He's not a fraud, he didn't know and still doesn't know every champion. He's played even back in earlier league but same as before never bothered to learn the game for more than like 3 games and then quit and never touch again.

genuinely if you haven't reached that point yet, you either are new, or don't take the game seriously. I have been playing this game for 10 years, and I had multiple friends turn angry over a game of league, while they never had that reaction over any other game during our friendship. This game simply makes you angry, if you take it seriously.
The thing about Vo Corvo many people don't understand, is that he doesn't Giga feeds purposely, he just can't play properly, he has multiple sclerosis, and his fingers have limited functions.
He just literally CAN'T play better, he tries to, but he can't.
And as it seems, dude is just lonely, he's on his 60's and if you look at his face, you are going to notice that something isn't right, and apparently League is one of the few pleasures he has, so when smurfs fucked his ranked games, he then started to reverse smurf to teach them a lesson.
Also I heard there's some money issues like people don't pay on his stream if he plays in low elo acc considering streaming one of his main revenue sources

Edit: I completely forgot about the Maokai fiasco. A champion being at a 54%+ win rate for 4-5 patches consecutively is pure incompetence. A balance team LEAD then using said champion to climb to masters for the first time and proceeding to antagonize/brag about it is insulting. (Obviously still doesn’t excuse death threats don’t do that)

The thing is, that one clip of Karthus ult that became a meme was really the only time Phreak acted like that. Usually, he is very open, straightforward, and honest with the community. Sure, he's no always POLITE, but I feel like in that ONE moment, he was goaded into responding emotionally and sarcastically. He has been the scapegoat for all the hate, anger, and frustration of the community towards the balance team. Phreak is just a person and a single person can only take so much criticism before they lash out. If anything, Phreak is impressively impervious to all the anger misdirected at him....

THE THING IS: Vo corvo, the 60 years old reverse smurf guy, recently got a triple kill against 3 professional players. He has been playing on challenger for so long that he is actually getting better at a really fast rate.

It was never about what Phreak said. It was always how he said it. No one would have cared it he didn't take a, "Shut up idiots, you don't know anything." tone when addressing community concerns. He's just not good at PR. Was he lying? No. But did he have to be so condescending about it all? Absolutely not.

Funnily enough 99% of those who complain about Phreak would probably act the same or even worse if you had to CONSTANTLY deal with idiots crying about balance to justify their inability to climb because they are bad. I'd be fucking pissed of and tired of them aswell.

@@jandjhroco That's a fair point, I also prefer their approach over Phreak's one. But I still don't think that means he deserves all this hate, some people have more patience as others. We could argue that they should have someone else communicating and sharing the changes and Phreak should just stay balancing in the dark, but I think there's some value to having one of the people involved in the patches comment them themselves

That said, there is always the option for phreak to not be the face of balance team while he condescendingly talks down to the audience during his patch notes. The "just type Karthus ult" rubs me in so many wrong ways. Not only can you not ping during busy team fights, but I do not have extreme apm where I can type anything i want without disrupting my normal movements.
I'm just reminded of how lucky the TFT scene is to have someone like Mort who calmly explains the balance decisions, openly admits when he(or the team messed up), why some technical limitations restrict how/when they can update the game in a timely manner, why certain balance decisions are made(often even including many details I never would have even considered).
I'm not sure what the best thing for Riot to do is. This approach clearly works in TFT, though they have an amazing lead who protects his team from criticism, helps the community feel heard, and explains patches in a satisfying way to the community. But the Riot approach keeps getting flak for their balance decisions which at many times baffles be while someone like phreak can explain some unpopular decisions and make himself a perfect target for the community hatred.
Love that Soda calls the game bad, but its really just the gaming community in general. Homie was just complaining about people, not even the game.

It’s the community not recognizing that the game is actually hard to get into. There is so much barrier of entry because there is an overwhelming amount of information thrown at a new player. League has definitely come along way with helping newer players with things like recommended runes, champion specific recommended items, jungle pathing indicators and more in-depth ability explanations, but a new player is still going to do terrible for a while, because there is an unfathomable amount of things that you need to learn through experience

Communication is the main and only issue with Riot.
Phreak is an example of that, thus he's a "person" that people can project to because before he got on the team, "who's on the balance team?" was a common mystery. Not saying he deserves threats.
The lack of transparency on a lot of aspects of the game is what makes it MORE frustrating.
Like at least say that you are not allowed to speak on certain things or actually communicate how wild it is to not be able to say much.

They will never implement it because in reality the players who make up the majority of ranked games (90%+) dislike griefing/soft inting/boosted players way more than flame and will vote accordingly.
As soon as a boosted duoq support player soloqs offrole, griefs then loses behavior score or someone who flames people who are griefing while playing consistently well has a high behavior score, certain sections of the community + advertisers will have a massive issue with this even though it is democratically player decided and reflective of the opinion of the majority.
When you take into account that the people who would have an issue with a system like this are likely leagues most profitable users it becomes even more unlikely.
Its a great system but will never happen.
@@kwoltekublai3337 Players not differentiating between performance and behavior is a valid concern, but not one that couldn't be dealt with. You're kind of expecting a very naive implementation, so we'd have to trust Riot to put some actual thought into it. Keep in mind that a system like this has been proven to work very well in another game with exactly the same circumstances.
@@kwoltekublai3337 Dota keeps chat and gameplay behaviour scores separate, and has like 8 different categories for reporting someone. Meaning someone who just flames will have their chat (and possibly pings) muted until their score improves, while griefers get actual gameplay punishments until their gameplay score improves. On top of that, your chat score is capped at your behaviour score, so if you're throwing a lot you will me muted as well despite never saying anything toxic. It actually works and riot can clone most of the system without any need for adaptation.
League already has it, go int a few games or trash talk to get reported, before you're banned you're gonna see how bad your game quality is.
League already has a patent that proves that's a thing too, they match badly behaved played vs random groups of played, that's why badly behavior ones are more likely to lose, a.k.a losers queue, if you don't believe me the patents are out there.

The thing that I don't get about the "Oh, Phreak doesn't deserve the flame" is that he's the TEAM LEAD. It may not be how it works, but *he makes the decisions on how it should work, he's in control of it.* If things aren't working, it's because he's failing as a team lead and the team he's in control of isn't doing their job right, and he's doing nothing to change that.

Team lead is just funny name for someone that has to directly report to superiors, ultimately if the whole team agrees it goes, if no one agrees, it doesn't go. He can't pull shit out of his ass regardless.
I guess you clearly missed the whole part where Baus was also talking about how people complained about the whole balance team for no reason. Phreak being the lead here is irrelevant, you are assuming "things aren't working", but I'd argue having most champs between 46-54% wr in a game with 160+ characters and thousands of possible interactions between them, items, lanes, builds, playstyles... is a pretty good achievement. Just like Baus, I agree you all are taking this too far and blaming balance team for literally anything, probably trying to justify your inability to climb to higher ranks

I´ve been climbing for this entire season, first time i ever hit emerald, and in that rank i feel like i am still outperforming everyone else. Only issue being that most of the times i get level 30 accounts who played 10 or 20 ranked games, and they lost them all or played them horribly.
Many times i get these players who get carried on their first rankeds and the game just places them on the highest rank possible for that, and then they just don´t play like they belong there.
Every single game i get these players and its frustrating.
Last season i hit platinum for the first time and on this one, i was placed on bronze 2, because i lost the first rankeds of the season, against platinums while my team was full of level 40 accounts that barely ever played ranked. Now the game is gonna place them even higher.. it makes no sence.
I don't think I've ever seen someone miss 12 last hits in a row.
After a couple splits of kicking around in low plat/low emerald, i hit diamond on a 60%wr this split and master+ players that used to seem super terrifying feel really beatable to me now. Gonna try for master tier this split, feeling really confident I can make it up there.
Fun thing for me is that when they started adjust ranks last time, I started climbing again. Yay.
I'm gonna level with folk for a moment. Why the fuck do so many people not play flex queue? Just get a gang and hit the rift, Fill queue it for more fun. It's the best way to improve and have fun at the same time; and it gives you the chance to figure out (for clash and stuff) what your best roles actually are. I know for a fact that I am an atrocious jungler, doesn't matter if I'm solo, 3-man or 5-man, I just don't care for it enough and get tilted. But I've given it a good 100 games across seasons now in these different configurations to make that determination properly. I used to like Support most, but now I'm firmly in the solo lane camp. That happened because I was able to take my time and learn that.
Playing 5-man is also the best way to experiment, make your own playstyle whether that is champion or way you play the map. That kinda experimentation is why I've finally begun climbing. Because something I was doing finally needed to give.
The community in league's worst attribute is that people don't actually want to improve, they want to perfect (CS, matchup, game knowledge, calls, mechanics), and since it is a team game, that requires the same perfection from their team. But that isn't how you improve. I think many people who get hard stuck and think Riot is holding them back are holding themselves back by subconsciously thinking this way. (But hey, that's just my opinion)
sad part is that lol is a game of a team and for 5 ppl, but all ppl are too focused on solo/duo (i pref that it was only solo) and we have right now the stigma of flex that are new normals, still sad

Phreak was always a decent person and when the outrage with the Karthus meme happened, this was an out of context clip of someone who streams a lot and got constantly bombarded for every little thing people were upset about. Yea, in a professional environment, this shouldn't happen. But with Riot it's different if someone plays the game a lot and is also transparent to attempt to give insight into everything and talk about it. Just imagine you sit there for hours every other day and your chat starts getting flooded by idiots more and more, until it makes up a majority of the chat.
I might try for master if I have the time. I finally reached diamond this split and it was mostly an issue of playing enough so I’m a lil excited about seeing how far I can go.
A year ago I was Gold III I believe, mostly because I only played rank for the skin at the end of the year, but in the split 2 of last year I wanted to test how high I could climb by myself, no duo and not really studying to improve, just straight up playing and seeing how it went. Right now before the split 2 of this year I'm at Diamond III, and I think it may be the time to really start learning some theory stuff if I want to keep climbing. My goal is to reach master before the end of split 2
I love how Soda has played this game so little and yet he has perfectly summarized almost everything about this game. The only thing he was wrong about is that being masters means something cuz Phreak proved that u can just abuse the broken shit at the time and surpass your peak by 200-300 lp. And no, no one deserves death treats but there are so many contradictory things he has said and done and abused things that should have been hotfixed nerfed FOR months, that theres no way I will ever acknowledge him as being good for the game. Same as the balance team their all morons. What this game needs is a balance team of actually challenger players from all roles and servers, not chatgpt balancing the game.

Last split i played like 18 games and finished in E4. My last game in plat were at 97 lp. I usually win at least 38-42 lps per game and when i reached E4 i was at 0lp. So now ... If I play at 97 win 40 om avg. i wont start at E4 37 lp, i have to hope to not lose the next game to demote again ? Or is it only between emerald tiers but not a whole elo ?

I only played around 60 games this split. I wanted to play ranked as usual, but everything gone wrong from the start. First of all, I got placed in Emerald and had to climb up to my usual Diamond. It felt like the games were bit too easy for me I got to the Diamond pretty fast and then I faced the ultimate equaliser and each and every game was one-way down. I just gave up on ranked this split and I'm feelin' like give up on the next one as well. Maybe get Diamond as usual, but nothing more. What's the point anyway

It's not like a huge jump for me i think it's definitely possible because i generally don't play that much ranked games like last split for example i only played around 100 games with a 60% WR . I do watch alot of pro players/streamers and i watch the pro scene as well i feel like i can do it if i play more and have the right mentality/mindset towards the games it won't be easy but hopefully i can do it i will finish my exams around the 10th of June and i would be free to achieve that goal afterwards

I have to agree with SodaPoppin. People don't understand how difficult it is for actual new players to get into the game. In general playing your first Moba is really difficult but people expecting you to know all champions and abilities makes it so much worse. And I don't think new players can learn enough from the bots. As there are always actual long term players in pve games. There should be a tier of bots above intermediate so more new people can actually learn and PVE enjoyers as myself can actually play against bots
I personally don’t like that there is no demotion protection anymore because I liked that after I went up a tier I could have sort of a rebreather and always had that one game where it didn’t matter if I lost since I’d be at 0 lp. I went from g3 to e3 this split and hope to reach diamond next split, although I don’t play much ranked.

I mean the shear ammount of champs and items, objectives, and interactions is a wall to climb. (Then it becomes a big reason why i still play, because i feel like i know so much about the game...) Getting only like 40% (if that) of knowledge while leveling an acc.(there are still people who dont know autoing in brush grants vision that have played 10+ years, people that do not know you share more gold letting a teammate kill a ward you sweep. Both the sweeper and the ward killer get the money. Then further still people who dont understand pathing for ganks, and signs of bait.) But he is right though. I only saw like 50/60% actually new players when lvling up my alt 3 accounts with maybe another 30% of those ever sticking with the game til lvl 30 and a good deal of them never picking it up again after that. Each of my alts are to learn more about other roles. Id say my hope for split 2 is hit diamond again on main then get each alt acc to emerald. Only got one other acc other than main to emerald this season :/ rest stayed in plat...
Thank god they get rid of the -50LP drops, I tried getting to silver despite usually not caring about elo, but everytime I got into Bronze 1 I got completely one sided stomps to the point where I frequently did the most damage of my team as Tank support (Naut, Ali, Leona).
As for elo inflation: I look up stats to see what I can expect of my ADC and usually I have 1-3 players across both teams (in Bronze/Silver) that were Plat or Diamond last split... and they're rarely performing better than the rest.

Yeah, I don't play much anymore (not enough time), but I still try to get the victorious skins. I finished last split in Gold 4. I did my provisionals last week, won 4/5, and got placed in Plat 4? So now I'm on a 5 game losing streak lol. At least I only have to ruin one more game to get enough points for the skin!

I guess so. Though if i got demoted a tier because of a single game and got -75 lp starting from 25 it would give me so much cancer i'd probably int 3 more.

Really hope reverse smurfing becomes a big thing since riot doesn't want to do anything about regular smurfing at this point. If smurfs want to ruin low elo games, then they should ruin high elo games. Its no surprise to anyone that you will have at least ONE smurf per game in plat or below. It is getting sad, really sad.
I think the biggest short fall of riot is that they dont give the balancing team a chance to balance the game. When you constantly change items, add new skins with different effects, change existing items, remove items, constantly add new champs, it begins to feel like pointless task. I think riot needs to cool it on the releases to give the balancing team a chance to actually find a cohesiveness between the champions and items. I also think that it is a massive short site to ignore things like mmr resets when it would help yo strengthen that idea. Opting to just ignore it does seem "lazy" in a sense even if other things are being worked on. While it might not be a situation where they arbitrarily pick and choose champions that get buffed and nerfed its easy to lose site of fair selection when there us a champion you inherently enjoy. Riot can pretend they dint pick favorite's but when kayne was op for like two seasons straight and only got nerfed once everyone blamed that kayne riot employee I knew what was up lol. All in all I think ya phreak has gotten a lot of hate he shouldn't have. But that doesn't mean the way the balancing of items and the game is monitored is alright. There is many things that get left untouched for years and there is things no one asks for that gets shoved down our throats on the regular. I'm tired of pointing fingers at one specific area at riot. End of the day they are a team if they cant come to a mutual agreement on how the game should be run its not gonna last. My fear is its the side we don't want to see succeed that has more power and say at riot.

So after reducing the master+ inflation by not donating LP they bring back duoq in it so more yuumi and lulu players can place there?
since you asked my rank rn is at plat as a complete solo player. I've really been trying to improve and I think my problem right now is just my champ pool. It's too big I'm kind of a jack of all trades master of none. I get bored of playing a champ for too long i have multiple champs at around 50k mastery and then I kinda just stop playing them and end up playing new champs. I know that if I go otp or focus on a very small champ pool I could make it to diamond maybe, in fact I'm a mid main and i was filled into support, I locked in pyke and my adc was telling me that I'm so good that if i OTP pyke i could make diamond easily. I think was exaggerated but still it's a nice idea, I'm only good at pyke cus I played him a lot in arena recently so my mechanics are clean asf on him. I'm just feeling very weird about what I wanna do to climb and what champs I play because I like to play off meta stuff. I'm just yapping at this point so imma stop but imma see what i can do to make emerald at least.
