Reminds me of early elementary public school lunch. Sometimes the bag looked better than the lunch. Good lunch, peanut butter and jelly, applesauce, milk and cookie. Bad lunch corned beef, beets, milk, peach mush. I look back and I would gladly eat either one.

Boiling water to make instant food, almost puking at the smell of bread, eating peanut butter and Kit Kat and going to bed and waking up hungry, an off camera trip to the car for emergency boil a breakfast??? This was one of, if not the worst of Steve’s cooking!! He could of ate better by bringing more beer .
@@ChicanoOne760 If you can handle the following, it may help you over things quicker. 1- cook with garlic & ginger .Ginger goes good with chicken & beef, not so much with pork & turkey. 2- hot & spicy stuff. I go for something known as Ghost Jolokia sauce from a place known as Tropical Pepper. Just be careful because it's pretty nuclear. 3- If you like the taste, either Grapefruit juice or the ruby red kind of the same thing It'll help you sweat out the bug or, hopefully it should. The rest will or hopefully will help you get rid of any congestion & maybe stuffy nose.

Are modern MRE ok ? I used to pack a couple tins of beans n sausage and bread.put up with the weight and restock every otherday.( was never too far from civilisation)

Car camping is awful in Ontario. Had to get by using the carpools. The funny thing is I wasn't the only one sleeping in my car in those lots. Some are sketchy and got drug deals going on in them. North Ontario is okay for boondocking. But east and south ontario are too populated and everyone is fighting over parking space there
Referring to everything in Celsius and not forgetting to convert to others. As an Australian I can actually understand what he says with all the temperatures.

If you ever wondered how these backcountry fires start refer to this instructional video. My wife and I were yelling at the TV “no Steve no!” And then the fire began. What I love about this channel is how unfiltered it is. Makes mistakes, no shame, it’s things we’ve all probably done at one point or another. And I’ve gotten some good ideas from them for cooking. The mental mechanics of field rations is this: if you are physically exhausted, haven't slept in few days, it is cold and you have wet clothes - any food is *GREAT*. If the food is warm, it is divine. Later in life, you remember how great that food was, you buy some and you just might go back in your mind to that moment when the industrial food replica really hit the spot.
Felt sorry for Steve and his freezed dried food adventures this week. I love that Steve is always expanding his toolkit with different camping setups. And really looking forward to the reveal of the finished boat.

you could 'smoke your gear' as they say in the Forces - spray the fly with grey/green paint to cover the white patches - it will probably be actually stealth then
Sharpie Markers come in DOZENS of colors , they've probably got 6-10 shades of green that you could scribble over the Tan patches. Home Depot & WalMart used to have Flat-tone Rustoleum CAMO spray paint ( but i haven't seen it much anywhere for several months ; probably a C0v!d related supply chain issue )
The lil camp stove is the same thing fire fighters get. My husband use to fire fight and that's what he got in his fire kit. It actually saved us one night when we first moved in our 1st place.

Hey Steve, I personally really enjoy the meals you cook while you are out camping...don’t change a thing! I actually look forward to seeing the many different( and inspiring!) meals you come up with. My favorite thing to do on Thursday is to grab a meal and watch your videos.

Steve, if you continue to use that type stove, pack a large sheet of aluminum foil (maybe doubled) to put underneath it. Then you can avoid any grass fires. Folded aluminum foil will take up little room in your pack but may save you!!

I actually enjoy the Mountain House Breakfast Skillet and so does my partner, so it’s a go-to for camping and hiking. I need good coffee, breakfast, and dinner options. I’ve enjoyed making breakfast burritos or taco burritos, freezing them, and then cooking them in a skillet for any meal while camping. Super easy to let them thaw during the hike, fry them up, put on hot sauce and enjoy. I don’t want to assemble food while I’m hiking or camping. It’s more dishes, mess and I want to stay kinda clean and easy. If I’m camping at a campground in Washington, there is usually food I can pick up on my way; my campground membership in Birch Bay even has an excellent sushi bar. Lol

We bought our first pop-up tent today because of you. The ease of set-up is incredible. We got a summer one. I'll be getting a good winter one too. Car camping is awful in Ontario. Had to get by using the carpools. The funny thing is I wasn't the only one sleeping in my car in those lots. Some are sketchy and got drug deals going on in them. North Ontario is okay for boondocking. But east and south ontario are too populated and everyone is fighting over parking space there
can confirm southern ontario is utter trash for anything camp related

The mental mechanics of field rations is this: if you are physically exhausted, haven't slept in few days, it is cold and you have wet clothes - any food is *GREAT*. If the food is warm, it is divine. Later in life, you remember how great that food was, you buy some and you just might go back in your mind to that moment when the industrial food replica really hit the spot.
I still love eating MREs. Even after 10 years as a grunt with 8 deployments.

you could 'smoke your gear' as they say in the Forces - spray the fly with grey/green paint to cover the white patches - it will probably be actually stealth then
Sharpie Markers come in DOZENS of colors , they've probably got 6-10 shades of green that you could scribble over the Tan patches. Home Depot & WalMart used to have Flat-tone Rustoleum CAMO spray paint ( but i haven't seen it much anywhere for several months ; probably a C0v!d related supply chain issue )
Paint doesnt stick very well to new tents mayne after its been in the sun quite a few times and the plastic is becoming UV weathered
This is what I do to my tents-- use matte paint on the reflective high vis colours.
He has a camo/ghillie net he’s used before. Throw that over the bivvy and he’s golden.

Steve, if you continue to use that type stove, pack a large sheet of aluminum foil (maybe doubled) to put underneath it. Then you can avoid any grass fires. Folded aluminum foil will take up little room in your pack but may save you!!
I like this. I prefer my welder's blanket, but this seems workable too.

I randomally stumbled across your channel, Steve. Love watching you and neighbor and if I lived up their I'd be down to join you guys on adventures.
I actually enjoy the Mountain House Breakfast Skillet and so does my partner, so it’s a go-to for camping and hiking. I need good coffee, breakfast, and dinner options. I’ve enjoyed making breakfast burritos or taco burritos, freezing them, and then cooking them in a skillet for any meal while camping. Super easy to let them thaw during the hike, fry them up, put on hot sauce and enjoy. I don’t want to assemble food while I’m hiking or camping. It’s more dishes, mess and I want to stay kinda clean and easy. If I’m camping at a campground in Washington, there is usually food I can pick up on my way; my campground membership in Birch Bay even has an excellent sushi bar. Lol
