I’ve been living in NY for 14 years all you need to do is not talk, have headphones on, never buy water dogs, and stay in Queens/Brooklyn cause Manhattan is cancer and Bronx is a dumpster fire
Bronx,Brooklyn are shitholes. Manhattan is alright depending where but can be a crowded hell hole. Queens looks decent. Idk about Staten Island. Tbh Manhattan is the best option.
I’m from the south, and when my grandma went to a bar in NYC, she kept saying “please”, and “thank you”, the bartender said, “We don’t say ‘thank you’ here, sweethahrt.”
.... yeah that's accurate. idk about bars since i don't drink but pretty much everywhere else you don't need to say thanks, even though in my family we were basically trained from birth to say thanks.

as a person born and raised all life in nyc..... this is true...... to a extent. there's people that are donkey buttholes and a genuine amount of people that are actually caring, which still shocks me at times, the biggest tip for living in nyc is: take care of yourself
I live in NYC and it's true😂 I go outside of NYC and someone says good morning and smiles I'm like 'wtf why are you being nice' If you talk to someone who doesn't know they look at you like your nuts
I’ve seen tourists taking pictures of a legit plague rat. THAT SHIT WAS BLEEDING EVERYWHERE AND THESE PEEPS WERE LIKE “o wow I feel so ghetto lemme take some souvenir photos.” NY, man. That shit crazy.
I remember when I went to NY a lady forgot her makeup purse in the subway so my mom took it and told us to wait at the next station in case she came back to search for it. She did, and she gave us 20 bucks just for giving it back. We were just there trying to do some good and we were compensated with 20 bucks, I liked my 2 day stay in NY.
I remember I had a guy try to sell me a cd when I was waiting for a crosswalk light to turn. Usually I just ignore these people and keep walking, but I was unfortunately stationary at the moment and with my anxiety being high already I ended up feeling the need to reply to him. I said very simply while not looking at him, "I don't have a cd player, no one has those anymore bro." I felt pretty good that although I shouldn't have replied in the first place, it was a reply that totally shut down his efforts. The dude however surprised me, looking me up and down and then saying after a few moments, "You got a date for Valentine's this year Honey?" And then the crosswalk light changed and I made sure I did not look the fuck back.
Can confirm. Nyc changed me in both a bad way and a good way. Bad: more impatient at stores and markets, unintentionally "rude" at times, sidewalk rage Good: always down to help a stranger, less shy interacting with strangers, public transport is no longer weird/scary to me, better sense of direction
Oh.... This video explains a lot. My mom and uncles grew up in new York. Now I grew up in the middle East. And their stuff my mom would say that most people would consider rude. This confused my mom. Because saying these things in new york is apparently normal. No wonder my dad hates new york Also I've visited new york for about 4 months....gotta say. Interesting experience.. can't count the number of times people judged me on what I was wearing or how I looked, the biggest problem is that I ONLY STAYED THEIR FOR 4 MONTHS.
As a New York native myself (I'm from Queens by the way), I've always been curious about how people from other cities/towns view living in NYC. It's not as bad as many stereotypes make it seem. But if there's anything I can agree on, living here can really test you when it comes to being assertive and trusting the people around you. Great video!
To be fair, as a New Yorker myself, most of what you said and how you handled it was pretty accurate, but one important thing to not forget is that when push comes to shove, if a New Yorker sees you getting harassed by some one, they'll do anything in their power to save you. When I say harass, I don't mean the guy trying to sell you his mix tape. I mean trying to basically soft rob you (aka purposefully stopping you from going anywhere till you give them money). In that situation, any NY rudeness goes out the window to help you from being robbed. Like, you remember in Sam Rami Spider man 1 when all the New Yorkers on the bridge throws random objects at the Green Goblin to save spider man, well its similar to that.
He has one of the best and original personalities. The bigger animators are boring and their public is directed to 8 year olds. Its boring and cringy. Their stories consist on how they behaved bad in kindergarten when they didn't draw something or so. Its stupid. This channel is basically the only teen oriented, it could be better if it was more adult oriented cuz he would have more audience. But still one of the best ones and less cringe or boring.
TJ Toons Nope! NYC Desensitises you, you'll realise that once they know you're not from here, they'll use you. The Homeless are usually normies in disguise and rarely would you actually see an actual Hobo. Do anything weird and they'll see you as a street performer.
