I recently bought shampoo for my husband that was causing itching on his scalp, so instead of throwing it away, I used it as a toilet bowl cleaner. Worked beautifully 😊
I make fire starters for our campfires. I stuff the toilet paper roll with dryer lint. Then I run a line of petroleum jelly along the side of the roll. It starts fires very fast. A friend marveled this summer at how fast I could start our camp fires. I owe it all to the roll!
We do something similar. The toilet paper (bought bulk)comes wrapped in a sheet of paper, I save that, stick dryer lint in it, and stuff into empty roll, with edges sticking out.quick start fire in the morning.
We are experimenting with using the paper handles from garbage bangs (after taking the bag to the trash). We roll them tight and scotch tape (better size match than duct them shut. Tough to light in a breeze. When we split the seam apart it worked better, so now I do that before rolling them.
We use the tp rolls, paper towel rolls and tissue boxes for fire starters, too. Except, I stuff the paper wrappers from butter and the wax from cheese into those, too. We squish them down and store in a plastic bucket so they do not attract "guests," there is no risk of detecting odirs, and the starters stay dry until ready to use.
Butter Wrappers --- after unwrapping sticks of butter, put the wrappers in a baggie and keep in freezer. When needing to grease a pan for baking, use a butter wrapper as there is just enough butter residue on them.
I make sure I unwrap butter right out of the fridge or better yet the freezer so there is next to no butter on the wrapper, no reason to take steps to save it.
I too use it while it is cool so there isn't much butter on the wrapper. But I do UV resin and use the butter papers as a pallet for my resin when I mix very small batches, especially with glitter. Then it all can be tossed. No mess clean up.
If you put clear nail polish on your buttons when you first buy the shirt/jacket/pants, the buttons will never get loose. Run aluminum foil through your shredder and the blades will stay sharp.
Rinse aid works grt on shower doors and a dishwasher tab in the airfryer .Just let it boil away for 10 mins and all the stuck on bits of food will have been b completely loose ,perfection .A bowl of water left in the microwave works in a.similar way . The steam hits the the roof and all corners .With new sheets and duvets always mark the size with biro on the label .Then u can always find the right size in a hurry .
I use bread ends to line the bottom of a baking pan when I make meatloaf. The bread absorbs the grease and makes it easy to remove the finished meatloaf from the pan .. Cleanup is easier too
My brother and I are firm believers in reusing items. I nail hardener on my eye glasses to keep the screws from coming loose or falling out, it works for me.
I like to doll the clothespins up by adding an old school fabric yo-yo…make a set with holiday fabric and give as gifts..friends enjoy homemade items you make with love❤
I use empty prescription bottles for organizing different types of safety pins and also as a sharps container for ruined pins and needles. It keeps the trash collectors safe!
My now 4 year old loves plants. A couple of years ago we planted some sweet pepper plants just for fun. She absolutely loved the tomato plant from a friend so we planted some pepper seeds right out of the pepper. I did not expect anything. We had more pepper plants than we knew what to do with. My mother asked, "how did you get them to grow so fast?" We just put them in dirt for fun. Our living situation was a challenge for growing plants but we still have some of those pepper plants still producing food for us! All thanks to my beautiful daughter loving plants and trying an experiment.
Hi Jennifer, yes your daughter's apple tree will be fruitful in 2 more years! But depending on the type, it needs a pollinator 🍎 apple friend. 🍎 🍏 you can Google which one if she remembers. So helpful, thank 😊 you! You gained a new sub
Your daughter is wise. However, she may not have realized that the seed would produce a tree but wanted to find out. To hers and everyone surprise an apple tree sprouted up. Everyrhing grows from a seed and I plant seeds from kitchen scraps like fruits and vegetables each spring. You can even save the seed from your harvest for next year. Happy gardening little one! 👍💝
@@maureensamson4863 i LOVE THIS I abhor buying a plant for full price i prefer starter plants THEN IF it dies when k transplant it or its just not viben to my kind of music 😂 then Ive lost less than a dollar insead of 25 dollars & upwards 300 depending. I also like to hot the walmart near me in the warmer months because they dont take care of the starter plants so once they start dropping the leaves are limp n lifeless, cuz they want to make that sell! They will drop em to 25 cents. Friends will usually give you starts from Their plants for free. I bought a bamboo plant that im growing in water and it grows so super fast k Like 3 inches a day if you take care of it imagine taking a section off the top for soneone they nust have to go home n put it in soul, while YOUR bamboo plant is already growing it back plus more! 😀
Thank you for the ideas. I save glass bottles. The spaghetti sauce ones. I peel the paper and re use them to store left over in the fridge or to store other things. They come in all shapes. Very useful.
If you can, there are specific types that regular canning lids and rings will fit on and seal as well. I save every sauce jar. I also save my peanut butter jars. Obviously not for canning, but there are so many things I use these for!
gift wrap: take the paper off the outside of the roll, roll it a little tighter and put it inside the roll for storage. it protects the paper from aging and random tears. I also put plastic bags inside paper towel rolls (with paper towels still on the roll) for using as trash bags especially handy in the car on a long trip .
@@jeandiehl5074 when you let go of the roll it unwinds itself naturally for a snug fit inside the roll and stays put. When it is on the outside of the roll, you have to put something on it to keep it rolled up.
Omg, this is genius. You could cut a small strip or square to stick on the outside of the roll to make it easier to find the one you want, too. I gotta do this!
When I was an elementary school teacher, we used the bread bag tabs to fix flip-flop straps that pulled through the bottom. Just poke the strap back through and put them on the bottom and wrap it around the strap
I would save old socks for my daughter. She and her friends would spend hours making clothes for Barbie. I would give her puff paint and ribbons to help decorate the Barbie outfits
Same idea, but I use formula cans as trash cans (nursing didn't work for me this time). Just dump the whole thing when done. For smaller vehicles jars would work for this as well.
I save all small bags like bread bags, flyer liners, little bags from shipping etc (it is endless😂) and save them for dog poop bags. I have not purchased a poop bag in two years! I cut old shirts / any absorbent cloth materials to various size "messy cleanup" rags to clean either pet messes, spills etc or for dusting. Then I just throw them out. No paper towel needed! I also use them to clear the dryer lint - same idea as your drier sheets 😊 I also use all kinds of packaging boxes, jars, cereal boxes etc for organizing small items such as underwear in our drawers. Pens in a soup can, endless uses! Free organizing containers. Thank you for the great tips! This really inspired me to think even more about reusing what we already have ❤
It's so much cheaper than spending money foolishly. I also use mismatched old gloves and a bread bag in p/u dog poop. Old clothes that have too many holes, I use to dust, wipe floors, wipe up spills, and always pitch it in trash, at times I clean my sink, toilet with bleach, white rags are good for that.
I had a lovely Polish Pottery butter dish-then the lid got broken into too many pieces to glue back together. I still have the bottom and use it for a soap dish in the bathroom. Looks nice in its new capacity.
I was looking for a way to re-use my coffee grounds. My mother used her used tea bags to fertilizer her house plants, and I wondered if used coffee grounds could be used for plants as well, and yes, they can!! So now I have a tin of "used" coffee grounds that I put in my houseplants each time I water them!
I rip dryer sheets in thirds ... It still works great. I started ripping them in half, but then experimented a little and realized 1/3 works just as well. I use spent ones to pick up dust and debris off the tile floor in the laundry room.
I use 3 wool balls in my dryer and never use dryer sheets Just think about it! dryer sheets keep mice away. Oh my gosh the chemicals cannot be good to breathe.
I am a gardener and use all types of containers for plant starts (yogurt, milk, sourcream)etc. I cut milk cartons in half and use them for multiple seeds such as tomatoes. I also cut some of the tops of the containers with handles and refill them with water, compost tea etc. Gardeners reuse a LOT of stuff, and it is in our nature to keep it out in our garden for reuse. Love your videos!
I love these household hints. Some of them have been around for years (I'm 79 so I've collected quite a few hints in my time!) One thing I learned is that if you use a dryer sheet to clean your lint screen, the substance from the sheet can eventually clog up the screening. Going through regularly and wiping out your dryer and lint trap with a very mild soap and water (very mild, use only a drop Dawn to a quart of water) will stop that problem.
You can also use the toilet paper rolls to corral those cords! Write the name on the roll, fold up the cords and tuck inside roll. It also makes so you can stack them vertically in a box.
I used to have a big collection of Christmas ornaments. I started collecting them as a teen-ager, then inherited some of my grandmothers, then my dad's when he passed away. Through the years I continued collecting them and receiving them as gifts. Many of these ornaments were handmade or purchased without a box. I saved the wrapping paper from Christmas day and when I put these ornaments away I gently wrapped them in used Christmas paper. When the next Christmas rolled around it was festive to see the wrapping paper. Some of the gift tags remained on the paper and I just left them there too.
As a huge tech nerd I’d suggest you each get an Anker 3 in one cable. It can be anywhere from 3-5 feet. It comes with lightning, usb-c, and micro adapter. You can also get an Anker Gaan Charger of 100 W with 2/3 ports. That’s enough to fully charge a MacBook. Micro and lightning will also soon be obsolete for new tech so making sure you have a few USB-C to C cables are handy. Magtame is also a brand that has magnetic cables that don’t get tangled. I know this video is about using household items, but sometimes spending a little extra money in the long run will be extremely helpful..
One more use for odd socks... put plastic glove on your hand, then sock, use to stain or paint small projects. Turn both inside out when done and throw away. Easy peasy. 😂
One of the best uses I've found for used dryer fabric softener sheets is as scrubbing cloths for cleaning the soap scum in your tub/shower. The texture of the sheet removes the soap residue easily!
Hard eye glass cases are excellent when used as containers for a mini First Aid Kit, Sewing Kit, Makeup Kit, Phone Cord Organiser, or even a mini Art Kit when travelling.
Yes, because those "perfumes" in fabric softeners are really bad news, hormone messing chemicals.Vinegar, or citric acid power and water and a bit of lavendar or whichever you like essential oil drops will do a much better job..
Use correction fluid to mark the plugs on kids's toys .The bright white against the black is perfect and of course mark the back of jigsaws pieces to prevent them gettin mixed up with each other .
Decades ago when our kids were small, I decided I was tired of wasting money on wrapping paper, so I started to make gift bags out of fabric that I had on hand, or Christmas prints that I bought in January when they went on sale. We still use wrapping paper when giving gifts that go outside the family, but we've been using some of the same fabric bags year after year for more than 30 years. We also have a relative who has dreadfully artritic hands, and wrapping gifts was painful for her, so I made lots of bags for her to use --- all she has to do is pop the gift in the bag and tie it closed with a piece of yarn. She has used them for years.
I have been making box bottomed drawstring bags for Christmas gift giving. I started making them when I read that wrapping paper is not recyclable. They save a lot of time you would normally spend wrapping. I enjoy the creativity of fashioning the gift bags from things like graduation gowns, an old prom dress and fabric samples. They are embellished with buttons and pieces of ribbon and lace. For packages too large for the gift bags I buy scarves at thrift stores and use the furoshiki method of wrapping.
The bread isn’t only for overcooked cookies, but can also soften up store bought cookies that you would like to be softer. We always put a crust on top of our cookies just to keep them fresher.
Yes your tree grown from an apple seed will fruit in about 3 to 5 years from sowing Jennifer. They do for us here in Ireland. The only thing is we didnt label the first ones so don't know what variety they are. Some are lovely but others are not great so if we dislike a variety we leave the apples for the wildlife and enjoy the ones we do like. ❤
Apple varieties have been genetically crossed for various reasons: heartiness, taste, etc. therefore, when you plant the seeds from the hybrid apples, you may end up with a tree genetically made up from one of the apples that was crossed early when they were “breeding” it. It may not taste good.
@@Joyce-lq6gm Referencing the comment from @veemcg3682 above, the apples may not taste good to you, but birds and other wildlife will love the blossoms and the fruit, not to mention you're helping to clean the air!
This might spund silly, but here goes: thos sock things with rubbery treads on them you get in the hospital make great faucet scrubbers. Add cleaner, scrub the faucet and sink. Fast, no effort, and they dry quickly and reusable.
I use wrapping paper above my cabinets in the kitchen. You cannot see it and it makes it easier to clean above the cabinets when you just remove and replace 😮
Great ideas! I like to reuse cereal box liners as freezer bags. I like them especially for meat as they are thicker than the typical freezer bags. I fill them in flat layers and then use cheap masking tape to seal them up. I can use a marker to ID and date the masking tape just like the expensive freezer tape.
Our dryer broke down. We decided to see how long we could go without a dryer. That was 15 years ago. I wouldn’t have a dryer now if someone gave it to me.
I used a garment bag with pockets to store the wrapping paper, tape, ribbons, etc. Then you hang in the closet. Love the idea of the toilet paper rolls to hold the paper in place in lieu of tape! Also, used 4 weekly pill boxes from the dollar tree for my earrings. Cut the tops to the days of the week off and 4 fit perfectly in my vanity drawer.
One of the best hints that I have enjoyed for years concerns soap pads (SOS pads). Cut the pad in quarters and wet the item to be cleaned, not the steel wool. Works great. Also, I use toilet paper rolls to keep that annoying crease of hanging clothes. Exactly same as wrapping paper hack. Cut. Put on hanger and tape closed. No creases!
You can plant the large avocado seeds. They make a beautiful plant. Unless you are in a climate where avocados can be grown, the plant will never bear fruit but it will grow into a nice houseplant.
Love your tips❤, you may already know this but I’ll share it just in case, when cutting carrots or onions I save the ends a the skins of these vegetables and put them in a ziplock and stash in freezer to cook in a stock when I have enough them , this has helped me save on buying stock or broth.
You can also put the root ends in a little bit of water and they will sprout. I use the carrot tops in stir fries and pesto, and the green onion tops are used in everything, lol. You can also do the same with celery. Once they have roots, you can plant them in soil.
Did you know that you can put a piece of bread into a bag of sugar that has hardened,, brown sugar or any box of sugar that has hardened ,, seal it up and the next morning it will be soft and beautifully fluffy❤
I always think that the intended use of household items as merely a suggestion! I reuse and repurpose most things so I usually only have one small bag of trash for pickup weekly. And, even then, I have to pickup trash along my roadway to get enough to fill the bag! 😊
Great tips, thank you… Speaking of dryer sheets, about five years ago I stopped using my dryer and I’m not kidding, our clothes last so much longer it has amazed me. I might fluff a blanket up but that’s it.
And your dryer will last longer too! Dryer sheets deposit waxy gunk inside in the dryer parts that causes them to wear out faster. I quite using them years ago about the same time I started making my own laundry powders. So much easier and cheaper!
Same. I rarely use it and the colors and durability of my clothes last a lot longer ! I hang everything outside in nice weather and hang inside in the winter. They smell great hung outside
I would miss the nice soft towels. Also, it works great if you have the room but I definitely have no free space to hang clothes. Different strokes for different folks!
Jennifer I was watching your site and you mentioned reusing dryer sheets. Well by accident I found that reusing a dryer sheet to clean your tub. Spray your cleaner and use the used dryer sheet to wipe it off. I works great. I love your ideas.
I cut sponges in half. I re-use frozen fruit bags with the resealable zip tops again by rinsing, drying upside down & then freezing stuff in the bag again as they're good quality. Those mesh onion bags are good for a scrubbing for outside items like plastic chairs, etc.
I cut in half, too! Once a sponge is not as effective for dishes, I sanitize and clip a corner so everyone knows that sponge is for counters or other cleaning.
I cut the tops off of worn socks and use : to cover a cooking grease burn on my wrist, or a cut on my palm, by creating a fingerless mitt. I have made “new” cuffs on jackets or reinforced the cuff of an old sweater by understitching a sock. It’s no visible, it’s underneath but gives strength to worn cuffs. I put them around extension cord bundles, and the long cord on electrical items like the hot glue gun and hairdryer. They make cute beanies for dolls, or crafting projects. I use them around canning jars for protection against breaking.
I saw on utube that tennis bands are gre a t for catching water when washing your face. I now don't have to buy Any!!!! TYSM!!! I'm just gonna get one of the jabazillion of socks I have that don't have a cousin and use it as a tennis sweat band when I wash my face!!!!!
Put a slice of fresh bread in the container of brown sugar when the sugar has turned rock hard. It will soften in three or four days, usually a slight shade darker.
Snap-it bracelets work GREAT to keep wrapping paper together. For dog waste bags, reuse bread bags and whatever else you have. Tortilla bags are the best because they have a zipper.
Even though our dryer hose was not kinked at all, it was about 3 foot long. When we repainted our laundry room, we upgraded our vent and the hose so it now goes more directly out the vent. This has made a huge difference in the time it takes to dryer clothes. Only takes about half as long. I'm sure this saves money on my electric bill, and saves me time too.
If you place some pins, needles and a sewing machine bobbin (wound with sewing thread), into an empty Dental Floss container, you'll have great to little travel sewing kit. Plus, you can use the cutter on the floss container to cut the thread.
I bought a like maker to make labels for our chargers. We have loads; not just phone ones 😊 Also when I take my hoop earrings off at night, I loop one through the other so they stay together.
Instead of linen sheets use paper coffee filter , put some vinegar on and a couple of lavender essential oil . My clothes is static free , and I love it. Thanks for your great video
Thats soo much healthier then the unhealthy dryer sheets! I bought wool balls & add vinegar & oils to them before placing them in the dryer. (Dryer sheets are a big No No in my house.)
Great helpful tips, thank you. By the way, the dish you use for your earrings is a valuable piece. It is a Cranberry opalescent hobnail dish made by Fenton. They are not super valuable, but collectible.
Thank you so much! Yes, I love the dish so much. I have the lid, too. It came from my husband's grandmother, who has passed, so it has so much value in its sentiment.
Love this! Our nut job cat hopped into recycling and pulled out one of those plastic tables they put on pizzas. (To protect the cheese. ) We have so many toys. But. No. Even our old, burly cat plays with them. He hasn't played with anything for ages. The younger one throws it under the sofa and the old guy can't fit. He howls. She torments. I think they're married. Anyway. They've been a favorite for over a month. Try tossing one across the room. Lol
Cats, man! 🤣 Neither of mine are at all interested in toys - but hair ties will be swiped on a regular basis! My partner has very thick hair and has a bunch of pretty chunky elastics in an array of bright colours. One of our cats in particular will thieve any left lying around and bat them all over the house, bouncing them off walls as she goes! We eventually start running low and have to go looking under the couches, fridge, etc, to reclaim them 😆
I clicked onto your video, just to see if you had something different than what we do. As far as cell phone cords, we charge our phones by our chairs so phone cords & charges stay there. Been repurposing grocery bags for small trash can bags for years As far as wrapping paper on rolls, wrinkled or flattened paper, that’s charm🙂, we stopped using wrapping paper years age, went to gift bags, to each their own. Stopped using dryer sheets years ago also, as far as cleaning lint filter, use the lint from previous load to remove the lint. Been using empty Kleenex for grocery bags for years now. Before my wife’s recent passing, she done crafts with lot of repurposed items. 👍👍your video. Keep’m coming 🙂🙂
I don't use buttons to keep earrings together. I place the backing on one earring the slip the other earring's shank through one of the little loops on the first earring's backer then put on the last backer. This works with all earrings with backers. For hoops that open and lock, simply close one hoop, hook the 2nd one through the 1st one and lock the hoop.
Empty oatmeal containers are great for corralling headbands and scrunchies. A little paint or wallpaper to make the outside pretty and just put them around the outside. And, if you properly clean the inside it can be used for hair clips and ribbons. Cheap and just the right size!
That's paste ... loved by tats and roachesand also goes mouldy . It's great for temporary craft projects with kids .... you could help them spread a thin layer on waste cardboard , after adding food colours . Make designs with fingers or objects like a scraper .😊😊 @@CarnabooClarke
Many years ago I made a cross-stitch picture for my dad. Along with some flowered were these words”Who plants a seed beneat the sod and waits to see believes in God” Thank you for a great video.
A piece of bread will make brown sugar soft again. I use toilet paper rolls to collect lint from the dryer. These make good fire starters for the fireplace or camp fire. Also lint can be used on the bottom of planters and pots of plants to keep the soil inside and not come out through the drain holes when watering. If you have sweet potatoes that start to sprout close to planting time in the spring you just snap off the sprouts and put in a jar of water to root them. Plant them in the garden to produce sweet potatoes. I use plastic grocery bags to collect the dirty litter in the cat box. I purchased spout lids for wide mouth mason jars. These are perfect for storing rice and other pantry items. I love Bath and Body Works 3 wick candles. When the wax is gone I remove the labels and wash the jars out. They make perfect containers for cotton balls, Q-tips, bath salts, and all kinds of craft items.
Dryer sheets are good for removing pet hair. I put the clothes item in the dryer on cool with a dryer sheet for a few minutes before washing. Removes hair.
My tip for pierced earings is, if they have the metal back with the curled up ends, put one earing through the curled up circle on the back of the other. Put the backs on both earrings. When you find one, you have found both.
I use dryer sheets in my craft room - I do cardmaking using intricate dies and sometimes those dies have a hard time releasing the bits of paper so I put the dryer sheet between the card stock and die cutting plate (with the die piece on top of the paper) it works like magic the paper comes out of the dies smoothly and easily.
Ages ago I bought a bag saver from ikea. It was cheap… $5-$7 maybe. It’s on the wall in my pantry and works great. I try and keep things up and off counters and tables.
I re-use foaming soap pumps for hand soap and dish soap. Mictowave dinner plastic containers for snacks, and make pancakes from stale bread which are delicious!
I have 2 ideas. One-use the heal of the bread to soften brown sugar. Two- was and reuse store bought juice bottles as pitchers. Some have handles and the take up less room in your refrigerator.
I air dry my bread ends, then grind them in my food processor to make breadcrumbs. I remember my Italian grandma drying the ends of Italian bread in her bread drawer (remember those?) and then hand grating them for breadcrumbs.
I utilize used dryer sheets on my swifter dry mop to pick up dog fur. Works great! I also use empty Clorox wipe containers to store plastic bags from the store
I keep empty pill bottles and use them to store nails, small craft items ect. Instead of buying poop bags I reuse the the grocery store bags, produce bags, and bread bags when I take my dog on a walk or clean the litter box.
I use the empty clear egg cartons (18 count) from Costco for my small jewelry like rings, earrings, chains, to keep them separate and within easy reach in the bathroom drawer. Its a great organizer and cost me nothing extra.
Any candy holders or small cookie might work too. I use the larger holders like Oreos to hold thread spools and other sewing notions and stack in drawers or plastic type totes. Or shoe boxes. Labeled.
Mind blown on the first few tricks! I used a tissue box for receipts when trying to figure out where I was spending $ in a month. The next tissue box will be for bags in the trunk of my car in case one of my dogs have to go when we aren't home. Charley gets excited going to the groomer, etc.
Love the toilet paper roll to hold wrapping paper idea! We have been brainwashed into buying all kinds of cute gadgets to solve issues like this - just leads to money wasted and more stuff to clutter our homes. I miss days when we used recycled materials to make decorations or for "toys" for kids to play with.
Yes!!!! I remember my mom made me a little baby crib out of one of those plastic tomato packages. She weaved a ribbon through the plastic. I kept that bed for my daughter who played with it 30 years later!!
Wrapping paper: I wrap a piece of tape loosely around the end of the plastic sleeve that it comes in. I open that end. I roll it up when done and put it back in the plastic sleeve.
I love tip, tricks, and hacks. This video was informative and inspiring. I hate throwing away things that I feel can be reused. My tip for large bread bag tags is using them to scrub burnt food on stove top. Works for me to loosen the food dropped by burner then wipe away.😊
I save bread bags and found a great use for them last night. I popped a bunch of popcorn to take to my mom’s house for the football game. I put the popcorn in the bread bag. It was a perfect bag for it! My son said , “Wow mom. You would easily pay $12 for something like that at a carnival.”
Around March, April I start my flower and vegetable seeds indoors (first they're in peat pots then they are transplanted into 3 or 4 inch pots). I use bread bag plastic clips to identify the potted plant, marking down broccoli or cabbage, etc.. I also re-use old toothbrushes as cleaning brushes for small spaces, like the holes in your bathroom sink, or the joints where the faucet meets the ceramic. Another useful brush would be an old mascara brush (cleaned of course)- it's small enough to get to places you have a hard time like the window tract that sliding windows are on. North America is about the only continent where we all think we need dryers. I always hang my clothes, so I place an old shower rod in the door jam somewhere and hang my clothes off of that. It would make a lot of sense for all of us to have longer stronger rods outside, so we can hose down and wash our carpets and let them air dry off of these!
I’m in the USA, and where I live, we all have outdoor clothes lines. I rarely use my dryer. Dryers destroy clothes and don’t last as long. And cost wise it’s almost a $1 a load in electricity to use the dryer 😮
I would love to dry my clothes outside, but my HOA won't allow it. (Don't get me started on how much I hate those petty weasels.) If you can see it over the fence, it isn't allowed, so a clothesline would be too low.
I hope I never have one of those. In Ontario, winter is not suitable to hang clothes outside. I have a line that runs the length of a back room. I heat with wood, and my clothes that are hung inside are dry in no time. So clothes are on a hanger and towels/sheets are on my inside line.@@cariwaldick4898
@@cariwaldick4898 You can use a pole over the top of your shower and hang things on plastic hangers. They also make racks you can use in a tub (if you have one).
@@mgd6087 Yeah, but the reason I really want to dry clothes outside, is so they get that sun-kissed freshness. Drying in my humid bathroom isn't going to do that. It's also the difference between a few hours in the sun, and 24 hours in the bathroom.
I recently bought shampoo for my husband that was causing itching on his scalp, so instead of throwing it away, I used it as a toilet bowl cleaner. Worked beautifully 😊
Put cleanser with it even better results
Kind of expensive cleaner.....maybe someone else could use it, not be allergic to it
@@angiehier Unfortunately, I couldn’t use it either😉! Thankfully it wasn’t that expensive so I didn’t feel bad about using it to clean the toilet😂.
I’ve also used shampoo that I couldn’t use for my hair, in my bathroom sink soap bottles , soap is soap and it smells good!
@@angiehier No, alot of shampoos are filled with toxic chemicals...She was right to use as cleaner!
I use dryer balls for my clothes. They decrease drying time and nothing bunches up. The best part no chemicals! Yay 😁
I make fire starters for our campfires. I stuff the toilet paper roll with dryer lint. Then I run a line of petroleum jelly along the side of the roll. It starts fires very fast. A friend marveled this summer at how fast I could start our camp fires. I owe it all to the roll!
Wow! Great tip for using the empty tp roll 🤗
We do something similar. The toilet paper (bought bulk)comes wrapped in a sheet of paper, I save that, stick dryer lint in it, and stuff into empty roll, with edges sticking out.quick start fire in the morning.
I use old or left over candle wax in my starters. Also starts quickly!
Save rubber bands that you get on produce, etc and reuse them.
My mom used to do that to grease baking sheets, but now we use baking paper.
My mother did this post WWII so that has been around a long time.
I butter my skillet to fry eggs with the tiny scraps left on the paper. May take 3 or 4 but hey.....
Run aluminum foil through your shredder and the blades will stay sharp.
that's a good idea with the shredder
Then would it be good for a disposal!?

I use bread ends to line the bottom of a baking pan when I make meatloaf. The bread absorbs the grease and makes it easy to remove the finished meatloaf from the pan .. Cleanup is easier too
Genius?
You can also make bread crumbs
great idea...actually the heel is my favorite part of the bread! I don't care for it in a sandwich but I love it on its own or toasted.
I line a broiler pan with aluminum foil then place meatloaf on a cake rack. Grease drips off while baking and easy cleanup.
Such a great idea!! Thank you for sharing it! I love meatloaf but never fond of cleaning that pan afterwards! You are brilliant dear 💯
My brother and I are firm believers in reusing items. I nail hardener on my eye glasses to keep the screws from coming loose or falling out, it works for me.
Never thought of that.
Good idea! Since I buy mine at the drugstore, the plastic usually gives out before the screws!
Oh my goodness, the buttons as earring organizers!
🤗
I love it when people, like you come up with another way to use everyday items instead of throwing them in the trash! Thanks for sharing 😊
I use clothes pins (less than $1.50 for 50), instead of chip clips (more than $1 each depending on the size)
Same here! Such a great use and super inexpensive 🤗
I like to doll the clothespins up by adding an old school fabric yo-yo…make a set with holiday fabric and give as gifts..friends enjoy homemade items you make with love❤
Me too and I also use binder clips.
And, binder clips!
I use clothes pegs too as chip clips - I had my granddaughter paint them all for me as a craft project - so much fun!
I use empty prescription bottles for organizing different types of safety pins and also as a sharps container for ruined pins and needles. It keeps the trash collectors safe!
That's very thoughtful of you!🙏❤😊
Love your channel 1st. Time Here, comments below are great😂🎉
My kids used dryer sheets at church camp to keep mosquitos at bay in their cabins. Stick them around the bunk beds and it deters them. 😊
I absolutely live this story ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Jennifer, yes your daughter's apple tree will be fruitful in 2 more years! But depending on the type, it needs a pollinator 🍎 apple friend. 🍎 🍏 you can Google which one if she remembers. So helpful, thank 😊 you! You gained a new sub
Buy a tiny sweet potato along with the ones you're intending to cook . Plant the tiny one for an attractive trailing plant ....

Like 3 inches a day if you take care of it imagine taking a section off the top for soneone they nust have to go home n put it in soul, while YOUR bamboo plant is already growing it back plus more!
How do you prevent the paper from sliding out?
@@jeandiehl5074 when you let go of the roll it unwinds itself naturally for a snug fit inside the roll and stays put. When it is on the outside of the roll, you have to put something on it to keep it rolled up.
Omg, this is genius.
You could cut a small strip or square to stick on the outside of the roll to make it easier to find the one you want, too.
I gotta do this!
That's genius! Thank you.
When I was an elementary school teacher, we used the bread bag tabs to fix flip-flop straps that pulled through the bottom. Just poke the strap back through and put them on the bottom and wrap it around the strap
The apple tree is better if you grow them in pairs they need each other for the pollination.
That depends on what kind of apple tree. It takes 2, but not the same.
I would save old socks for my daughter. She and her friends would spend hours making clothes for Barbie. I would give her puff paint and ribbons to help decorate the Barbie outfits
We no longer care if the socks match if they are basically the same color and we have decided that socks without holes in the heel are overrated
Lost a sock? Save the other, put it over your hand use it to dust off your furniture..
I not only use the tissue box for plastic bags but also keep one in our cars for a small trash bin.
Andrea, that's a great idea!
I also use them to clear the dryer lint - same idea as your drier sheets 😊
I also use all kinds of packaging boxes, jars, cereal boxes etc for organizing small items such as underwear in our drawers. Pens in a soup can, endless uses! Free organizing containers.
Thank you for the great tips! This really inspired me to think even more about reusing what we already have ❤
These are wonderful! Thank you for sharing them 🤗

I think the coffee grounds on outdoor in ground plants discourage and may even kill slugs. ???
For sure, and they make white hydrangeas dark blue or purple
@@bjtinker4499yes I remember this from my grandmother! Put around your garden.
I rip dryer sheets in thirds ... It still works great. I started ripping them in half, but then experimented a little and realized 1/3 works just as well. I use spent ones to pick up dust and debris off the tile floor in the laundry room.
Katherine, thanks for sharing this! I will start cutting them in thirds 🤗
I cut mine in half. I also use the spent dryer sheet to clean my dryer lint trap. Works like a charm.
Stick them in the car vents as air freshener
I use 3 wool balls in my dryer and never use dryer sheets Just think about it! dryer sheets keep mice away. Oh my gosh the chemicals cannot be good to breathe.
I turned the netting that dollar store novelties (e.g., erasers) into a soap-saver loofah. I tied it closed with a bread bag twist-tie.

If you lose you bread tag, hold the top of the bread bag, give it a few spins, then fold the open end back over the bread
Great tip!
I love these household hints. Some of them have been around for years (I'm 79 so I've collected quite a few hints in my time!)
One thing I learned is that if you use a dryer sheet to clean your lint screen, the substance from the sheet can eventually clog up the screening.
Yes, I love this idea!!
Yes! I've been using my rolls like that. I even wrapped them in vinyl from Dollar Tree so they look nice.
I use them to corral cords behind appliances on the countertop...
You can also use them to keep drapes evenly spaced between grommets. And no one sees them
Also can be used to corral your reused Ziploc bags in your kitchen drawers. Can even write in what size of Ziploc is in it.
As Im reading everyone's comments, it's great to find folks that I have so much in common with, also learning more.
❤
I used to have a big collection of Christmas ornaments. I started collecting them as a teen-ager, then inherited some of my grandmothers, then my dad's when he passed away. Through the years I continued collecting them and receiving them as gifts. Many of these ornaments were handmade or purchased without a box. I saved the wrapping paper from Christmas day and when I put these ornaments away I gently wrapped them in used Christmas paper. When the next Christmas rolled around it was festive to see the wrapping paper. Some of the gift tags remained on the paper and I just left them there too.
That sounds like a beautiful collection 🤗
Hair conditioner makes a great shaving cream. Men’s shavers are cheaper than women’s and my daughter and I think they shave better.
The ‘heel’ of the loaf is my favorite piece to toast!
Planting apple seeds, what a great way to show your daughter the magic of nature.
She is very happy with her tree 🤗
Apple seeds do not produce the same kind of apples. Apples are grafted.
Easy peasy. 😂
And, use them for cleaning and throw them away unless you want to wash them. ❤
I use odd sport socks as umbrella sleeve as I always seem to lose the original. Also they fit better.
Dryer sheets can be used to rub over your hair to diminish static electricity, my stylist gave me that tip.
One of the best uses I've found for used dryer fabric softener sheets is as scrubbing cloths for cleaning the soap scum in your tub/shower. The texture of the sheet removes the soap residue easily!
Also works to clean your iron
They're great for getting bird poo and bug tar off of car windows too! 🎉
I like them to remove nail polish.
Love bugs off car paint in Florida during season. Water, wet sheets,no other $$solution needed
Used dryer sheets can also be used as interfacing in small sewing projects.
Hard eye glass cases are excellent when used as containers for a mini First Aid Kit, Sewing Kit, Makeup Kit, Phone Cord Organiser, or even a mini Art Kit when travelling.
Great tip!
I am sensitive to the perfumes in dryer sheets. I now use wool dryer balls.
I just use white vinegar instead of fabric softner.. better n brighter on clothes. Smells fresher and does not smell like vinegar. Cheaper and better.
Yes, because those "perfumes" in fabric softeners are really bad news, hormone messing chemicals.Vinegar, or citric acid power and water and a bit of lavendar or whichever you like essential oil drops will do a much better job..
We use dead tennis balls. Get them free around public courts. Run thru wash, throw in dryer, no need for softener or fancy $_ balls.
How much do you use per load?
This is a wonderful tradition! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Great saving idea
Me too.
Lovely Idea!!!
I Wish I Knew How To Sew!!! I Have A Sewing Machine...I've Never Used And Intimates Me.

The bread isn’t only for overcooked cookies, but can also soften up store bought cookies that you would like to be softer. We always put a crust on top of our cookies just to keep them fresher.
SO HAPPY! I need to mail Christmas Cookies & they are getting hard. You saved me!!😊😊😊!😊
Also brown sugar.
Interesting. I always heard putting a pc of bread into freshly baked cookies would help them stay crispy as the bread absorbs the moisture.
Apples do not breed true so it's very likely your eventual tree will near very different apples from the one the seeds came from
Apple varieties have been genetically crossed for various reasons: heartiness, taste, etc. therefore, when you plant the seeds from the hybrid apples, you may end up with a tree genetically made up from one of the apples that was crossed early when they were “breeding” it.
Thanks! I have several
I use wrapping paper above my cabinets in the kitchen. You cannot see it and it makes it easier to clean above the cabinets when you just remove and replace 😮
Wow! Help with the infernal blanket of dust! Thanks !
In drawers that don't get wet, too
Great ideas! I like to reuse cereal box liners as freezer bags. I like them especially for meat as they are thicker than the typical freezer bags. I fill them in flat layers and then use cheap masking tape to seal them up. I can use a marker to ID and date the masking tape just like the expensive freezer tape.
You can just get stasher bags they’re durable n last a lifetime
I use clothes pins to seal..after folding tightly
What a great idea! I can't wait to try it
Good tips
The cereal bags are good to use when pounding meat or chicken with Mallett to tenderize. Sturdy stands up to Mallett doesn't fall apart
Ice cube trays hold my earrings!
Great.
Bread is expensive. I eat the heels.😂😋 They are my favorite part, especially from homemade bread.
I love them on homemade bread! Especially dipped into olive oil and balsamic... sooo good 🤗
I keep a plastic lid as coaster on my nightstand. When liquid gets spilled there's a wall to keep it in. Who knows where the bottom is.
Me too! 😅
Planting seeds from fruit usually grows fruit. Citrus makes a beautiful house plant (older ones bloom & smell wonderful).
Paper towel rolls are also great for the wrapping paper.
Buy the wool dryer balls . You can add a little scented oil to them. Clothes dry faster and softer .
I stop using them about 7 years ago, we use the drying wool balls instead of drying sheets and nobody misses it .
We cut sponges in half, too! They're much easier to use.
I use onion mesh bags over the holes in my planters to prevent soil from leaking out.
I cut in half, too! Once a sponge is not as effective for dishes, I sanitize and clip a corner so everyone knows that sponge is for counters or other cleaning.
I use my onion, orange nets for washing delicate stuff in the washing machine.
Thank you for the tip about sharpening scissors with aluminum foil. We also save plastic bags in empty tissue boxes!
Wonderful!
Tina, these are such creative ideas!
I also use old bread bags and cereal bags for disposing off used cat litter or dog poo bags instead of buying them
Put a slice of fresh bread in the container of brown sugar when the sugar has turned rock hard. It will soften in three or four days, usually a slight shade darker.
A marshmallow works too
An apple also works well for brown sugar, a small apple to save space for the sugar. 😊
Snap-it bracelets work GREAT to keep wrapping paper together. For dog waste bags, reuse bread bags and whatever else you have. Tortilla bags are the best because they have a zipper.
I love the snap-it bracelet idea. Am headed to DT to get some before I forget. Thanks for sharing.
I'll check mine out. What a good tip. Thank you.
I put a dry towel in the dryer and it cut back the drying time!
Safer, too, to not have lint buildup up in the hose
If you place some pins, needles and a sewing machine bobbin (wound with sewing thread), into an empty Dental Floss container, you'll have great to little travel sewing kit. Plus, you can use the cutter on the floss container to cut the thread.
That's a great idea!
Dryer sheets? That is a great non-allergenic alternative to scented dryer sheets.
Thats soo much healthier then the unhealthy dryer sheets!
I bought wool balls & add vinegar & oils to them before placing them in the dryer. (Dryer sheets are a big No No in my house.)
@@lidip8700I couldn’t agree with you more! Those things are toxic, and the chemicals stay in the clothing and get absorbed by the skin.

Try tossing one across the room. Lol

I will try it for my guys next pizza delivery!!
Cats, man! 🤣
Neither of mine are at all interested in toys - but hair ties will be swiped on a regular basis!
My partner has very thick hair and has a bunch of pretty chunky elastics in an array of bright colours. One of our cats in particular will thieve any left lying around and bat them all over the house, bouncing them off walls as she goes!
We eventually start running low and have to go looking under the couches, fridge, etc, to reclaim them 😆
Aww....too funny and so cute...lol
Love your stories about cats. Thanks for this.
I use the dryer sheets at the bottom of my flower pots to keep the soil in but still allows good drainage.
Used dryer sheets are good for that. The spent ones can also be used to polish the chrome in your kitchen and bathroom. It makes them super shine! 😄
I love the earring hack. 👍
That button/earring hack is brilliant! How have I never heard of this? Love your tricks and tips! 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I use a Pringles can😂A bit of contact paper and it matches my room 😂

For the dryer sheets, I use them for extra hard scrubbing... They do an amazing job as scrubbing away soap scum in the shower
I use dryer sheets on the bottom of my plant pots to keep the soil from escaping when I water.
Use coffee filters...fewer chemicals in the environment
Coffee filters are GREAT for that...with no chemicals!

That is a beautiful saying ❤️
When you pick up the poop or other dirt things, you put your hand inside and after you pick up whatever, you pull the bag over your hand 😻
Barb, great ideas! Thank you for sharing ❤️
My grandsom keeps used dryer lint for several weeks before going in Scout camping trips,
Dryer sheets are good for removing pet hair. I put the clothes item in the dryer on cool with a dryer sheet for a few minutes before washing. Removes hair.
I reuse candle jars to hold things, like makeup brushes, Q-Tips, and cotton balls.
Smart idea!
My tip for pierced earings is, if they have the metal back with the curled up ends, put one earing through the curled up circle on the back of the other. Put the backs on both earrings. When you find one, you have found both.
❤ Same 😊
I use dryer sheets in my craft room - I do cardmaking using intricate dies and sometimes those dies have a hard time releasing the bits of paper so I put the dryer sheet between the card stock and die cutting plate (with the die piece on top of the paper) it works like magic the paper comes out of the dies smoothly and easily.
Used dryer sheets are a great way to wipe off pots and pans and dishes. Great to remove spaghetti sauce residue without ruining your dish cloth!!!
Love the dryer sheet idea!
I use reuse them for dusting!
Also place them in my suitcase for freshness!
Also cloths drawer
They take soap scum off glass shower doors
I utilize used dryer sheets on my swifter dry mop to pick up dog fur. Works great! I also use empty Clorox wipe containers to store plastic bags from the store
Great idea. I also put rubber bands on my phone cords
Great idea!
Yes, I use Ferrer Rocha box.
Any candy holders or small cookie might work too. I use the larger holders like Oreos to hold thread spools and other sewing notions and stack in drawers or plastic type totes. Or shoe boxes. Labeled.
My earrings are in the square sections of a chocolate candy assortment box.
Mind blown on the first few tricks! I used a tissue box for receipts when trying to figure out where I was spending $ in a month. The next tissue box will be for bags in the trunk of my car in case one of my dogs have to go when we aren't home. Charley gets excited going to the groomer, etc.
The tissue box for receipts is a great idea!!!
I am loving this! I foster dogs and have tons of dog paraphernalia in my car, trunk, and house.
I use the magic eraser
Love that idea
For receipts grt idea love it
Years ago, we were gifted a large tin of popcorn. It is perfect for all my wrapping paper. They stand upright and are easy to identify.
I just bought one but mine has a small cutter blade - but that tip is smarter
Wrapping paper: I wrap a piece of tape loosely around the end of the plastic sleeve that it comes in. I open that end. I roll it up when done and put it back in the plastic sleeve.
I use a rubberband for my wrapping paper.
@@molee8863 That is what I have been doing too. Anna In Ohio
I love tip, tricks, and hacks. This video was informative and inspiring. I hate throwing away things that I feel can be reused. My tip for large bread bag tags is using them to scrub burnt food on stove top. Works for me to loosen the food dropped by burner then wipe away.😊
🤗
