First hearing of TIME And A Word (album), was on our mono record player, during the summer in 1970, my friend Melanie, had brought it round to our house. It was school holidays and We listened to it a lot, I thought it was incredible, from start to finish. Also, in June that year, my lovely 87 year old grandma sadly died and I was left some money in her will. I chose to buy a stereo and some albums with the money. In the September I went with my parents to the music shop, to purchase a stereo, , In the back room of the shop was the record department, I picked out a few LPs, Traffic and The Nice amongst them, Time and a Word was there and I so wanted to buy it, but, I was worried about presenting an album on the counter with a nude woman on it.
I've always wondered about that cover in comparison to the other Yes ones (that I've seen). It looks to be pretty daring for that particular time. So you didn't get it then?
Mary Contrary Didn't get it on that day, but I made sure there was enough money left, so I could go back and get it by myself, even then as a 14 year old I was uncomfortable taking it to the sales desk. They said that Time and a word didn't sell as well as they'd hoped, perhaps other people were put off ........ Musically it couldn't be faulted though.

YES gave me the best memory I love remembering. 73, telling my mother, yeah sure down near a river two blocks away, I found this band and said there are words I can see I understand as historical meaning. And she said. "Come here." "Huh." No, just come here and the woman hugged me for dear life saying, "THANK GOD FOR YES" ... and why thanking Ahmet Ertegun for YES was perfect sense. His wife sure was spunky.

I never heard it played this way. These guys could play it on shovel guitar and mountain dulcimer and make it awesome..
