Paul Thompson, the unsung hero of Roxy Music.
The energy he brought was incomparable.

Between Ferry's singing, the inane but clever lyrics, Eno's synth solo and Manzanera's buzzsaw riffage, this forecasts everything from punk to new wave to hair metal to Guided by Voices. Unreal. Also, theoretical bullshit aside, this kicks ass to listen to.

LOL Top of the Pops avoided showing Eno at all when Roxy performed Virginia Plain in 1972. For a few seconds one saw a close up of gloved hand playing a keyboard. I thought this show was going to do the same. For nearlythe first two minutes he is not shown oris in deep shadow. Finally, his synthesizer break begins, and the camera still doesn't show him. Then, we at last do get a glimpse, but most of him is hidden by an amp. THEN, FINALLY, we do get to see him full frontal. Thanks, Mr. Producer man.

It's funny that the "Learn more" implies that this is from 1982 -- this is more like 1973. With all that wonderful early '70s hair!
But it's delightful to see it. RM were so innovative, and so gloriously weird.
