It turns out he's a well known local banker and attorney. Imfamous for losing millions of dollars in client investments.

I just stumbled upon your channel a few weeks ago. Thank you for posting all these tips about how to fish and where to fish! I just got a kayak in 2021 and have been trying to figure out smallmouth fishing in the Seattle area the last 2 years with a little bit of luck (but mostly frustration). Can't wait to take all your knowledge and hit Lake Washington and Lake Tapps come May 2025! 1 question: you seem to usually use crankbaits, what about soft plastics? Are they as effective? Or are crankbaits the way to go in Lake Washington/Tapps?
Plastics work for sure. Smallmouth move around the lake a lot more than largemouth. Therefore to cover more water I use a crankbait or other lure to cover more water. Largemouth tend to prefer slow or no water movement and mostly shallower water. For Smallmouth I found better success looking for drop offs or structure in water depths of 10-35 feet. I always like to find weeds when weeds form on a lake. In Washington that's typically between June and November. Outside of that range they die off but I still find fish at the same depths as mentioned above. As for crankbaits they rattle and wobble. That attracts attention of fish quite well. Including other species like perch for example. Then bass see that and hit it. But it's important to note I can catch a ton of bass on spoons which are a lot more subtle. Good luck.
nice video!
