I'm so glad that I found this video! I'm starting to dig into Protection decks more, and I never knew how many different types of archetypes there were for it. This is so awesome! I love you "Who needs arrows?" Hawkeye Protection build.
@@canadianmustash Nelson did an awesome job. Plus his video quality is much higher than mine. I doubt I will revisit the only one I believe he missed was the full on support build. Where all you do is keep feeding other players upgrades and supports to dilute your deck and keep playing cards like muster courage and second winds
I love videos like this because they get the mind flowing with possible ideas for deck builds. Thanks for posting!! I was actually thinking it might be fun to try Dr. Strange with a Taunt deck. It seems to me he would be able to play Taunt nicely after he has stunned the villain or given himself a tough status.
Great video, for the Taunt archetype I think it fits well the bait and switch card as well as the get behind me, i use them for spiderman and I get so many cards
One other suggestion my dear Nelson: eternal allies with heals - some allies have 3 attacks for 1 consequential damage, so a med team may fare in the range of 12-16 damage for 4 effective resources. I played this with Drax ally or Captain Marvel Ally, it was insane.
I was never interested in Stunlock because of Steady/Stalwart but you made me rethink it. It looks fun and it's something different. I will definetely check it out and have some fun with Cpt. America and Miles... and leave aside some crazier villains ;).
I recently did a taunt build with SP//dr, which was pretty fun, either stunning the villain with thwip thwip or using her one upgrade for 4 DEF. When she has so many resource gens on the table to pay for taunt, and a hand size of only 3, drawing those 3 cards can be huge. Also thwip thwip + energy barrier to redirect that damage to an enemy is one of my favorite combos in the game.
I've always vibed with protection since I bought the core set and played Black Panther. I watched your video with Spider-Ham and want to build that deck meow.
Little bit late to the party but saw your Spider Man (Peter Parker) taunt build. Question: Thought about swapping out Never Back Downs and Iron Fist for Hard Knocks and Black Widow. Hard Knocks gives Spidey much needed minion control and a tough instead of the stun from NBD (-> more card draw). Black Widow pairs nice with ingeniuty and would give even more Encounter card control
Green went from the worst aspect in core to the best now as the archetypes are very distinct and fun. I'm still unconvinced by Taunt given how little I use Petulant Pig. I play Porker with just the obvious green cards - some Web Warriors, Thwip & Spider Tingle. That would be a status heavy deck I guess? I played Miles with just SpiderYuk (who can do a lot of damage) I have also used Protection plus Basic and their piles of cheap upgrades/support to make a very thin deck that hits my best cards over and over. It works well with Venom and poorly (to date) with Black Panther. There is almost a healing deck out there where you never defend but it's not good enough, and it doesn't have high fun moments to cover the ropeyness. I did get Martyr working ish to provide a tough blocker on many turns though the best card in that deck was Iron Fist. That is a fun little cycle to use - better now than when I played it with Hangar Bay. Rocket is the best. And also the best repurpose deck. He can spike huge amounts of damage or threat removal and having another way to remove his upgrades for profit on top of Tinkering makes him flow better rather than that & Repurpose fighting for a scarce resource. I loved Quicksilver in perfect defence. It takes a while before he can reliably stop the villain but he can safely block minions for profit. Since I barely play MP I have not explored the protect the world archetype!
So fun. A few thoughts: 1. It's interesting when you said there were two subtypes to perfect defense. I thought "defend to attack" and "defend to thwart." Then you surprised me... 2. Thoughts on the multiplayer Wasp as a "party cleric" healer role? Most healing cards are mental resourced, and can be played in AE. With Wasp's abilityn she keeps recurring cards from discard to pile.
Oh yea that could totally be classified in that direction as well! Defending for thwarting is tough, but doable! I really want to play the wasp healer! I have seen a few decks floating around using that idea and really want to do it! I think I will build somethign like that for my next meetup!
I don't know how you can mention Protection and Perfect Defense/Defend the Table without mentioning the absolute best in that aspect in the entire game: Kitty. She is the absolute apotheosis of defend-y protection. She can absolutely defend for a whole table.
Thank you so much for this vid. Been playing MC for 2 months (mosty Justice and Aggresion) and just built my first Black Panther and Iron Man protection decks and had an AWFUL time. This vid gave me a better understanding of how protection could work. Gotta buy some packs tho 🥲
I don't love Protection with every hero, but when the hero shines with Protection it's my favorite aspect.

This is how I feel. I don’t usually play Protection but I love Drax and he is so much fun in Protection. Looking forward to giving Taunt a whirl.

I saw a recent video about a rogue deck that plays into the android trait with reboot and lots of teck and repurpose! Gonna have to build it for sure!
