Incredible -- this is a collection of some of the finest ever. The untimely loss of Keith was certainly one of the the biggest blows country music ever suffered --he was simply the best and that says it all.
"I Just Think I'll Go Away" was always 1 of my all-time faves that Keith did with Ralph-I've been a Keith fan back to the early 80's when I 1st heard him on a local radio bluegrass show-they played cuts from the very rare 1st album with R.Skaggs on the Jalyn label, & about 8 years ago I found a copy on Ebay-paid WAY too much, but never regretted it-played it once, copied to CD, & put away! Keith was 1 of the all time best bluegrass lead singers there ever was.
I picked this album up in Houston, Tx about 1978. It is simply amazing how much Keith and Ricky could make themselves sound like Ralph and Carter. I believe they were still in high school when this was recorded. Correct me if otherwise. If there's an angel band, Keith's in it.
I remember the day he died-WWVA Wheeling gave his passing top news over all national & regional events. The "Old Kentucky Fox Hunter" could really lay it down!
& to let you know, when he passed away, his death was top story on WWVA Wheeling-I was listening that day-& his death notice surpassed every national news event, which took a sidebar to it. (really!) too bad WWVA went &threw country aside & went to talk radio afterwards considering the heritage & history of the station with country music.
i am an east ky coal miner born and raised on this stuff been playin bluegrass for 10 yrs now still hoping to get this good someday
Great Video's.
I was raised up hearing the music of Ralph Stanley, and still listening to it today.
Really Glad you posted this video to share.

I was raised on this music.Been away too long.I wouldn't trade the TOP 100 for this one song.
2 of my favorites! thanks for sharing. I agree this was a great combination. Carter will always be missed, but Keith sure did keep his memory alive.
I can cry when I see this,
Great video of young Ralph and the great late Keith Whitley.

This was bluegrass at its absolute best.
bluegrass would not be without Ralph Stanley
Couldn't have said it better !
Perfection....incredible..
Got to meet him a while back. Nice man. I said, " You look a whole lot like Ralph Stanley", he didn't miss a beat, "I'm kin to him" he said.
I'd rather dance to a frailed banjo than anything else in this world. It is not possible to stay still when it's playin'.
Amazing, he looks so differen there. I was only familiar with his 80's hits.
Oh, Man! It don't get no bettern that!
i love this song
Hot damn, he was good!!

Clawhammer style! Nice Dr. Stanley

@bwsb2008 as well RIP Jack Cooke - Bass and Keith Whitley - guitar/singer
Ralph could put more drive into a tune playing clawhammwer than Earl could have with picks on all five fingers!
That guitar Keith is playing is a 1938 D-28 that Lester Flatt gave him..Keith could "IMITATE" Flatt to a "T"...
This is great!!!!! Where is the show filmed? Looks like The Birchmere?
help, please - what is the name of the second song? the one that R. Stanley plays clawhammer style?
why does ralph stanley introduce him as colonel keith whitley?
WOW! thanks for posting
