A Knight's Tale, the characters dancing to one of my all-time favorite Bowie songs "Golden Years". RIP Heath Ledger and David Bowie, you were both magnificent.
Agreed...that should've taken Slumdog Millionaire's spot on the list. Anyone who watches Bollywood knows that there are no such things as unexpected dance sequences in that genre
Ferris on the float is by far one of the best unexpected dance scenes ever, if not for the massive undertaking by the director, then definitely by the sheer volume of FUN it give all of us watching. I mean, Napoleon Dynamite at number 2? Travolta doing the twist in Pulp Fiction? These are nice little novelty scenes that help us understand more about the characters, but come on man: Ferris commandeers a float in a main street parade, dictates the music and knocks it out of the park.
It wasn't always in the film. Originally it was just the music video to go with the film, however because test audiences found the film to depressing they added it to make audiences feel better when leaving the cinema.
I don't care how dishonorable people think Peter Parker aka Spiderman dancing was. That was the FUNNIEST dance scene EVER!!! I will never forget it... Till this day ever time I watch that movie and that scene walking down the sidewalk comes on I'm teary eyed from laughing so hard. I love it!
I was waiting for that to at least get mentioned. I love that scene. When I think of a dance scene that is one of the ones my mind automatically goes to.
When you said 'It was the dance craze that sent a thousand kids crashing into their parents furniture' I did actually burst out laughing! I was one of those kids.

I don't care what anyone says, put Spider-Man 3 at number 1! It's so brilliantly out of place and hilarious. I love it so much. It shouldn't be there but it is and I love it! Tobey Maguire is such a dork too, it just makes it so damn memorable.
trapper9998 lol after reading your first comment I was thinking that I also do not cringe at that scene but then you said you were aussie, so am I, I had to comment, maybe we aren't human lol
Personally, I am always amazed and delighted at the impromptu dance sequence in The Fisher King. Not only is it beautiful, but it reveals character in a magical way.
Al Pacino in a Scent of a Woman is my most rewatched dance scene. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook final dance scene was awesome. I don't know how they could have been left out.
"Twist & Shout" from Ferris Bueller's Day Off is only in Honorable Mention??!!! Are you out of your mind? That should be at least top 2 or top 1!! And what about Robin William's dance to "Looks Like a Lady" while cleaning the house in Mrs. Doubtfire??? That was awesome! Not even in Honorable Mention??!! So, no, I don't agree with your list. As usual, WatchMojo' taste in things leaves much to be desired.
@i'm only here for the beer i agree with both of you and i also have to say the Addams family the mamushka was really shit on here Raul Julia and Christopher Lloyd were robbed.
Copper Kitty The little girl doing the strip routine is only wrong if you look at it sexually. I just saw a girl dancing. By the way, she's at least not wearing slutty Bratz doll make-up like the other girls in that contest.. or in any little girls beauty pageants..
Yeah, I was really caught off guard... I would never expect a dance scene in Slumdog Millionaire. It's like an explosion in a Micheal Bay movie, just such a surprise.
Jonathan Dahlberg It was sarcasm. Yes, every Michael Bay movie is packed with explosions. Just like every movie even just influenced by Bollywood is packed with dance scenes featuring lots of people dancing synchronized (I know SM is not a Bollywood movie). Jonathan Dahlberg The blatant show of ignorance wasn't enough huh? Seriously, every person on this planet that knows what a movie is, knows that Bay has explosions in everyone of his. When someone puts emphasis on that, it becomes clear that they are being ironic.
Gist432 Not really. I've never heard anyone talk about Michael Bay's explosions in that type of ironic way. And again, sarcasm isn't easy to see in text form. Example: "yeah, I'm totally gonna go buy milk at the store today" When talking in person, emphazising words becomes easier and you can be sarcastic with everyone understanding. In text form, you'd have no idea. Even if I emphazise words like "I'm *totally*" it can still be hard to detect sarcasm. There are a lot of people on the internet who have no idea what they are talking about, and there are certainly people who would think "Michael Bay is that guy who hates explosions, right?". I know, because I have met someone like that.
Carys Michael yea I saw it in the honorable mentions but I feel that it should've been in the top 10 itself because it's so widely known and just one of the most epic dance scenes in a film ever lol
Some off the Ferriis scenes looked like they were a direct rip off (or homage) to the Blues Brothers scene outside Rays Music Exchange. Which is a scene that should have been on this list!
John Travolta dancing to Chain Chain Chain...Chain of fools in "Michael " and Johnny Depp doing the Charlie Chaplin rolls on forks dance in "Benny and June"...2 of my favorites.
They deserve honorable mentions. Did not see "Micheal" but saw "Benny & "Joon" at 25 times (possibly more). The scene with the rolls is technically not a dance scene but it is memorable.
I love the dance scene in Blast from the Past. Adam, played by Branden Frazier, spontaneously swing dances with two partners to Mr. Zoot Suit by The Flying Neutrinos. It's fun, light hearted and works as a exceptional plot point to reveal to Eve (Alicia Silverstone) her true feeling for Adam (Brendan Frazier). What's more unexpected than the dance scene is just how well Frazier can dance.
Slumdog Millionaire was a surprise? I would have been surprised if there _wasn't_ a dance thrown in there. Indians *_love_* random choreographed dance scenes. (I don't blame them. I, too, love random choreographed dance scenes.)
so does a bunch of americans... It is crazy how many movies ends with a dance routine.. But I get what you're saying :) I actually thought that the majority of these weren't that unexpected.. It would be a surprise if there was a dancing in war movies or movies like Amistad..

All great, but the honorable mentions reminded me of Romy and Michele's hilarious finale dance with Sandy Frink to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" from Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
jrasicmark1 YES! Forgot about that scene, I love it!! But they do make a point of showing their personally choreographed club dances, so maybe it doesn’t fit this list as a surprising dance scene
Ferris Bueller's Twist and Shout scene being given just an honorable mention is an OUTRAGE to listing shit. I'm starting an online petition to correct this immediately 😤
I was thinking of that one as well. One of my personal favorites is also Kevin Klines 'Real men don't dance'-scene from In & Out but maybe that film is not that famous...
Els Verwilgen I've personally never heard of that film, but that doesn't mean it's not well-known in some circles. Kevin Kline...bet his dance was cool, though.
On top of which, the mere fact that Cuban Pete exists in the same movie with the scene that was shown means neither one should be in this list, since it is supposed to be a list of dance scenes in movies that had no other dance scenes.
Even though it's my favorite movie ever and a fantastic scene, it wasn't nearly as "unexpected" since they spent several minutes specifically on the subject of taking dance lessons on their own and with Kate's help as well before it happened. Were they to go straight from "I don't know how to dance" to the banquet it would have been something deserving to be on this list, probably around the middle. As it stands though, not really.
I'm so glad you mentioned that dance sequence, I was looking to see if anyone mentioned it. I loved it! So funny. I think you need to make another list, people!
SPACEBALLS movie: The Diner Scene. (A spoof on the ALIEN movie's exploding torso scene, then Jonathan Hurt's torso explodes again, out pops a dancing alien, singing, "HELLO MY BABY, HELLO MY HONEY, HELLO MY RAGTIME GAL"). It's ALSO a spoof on THE SINGING/DANCING FROG from LOONEY TUNES cartoons. lol :D

the dance scene of Hugh Grant in Love Actually is at least worth to mention
That's A Prime Minister who is dancing through his house
Its just awesome

Omg yes! 😆
and he's so good at it

I know it wasn't released when this video was published but Ex Machina really deserves a spot on this.

The dance scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is pretty iconic, I was hoping to see it on the actual list
thought it would be in the top 5 myself.
Ferris was a righteous dude and deserved to be on the list.
I love Ferris Buellers Day Off it’s one of my favorite movies
It’s my favorite movie
An amazing movie
Should have been #1. Way better than the 30 seoncds of dance in PF.
actually--the honorable mentions were better than some on the list
I Agree. how is Ferris Beuller just an honorable mention
I know, right! Thriller in 13 going on 30 was on point.
Pulp fiction was iconic
What? Not even a honorable mention for the tango scene in The Mask of Zorro? The chemistry between Antonio and Catherine was off the charts sexy.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off deserves more than an honorable mention.
That should have been #1

WHAT peter quill's awesome dance moves aren't even on the honorable mentions??? The opening scene and the "dance off, bro!" are ICONIC
BTW - the final dance number in Little Miss Sunshine was the entire point of the film! It wasn't unexpected at all - IT WAS THE POINT!!!
The drama trip was the point. No other dancing except at the end. Thus, not a dance movie. And that dance was totally unexpected.

On top of which, the mere fact that Cuban Pete exists in the same movie with the scene that was shown means neither one should be in this list, since it is supposed to be a list of dance scenes in movies that had no other dance scenes.
i think it's not here because it was the second dance number in that movie
Ferris Bueller's Day Off should have been #1 in my opinion
super liked
Why? What is your reasoning?
Because the whole city of Chicago was involved!
I’m glad they didn’t forget Addams family, Little miss sunshine, Napoleon Dynamite, and Vanilla Ice’s brilliant performance in “Secret of the Ooze”
The ex-machina dance was really good :D
Sadly this Top10 was made before Ex Machina came out
I was waiting for it. Didn't realize how old this video was though haha
The Knight's Tale's dance scene was cool.
Yes! absolutely, and it was so unexpected
DozenMarks well, I didn’t expect to see a totally out of the period dance scene to David Bowie. It blew me away,.
It was absolutely unexpected, when that first “..angel...” was slipped in and the dance changed course, it sent chills down my back it was so good!
I can’t believe you gave 13 going to 30 honourable mention that dance scene is amazing it deserves a number
OMG The breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off❤️😭
The First Wives Club and Ducky in Pretty in Pink should have been included.
I know right some of the best scenes in those movies and Ducky is a awesome dancer 🕺
And also The Scent of a woman dance scene
omgosh! Ducky!!! That was GREAT!
Oh yes, the first Wives Club "you don't own me". Love that!
SweetPea3189 especially ducky
YES! They included Spiderman 3 as a dishonorable mention haha
You cant leave out Hugh Grant in Love Actually. So spontaneous and part of his character's personality and charm. A bad miss on your part
I think Ferris Buellers Day Off should have totally been on the list!!
Kevin Kline in "In & Out" was also hilarious
He should've been number 2!
Yes! I forgot about that. "If you dance, you're gay!"
Best part of that whole movie was that dance scene!
Add: Kevin Kline's dance to I Will Survive in "In & Out"
Yes! I loved that scene! It was the only saving grace, imho, of the whole movie! Thanks for bringing it up.
I'm so glad you mentioned that dance sequence, I was looking to see if anyone mentioned it. I loved it! So funny. I think you need to make another list, people!
Yes! Love that scene!
Soon gonna see Joker's stair scene
I loved that scene.
That scene is GRAND! Omg,5 🌟 stars!
His bathroom dance was better
The impromptu jail dance scene in The Replacements. Watching Keanu Reeves and the other guys dance to Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive is priceless.😆
It's ALSO a spoof on THE SINGING/DANCING FROG from LOONEY TUNES cartoons. lol :D
WHERE WAS THE PRIME MINISTERS DANCE IN LOVE ACTUALLY
The Tango from Scent of a Woman is a glaring oversight
Hugh Grant dancing by himself in Love Actually was a hoot also!
There were some guys drinking beer and dancing in Platoon.
