I love that you show mistakes - it’s so nice to have it explained. Because I for one, mess up allll the time and sometimes I don’t know where I went wrong. So it’s nice to have mistakes explained in real time.
I just finished watching your video, and l loved it. I am going to paint my version as soon as l receive my small detail brushes to make it Christmas card.
Just found you this morning and I painted this! Wish I could add a pic here. I painted it in memory of my husband and added the poem Cardinals appear when Angels are near.
Sorry for my english, I'm from Spain, I wanted to tell you I,m very grateful for yours tutorials because you do it step by step and you don't try to hide your mistakes as others do, so we can see that nobody is perfect and it helps us to keep on trying. Thanks a lot.
A very beautiful card!! You’re so easy to follow. I do a lot of cards. Whenever I have lines, like the fence, I use watercolor pencils so the color will blend right in and I don’t have to erase pencil lines. Painting flowers I get the closest color to the flower color to draw it so it will blend right in when I paint it. I love how you did the pine needles.
Julia, I commented on this video almost a year ago re the thanks button. It was actually my phone and the button appeared after I took an update. Sorry. TMI. 😊 I did not forget but apologize for the delay. I continue watching your enjoyable, calm and real time videos! I like that they are usually quick but that you are drawn to detail.😉. Thank you!
I love the way this turned out! I’m a new subscriber, and I’ve really been enjoying your videos so far - thank you. For this pic, I have two small, niggly points: if the fence posts cast a shadow across the snow, the cross bars should too, and, you did 4 first fronds, top right, but only 3 branches! The last one is not attached to anything ☺️. It still looks great though 💙
Most of my stuff isn't meant to be botanically correct - merely nice to look at :) I assume the receiver of my card isn't going to analyze the correctness of the painting (I hope!)
Thanks for the lovely painting. I love watching your videos. I learn so much and get lots of ideas. Only one thing, do you think you could put your water and pallet on your right side. This would help you and also we wouldn't see you crossing over each time to dip your brush. Thanks.
I think this painting is much more than “pretty ok”, it is fantastic!!. I was truly impressed with the affect you got as soon as you painted the white at the base of each post!!. For me, your painting immediately took on a snowy appearance!!. WOW!!. If my attempt came out as beautiful as yours, I would frame it and keep it forever!. 🥰🎄❤️
I am going to paint this for my mom for Christmas. She loves snow and cardinals. I am very new to watercolor painting; however, your tutorials are very easy to follow!!
Such a fun tutorial. Especially enjoy your positive comments and your genuine delight at how well the painting turned out. Love your enthusiasm!! Thank you so much!!!
This is beautiful. I watched 2 minutes, then hit the like button and clicked the bell after I hit subscribe. I couldn't click fast enough. Thank you. Lynn in AZ
I love this. I think you would like Gouache (pronounced gwash) because it is opaque watercolor. Holbein makes a great white gouache. I also like Dr. Ph Martins bleed proof white. Thank you for this tutorial. Im going to try it.
I painted this for my Christmas cards this year. Thank you for the great idea. I did leave the cardinal out. I just couldn't get it right. Love your channel.
Julia, you are such a great teacher! What kind of pencil do you use to pencil in your animals/structures? And eraser? Mine tends to be too dark and when I erase it smears and messes up my hard work! Thank you for your beautiful art and tutorials. So helpful to this beginner.
As soon as I finish watching - I definitely want to try this … Can you tell us why using acrylic on your watercolor brushes can ruin them? I watched a girl use a toothbrush and her thumb for flicking paint for snow and it worked great! Give it a try! I’m a newbie (kind of… I use watercolors with embossed stamped images) but definitely a newbie for freehand watercoloring… This is great and YOU are great!
Thank you Liane! I don't know the official reason but from experience, you can't probably wash out the acrylic paint when it seeps into the part where the bristles meet the brush. As a result, it dries there and messes up the pristine layout of the bristles.
Thank you for sharing your process. It has been years since I did any watercolors and to keep up you really need to make the time to practice frequently. I would like to see the finished piece first then see the order that you use to create the layers and design. Also if you would please mention the size of brush you're using. It turned out very nice.
I love this scene. I watched the video three times. My first try, I made my green blotches too large. Plus, the pine needles too wide, many were curved, and too thick. The result resembled thick bushes in the sky.😅. I did a second painting where the pine needles came out perfect! The bird would have been fine, but it was way too big! I plan on a third try - that's how much I love this snowy scene!
@@JuliaLisArt A friend helped me get started in watercolor about a year ago. I am so grateful when I run across good instructional videos. I keep coming back to yours because Your pace and explanations are just right for me! I am so happy when I learn something new, like how to do the pine branches. Thank you!!
Merry Christmas to you 😊 Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I truly appreciate it. Almost done painting this picture. It doesn't look as lovely as yours, though I'm having fun with it. If it doesn't look too awful, I will send it as a Christmas card. Thank you again, Jan
Love it!! The pine needles on the branches are fantastic and the pine cones add that extra pop! Thinking I’ll be painting this for a few relatives for Christmas! Thank you so much….and I hope to see more like this❤
I really enjoy learning from your real time videos! Some tutorials are so fast paced that it’s almost stressful trying to follow…at least for me. I know the video can be slowed down but it’s not the same. 😊. Love the pines and outdoor scenes and yes to more winter scenes! Not sure why but I don’t see the “thanks” button under your video. I have used it before on others and can’t find any info on why it wouldn’t be there for me to click on. You deserve a thank you.👍
Thank you for asking Jessica! I checked and it should be there, perhaps try refreshing or clicking the 3 little dots under the video to open a larger menu? If not, you can try under another video? Either way, thank you for your continued support and viewage! I used to do fast paced videos but you all really like the real time!

I love that you don’t edit out your mistakes. I’ve learned so much from watching you fix your happy little mistakes.
Haha "happy" mistakes

Hi Julia!
I painted this today just for fun.
I truly enjoyed doing this one.

This scene was my first attempt at watercolor - tried on Hot and Cold press.
Thanks for watching and trying!

Its easier for me to have it on the left - otherwise I keep knocking everything with my elbow
what an enchanting card.
Thank you!
Beautiful, I think when I paint this I’ll add a female cardinal on the ground.
That would be a lovely addition!
I was thinking that also...even on the other fence post facing the male.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Holly!

Hi! Thanks for the perspective lesson. That's something I struggle with. I will be doing this for a Christmas card and am excited to try it!!
It really just comes down to drawing lines that all connect to one single point in the distance
Wonderful Job ❤

I was a little confused about which color for the pine trees. Is is a green or black brown or both. Thanks
@@valeriehouck5284 Whatever you want! I used green, and green mixed with black, and brown for the pinecone.
